Too Close

Episode 8: That same night, Xavier arrived at Amara's house furious. "You met Bianca?" Amara blinked in shock. "How did you know?" "Answer me" His voice was sharp enough to cut glass. Amara folded her arms defensively. "She contacted me" "And you went alone?!" "I can make my own decisions" "You have no idea what you're involving yourself in" The argument exploded quickly. "You keep treating me like a child" Amara snapped. "Because you keep doing reckless things" "Then stop hiding things from me" Xavier stared at her breathing hard Then suddenly said quietly "My family ruins people" Amara froze. "What?" "You heard Bianca" The vulnerability in his voice shocked her. For the first time, Xavier looked tired, not arrogant, not mysterious, just exhausted. Amara's anger softened slightly. "Xavier...." "My father has enemies", he continued quietly, "And sometimes, does enemies come after people close to us" Fear slowly crawled into Amara's chest. "So the threats are real?" "yes" "Then why involve me at all?" The question hit him hard because he didn't have a good answer. Finally, he admitted softly, "because I could not stay away from you" The honesty in his voice shattered every defense she had left. Amara looked away quickly before her emotions betrayed her. But Xavier gently touched her chin and turned her face back towards him. "You should hate me" "But I don't" That almost destroyed him. Slowly... carefully... He leaned closer and this time, he kissed her softly at first then deeper. Like both of them had been fighting it for a long, too long. And in that moment Amara forgot every warning.
