Turning away from the alleyway, the luminous orb of Izzy's soul pulsed softly in his grasp.
"W...what did you do to me?" A soft whisper echoed in his mind, the light within the orb trembling. "Where am I?"
Ryusuke glanced down at the glowing sphere. "You are… becoming a part of me, little mortal." He began his walk back towards the distant treeline, the orb illuminating his path.
*"Part of you? I... I don't understand. Maria… James…" *Her awareness stretched, a faint image of the alleyway and his retreating form flickering in his mental perception. "Maria! She's… she's screaming."
Ryusuke remained silent, his focus on reaching the sanctuary of his forest.
"Why… why did you do this?" Her voice held a rising note of panic, the light within the orb intensifying. "I trusted you…"
"Trust is a luxury you mortals cannot afford with beings like me," Ryusuke finally replied, his tone devoid of emotion. "You were… sustenance. Nothing more."
As they entered the shadowed embrace of the forest, Izzy's awareness expanded, a panoramic view of the ancient trees and the path ahead briefly flooding his senses. "That… that castle… where are you taking me?"
"Home," Ryusuke answered simply.
*"Home? But… I have a life. Friends… family…" *Her light dimmed slightly, a wave of despair washing over her ethereal form. "You just… took it all?"
Ryusuke offered no response, his gaze fixed on the looming silhouette of his castle in the distance.
He reached the crumbling archway and made his way through the silent halls, Izzy's luminous form providing an eerie illumination. He finally stood in the throne room.
"What are you going to do with me?" Her voice was barely a whisper now, the light within her fading.
Ryusuke held the orb before him. "I am going to take what is rightfully mine. Your life force will fuel my purpose."
"Your purpose…? What could be worth… this?" Her light flickered again, her awareness beginning to wane.
"Ending a very long… conflict," Ryusuke said, his gaze hardening.
With a deliberate motion, he opened his mouth. Izzy's light pulsed one last time, a silent scream of terror echoing in his mind, before he swallowed her whole. The ethereal orb slid down his throat, and the influx of her energy flooded his being. Her voice, her awareness, faded into the recesses of his ancient soul.
Izzy pov: fading light
Tears welled in my eyes, blurring my vision, as he finished the extraction, my soul now a luminous orb in his grasp. Everything felt cold, empty. The sounds of the alleyway faded, replaced by a growing silence. There was no pain, just a profound sense of loss, of something vital being ripped away. Darkness began to creep in at the edges of my vision, and the last thing I registered was the detached look in his eyes as he said, "Why, getting my dinner, young lady." Then, there was nothing.
Then, there was… something. I was no longer Izzy, not in the way I understood it. My awareness was now a faint spark within a ball of light, held in his hand. Yet, somehow, I could still perceive the world around this light – a distorted, panoramic view of the alleyway and the figure holding me.
He was walking away from my lifeless body. I saw Maria stumble out of the nightclub, her joyful expression replaced by a growing horror as she searched for me.
"Let me go, please! Why are you doing this to me?" My voice was now a silent plea of light within his grasp, yet somehow, I felt a connection, a faint echo of my distress reaching him.
He didn't respond, his focus solely on moving away from the scene. I watched, a helpless passenger, as the flashing lights of emergency vehicles appeared in the distance, growing closer. Maria's piercing scream sliced through the night, a sound that tore at the last vestiges of my former self.
Unperturbed, he continued his stroll, the urban landscape giving way to the dark embrace of the forest. Towering trees loomed around us, their branches like skeletal fingers reaching towards the sky.
Soon, a castle came into view, a dark and imposing structure against the night. As he stepped inside, the heavy oak door groaning behind us, a fresh wave of terror washed over my ethereal form.
"Please, no! Release me! Let me go back!" My light pulsed erratically, a silent scream trapped within his grasp.
"Soon, you won't feel anything," I felt his cold thought brush against my fading awareness. "Soon, you will be neither here nor there."
A sense of dread washed over me as he raised the orb of my soul. I felt a cold, alien hunger emanating from him. Then, darkness. A sensation of being swallowed, of being absorbed into something ancient and vast.
The last flicker of my individual awareness was a sense of fading, of dissolving into a cold, empty void. There was no pain, no understanding, just the cessation of being.
