Chapter 2

I drove my Terrain and Sloan rode with me, we left her car at the school since she didn’t want to drive up there. Plus her car doesn’t have 4-wheel drive and I know it wouldn’t make it up the hill or rocky terrain to get to the cabin. Tommy and Layklin road together as per usual. They also have a 4-wheel drive truck so they didn’t have to worry.  Once we parked, Sloan jumped out and went straight to the backseat grabbing her duffle bag and heading to the front door to wait for me. I on the other hand was looking for the damn cabin key. I got out and grabbed my duffle from the back. I have this feeling like I totally forgot to grab that when I left this morning. I pulled everything out trying to find it but to no avail. "Hey Waves… Are you looking for this by chance?" I heard Sloan say from the porch standing by the door. "What the hell Sloan, how did you find that?" I asked her while shoving everything back into my duffle. "Well it was stuck to the door, with a note from your mom." she says this while holding out the note and key my mom had stuck to the door. I grabbed them from her once I got onto the porch and read the note out load as Layklin and Tommy walked up the steps.

You rushed out of the house this morning because you were late and forgot to grab the cabin key. I noticed it beside the front door when I was heading out to pick up your dad from the airport. I had a feeling you would be franticly looking for it, so I dropped it off on the way to the airport. Have fun guys, don’t forget to lock back up when you guys leave. Stay safe.

"Wow your mom is so nice, mine would have made me go back to the house to get it, while making fun of me for forgetting it."Layklin sighed, she and her mom get along like siblings. I can totally see her mom doing this too. " Well now that we have the key, how about we go in and get settled. Then we can order some pizza, and head down to the lake. Does that sound like a plan?" I asked all of this while unlocking the door and walking inside. No one answered me so I turned around, to see why they didn’t answer and the look on their faces was priceless. "You know if you keep your mouth open like that, you will catch flies." I said this and they all came back to reality. "Sorry love, but OMG!! This place is amazing. Why have we not been here before?" Sloan is being a bit dramatic, with the ooo's and ahhh's coming from her when she touched something or looked into another room. I facepalmed myself. I should've known they would have this reaction, or at least Sloan would. " Well after my mom passed, dad and I just never really wanted to come back here. We would spend the summers here when she was alive. I guess it was just too hard at that time to come out here. Then when we finally decided to come check on everything and start having our summers here again, the place was pretty much destroyed. A really bad storm knocked down a tree that used to be out front right through the middle. They finally finished rebuilding it last year. So this is the first time I have been back since we surveyed it after the storm. We are the first to stay here since the rebuild."

I walked to the couch and placed my bag down. The cabin like I said is 2 stories. When you walk in the front door you have a short hallway and to the right of the door is the stairs to the second floor. Once you leave the foyer you are welcomed with an open plan living room (which is to the left) , dining room (is just a table that separates the living room and kitchen), and kitchen is off to the right. There is a huge fireplace in the living room with the TV above on the mantel on the back wall, two couches and a chase lounge. Hardwood floors throughout, and a patio just off to the left of the living room. Sliding glass floor to ceiling doors separate the living room from the patio and the view is directly in front of the kitchen. So if you were cooking you could still enjoy the scenery from there as well. From the first floor you can see the lake, boat dock and boat house off to the side, through the patio doors. It is really pretty in the winter with the snow covering the ground and the lake frozen over. If you are in the kitchen to the right  there two doors one with a small bathroom and the other is a small bedroom that has bunkbeds, a small tv, small dresser, and small closet. This room was for Kevin and Syler since they are about 14 years old now, but they haven't been down since we finally finished the rebuild. Yes they are twins, forgot to mention that. Also neither of them like heights, I mean they don’t climb stairs or go into elevators at all. Whenever we would go on vacation we would always have to have a room on the ground floor, because they refused to go up the stairs or take an elevator. I don’t know why they are so afraid of heights, but we all have our phobias now don’t we.

"Ok Waves, where are our rooms?" Tommy says while roaming around the living room, just observing everything. "We will all be upstairs, there are 4 rooms up there. One of them is off limits since it is the master and my parents rooms, but we are good to take any of the other three." I said this while picking my bag back up from the couch and heading back to the foyer to climb to stairs. "Wait for us!!" the girls yelled from the patio. I chuckled lightly to myself  while pausing on the second step of the stairs. "Ok let's go up!" Layklin says this while jogging past me and heading up. Sloan and Tommy trailing behind shaking their heads while I just laugh and reach the top last. Once you come up from the stairs if you look to the left and right there are two doors, they are the smaller bedrooms. The room to the right has 2 small beds set up dorm style with a dresser in the middle, and a small closet. The room to the right is has a single bed, a small dresser with a tv, and a small closet. Looking from the stairs you have a large living room or lounge area, that has a pool table to the left and on the wall by it another door that leads to the master bedroom/bathroom. To the middle is the couch and slightly to the right is the foosball table. The wall behind the foosball table has a door to the guest bathroom, and a tv hung in the center of the wall in front of the couch. The right wall has another door where my bedroom and bathroom is located.

