The casket slowly descended into the earth. Rose held onto Everette’s hand and her other held a tissue. This was the sound of heartbreak. The steady tears flowed down many of the people’s faces. The sniffling reached my ears. Crying quieted down when Liam’s father stood at the top of the casket. This was the sound of hearts breaking. I stood across from Everette and his family. I’d never been to a funeral before and I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was winding down and I was the only one who didn’t seem broken. I was genuinely sad he was dead, but after everything, I didn’t have it in me to miss him. My heart was whole and only hurt for Everette. I would be broken had I lost Zander.
