Eryx. She walked out of the room, her hips swaying with her angry strides, as if her cheeks hadn't been pink some minutes ago. I noticed how her eyes had lingered on my body...like they belonged there. I would have given her a full display if she had asked for it. She looked prettier than the first time I had seen her. Her lashes were long and her red hair fell down her shoulders. I had to remind myself multiple times that she had a family. I used up all my self-restraint to resist her charm. The moment I saw her in that tight uniform downstairs with the other maids, I almost lost it. I had wanted to slam my lips on hers and express how much she had hurt me through the kiss. I had wanted her to know how much power she had over me in that moment. She looked so irresistible and tempting. If she were mine, I would have carried her up to my room and locked us both in. No man deserved to see such blinding beauty as hers. A f*cking drug I could not resist. The most tempting sin to ever walk on this earth. She was going to be my very own damnation. But then, she had called that night a mistake. A freaking mistake?!? A night that had been etched in my memories...every single detail as clear as it could ever be. I had a lot of questions for her. What was she doing here? How did she get in? Had she followed me? What had happened to her husband and her kids? No one had ever messed with my head the way she did. Cade rushed into my room without knocking. An act he knew got me very angry. "We found her!!" he panted, looking disheveled. "What do you mean?" I asked, refraining myself from addressing the fact that he had gone against my rules. "The maid that poisoned you that night. She's down in the dungeons." I quickly threw a shirt over my head and raced down the stairs. The truth didn't seem so far away anymore. Everything would finally come to light today, and if it didn't, we would definitely have a lead. I walked into the first doors of the dungeons and saw the pale maid, curled up in a corner. Her clothes looked filthy and her hair looked like a bird's nest. I recognized her — she was the one. "What's your name?" I questioned. Cade stood beside me, arms behind him, ready to act on my command. She looked up at me and started trembling, her bottom lip shaking in fright. I hated people like this. "Trust me, if you do not speak up right now, I would be forced to resort to brutal methods...and I'm sure you wouldn't like that. Now, answer me. Who. Are. You?!?" I bent over to her. "E...Emily, sir," she stammered, her eyes watering up. "Emily. Now tell me who ordered you to drug my drink." She shook her head and started biting her nails. Call it trauma or possession — what I knew was that she was going to spill it all, whether she liked it or not. "They'll kill me...." she wailed pathetically. "Please. They'll kill me." I sighed and stood up, walking around her slowly. "I see you've underestimated me, thinking that you are safer with them than with me. You're scared of the wrong person, Emily," I frowned, watching her eyes grow wide as saucers. "If you think I'll promise you a warm room after you confide in me...then you must be delusional. No one dares drug me and gets away with it," I told her the truth, saving myself from the stress of telling her lies I had no intention of keeping. "So you're also going to kill me?" she asked, proving how inefficient her boss was. Who sent such a lousy and dim-witted person to carry out a job as dangerous as that? They had underestimated me. They all did, and I was going to let them know that was the worst mistake anyone could ever make. I hadn't become the Alpha by cuddling up to my enemies. "Now, that depends on the information you give me. If I find out that you have lied to me, it's off with your head. I do not waste my time with the likes of you." She looked at her hand and the next split second, she ingested some pills and started coughing up blood almost immediately. Suicide. I watched her struggle, her tears and blood mixing together in the most horrifying manner. Cade rushed over to her but it was too late. Her eyes turned a steel white colour, all signs of vitality leaving her limp body. "She's dead," he announced, looking at me. There went our only lead. I walked over to her and opened her hand, taking out the paper that had contained the pill. 'We've got our eyes on you.' The message was for me. A threat. I squeezed the paper in my hand angrily. I was done playing games. The hunt was on. "Dump the body," I commanded Cade, turning back to see a stunned Selena...if that was actually her real name. She covered her mouth in shock and ran out. An accusation had never been clearer. I had never felt such a strong urge to explain myself to someone. I ran after her and grabbed her arm to halt her. "STOP!!" I yelled, turning her to face me. She was avoiding my gaze, probably scared that I would kill her. "Let me go....please," her hot tears fell on my arm. "Please don't kill us too." For the first time, she didn't hide from me. She didn't look like the woman in my room, blushing really hard. She was.....pleading. I immediately released her arm in defeat. A monster. That was probably what I was to her. Selena didn't waste a second before running out of the dungeons. Away from the beast that had marked her years ago. My wolf called out to her, crumbling before her departing figure.