"Woah! This is so awesome Waves!! A pool table and foosball. I think I am in heaven." Tommy was running his hands across the pool table while saying this. I chuckled, "Well if you think that is cool look at the TV stand. There should be a PS4 and Xbox One, along with some games too." After I said that Tommy squealed in excitement like a school girl, even doing a little happy dance. Tommy is such a home body, anything that can be done inside is his go to. I really hope he doesn’t stay up here the whole weekend. I want us all to enjoy the lake together and go out on the boat. My dad taught me last year and I have been dying to take them out. I just know they are going to have a blast. "Well  I will be up here getting my game on. If you girls need me for anything you know where to find me." with that said Tommy grab a controller and started playing one of the Call of Duty games. " Hey girls, I will show you your room so you put your things down." I waved Sloan and Layklin over to the door across from mine since it has the bunk beds and I am sure no one wants to room with Tommy. Layklin has told us before his room looks like a tsunami went through it, and that is what he calls clean. The girls followed me to the room and started putting their things away for the weekend. "So Waves, did you still want to do that pizza you mentioned earlier and head down to the lake?" "Yeah Layk that was the plan, unless you girls want to watch Tommy get his butt handed to him by some six year old kids." I said this while pointing at an upset Tommy yelling at the TV, about how he is losing to a kindergartener. We stood against the wall just watching him freak out. He has one of the headsets on so we don’t know what the kid is saying but Tommy is pissed. "OH YEAH!! How about that!!" Tommy jumped up yelling. "I guess he showed him, huh." Sloan said while bursting out laughing. Layklin and I follow suit, laughing at a very annoyed/accomplished Tommy.

After that I left the girls to watch Tommy, while putting my things away in my room. Once I was settled I ran downstairs to get the Pizza menu we had and started calling in the order. Once I finished that, I headed back upstairs to see if the girls wanted to go down to the lake while we wait for the delivery guy. "Hey girls, so you want to head down to the lake? I have the pizza's ordered so they should be here in about 30mins." I said this while heading to get my bathing suit. "Oh yeah of course, it's depressing watching Tommy, get killed over and over again." Layklin said while dogging a pillow being thrown at her from Tommy. "Oh, did you order the veggie pizza? You know I don’t eat meat like that." Sloan yelled after me. "Don't worry Sloan, I made sure to get a veggie pizza just for you. I also got 2 meat lovers for Layk and I and 1 supreme since that is Tommy's favorite." I yelled back from my room. I was putting on my back and white bikini. " YOU'RE THE BEST WAVES!!" Tommy yelled back. "Tommy is right Waves you are the best. Thank you for letting us come up here with you. We should do this again in 2 weeks for your 18th." Laykin was saying this while walking into my room and plopping down on my bed already ready to head down. She had on a pink and black 2 piece. Soon Sloan was coming over to sit next to Layk, just waiting on me as per usual. "What is taking you so long Waves?" I could hear Layklin's annoyance from the closet.  "Sorry Layk, I seemed to have lost the bottoms to my swimsuit. I don’t even know how, I just put them in the closet drawer." I can't believe I am not only clumsy, but apparently my mind is going as well. I am not even 18 yet and here we are. "Ugghh…" I sighed loudly, still rummaging around the closet. "Are you looking for these bottoms?" I spun around looking at Sloan holding them out to me from the closet door. "YES!! Thank you, where did you find them?" I snatched them from her and she started laughing followed by Layklin's laugh and then a loud thud. "Ouch, damn I laughed way too hard, I fell off the bed guys!" I walked out seeing Layk on the floor with some tears in her eyes from laughing. "So Sloan where did you find them?" I said while grabbing a towel, and turned to look at her helping Layk off the floor. "They were laying just under the bed. I am guessing you dropped them when you went to put you things away. Luckily I dropped my phone and noticed them." Sloan said while following me out of the bedroom and heading downstairs to the patio. "Well I think we should just wait on the patio for the pizza. They should be here in a few minutes." Just after I got that out of my mouth, I heard a car pull up. Walking out to the front yard, I was greeted by Kenny. He was the pizza guy when I was a kid and now he owns Crater Pizza in town. He still does deliveries I see.

After a short conversation with Kenny, we took the pizza and headed to the lake. Well after I took Tommy his, I went back out to catch up with the girls. We ate pizza, laid out on the dock and swam a little. I am hoping tomorrow we can take the boat out. "Hey guys, do you want to go out on the boat sometime tomorrow?" I said looking over at Sloan and Layk. They were both laying out Sloan with on her back and Layk was on her stomach. I was sitting in the lounge chair beside them. "OMG, I thought you would never ask. I saw the boat house and remembered you saying your dad taught you how to operate it. I am SOOO excited!!!" Sloan was clapping her hands and slightly bouncing up and down now with her legs crossed. "Awesome, so around 11am we can go out. That is the best time to leave and we should be able to spend the heat of the day out on the lake." I was smiling saying this, watching Sloan all giddy about going out on the boat, had me laughing just a little.  After a while we headed back in as the sun was starting to go down. I went straight to the bathroom to shower and get ready to pass out. Today was a long day. Everyone else was pretty much the same, we were all tired and wanted to rest up for tomorrow's activity. 

"Goodnight guys!" I hollered out while heading downstairs to lock up and then back to my room.

It was around 3am, when I was awoken by my phone going off. "Ughh.. Who the hell calls at this time of night?" I was thinking this while looking at the caller ID. Weird mom is calling, I hope everything is alright. "Umm… hey mom. Is everything alright?" I barely got the sentence out of my mouth and she started screaming on the other end. "MOM, WHAT'S WRONG!" I was now yelling, and definitely not asleep anymore. "WAVERLY, GET OUT OF THE CABIN!!" that was all I heard from her. There was a loud scream and then the line went dead. I sat there staring at my phone, in a daze. What just happened and why would she want us the leave the cabin?
