A fathers concern....

The morning sun cast long shadows across Elena's front yard as Officer Ridger pulled into the driveway. He recognized his son's truck immediately, a sense of relief washing over him. At least Elijah was here. He hoped his son could shed some light on Kira's whereabouts. He stepped out of his patrol car, the familiar weight of his duty belt a comfort in the midst of his growing unease. He'd been a police officer in Shadowcreek for over twenty years, and in that time, he'd seen his share of strange occurrences. But the missing person report filed by Maeve Morgan regarding her daughter, Kira, felt different. It wasn't just the mother's frantic tone; it was a gut feeling that something wasn't right. Elena greeted him at the door, her expression a mixture of surprise and wariness. "Derrek? What brings you here so early?" "Morning, Mom," Derrek replied, his gaze searching hers. "I'm here about Kira Morgan. Her mother filed a missing person report last night. I was hoping Elijah might know where she is." Elena hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Yes, he is here, so is Kira, Derrek.” Derrek's shoulders relaxed slightly. "Thank God. Maeve was worried sick. Can I see her? Just to confirm she's okay?" "Of course," Elena said, stepping aside to let him in. "She's still resting. She had a... a rough night." As Derrek entered the house, he couldn't shake the feeling that Elena wasn't telling him everything. There was a tension in the air, a sense of unease that went beyond a simple missing person case. He found Elijah in the living room, looking equally troubled. "Dad," Elijah acknowledged, rising to meet him. "Son," Derrek said, his eyes scanning his son for any sign of injury or distress. "You know Kira's here?" "Yeah," Elijah confirmed. "She's... she's been through a lot, Dad. More than you know." Derrek frowned. "What do you mean? What's going on, Elijah?" Before Elijah could answer, Elena interjected. "John, perhaps it would be best if you spoke with Kira directly. She can explain everything." Derrek nodded, his mind racing. He trusted Elena, but he couldn't ignore his instincts. Something was definitely amiss. Elena led him to Kira's room, where she lay sleeping peacefully. He watched her for a moment, his heart aching for the young woman he'd known since she was a little girl. She looked pale and fragile, a stark contrast to the vibrant young woman he remembered. "Kira," Elena said softly, gently shaking her awake. "Kira, dear, Derrek is here to see you." Kira stirred, her eyes fluttering open. She looked confused for a moment before recognition dawned on her face. "Officer Ridger?" she croaked, her voice hoarse. "Hey, Kira," Derrek said, offering a reassuring smile. "Your mom filed a missing person report. Just wanted to make sure you were okay." Kira nodded slowly, sitting up with Elena's help. As she moved, the large, feathered wings on her back became clearly visible. "I'm okay, Officer Ridger. Just... tired. I came here last night. I needed a safe place." "Safe place?" Derrek asked, his eyebrows furrowed, his gaze focused on the magnificent wings. Derrek, like his mother and son, was a werewolf, and well-versed in the legends of their kind and others. The sight of the wings, however, confirmed suspicions he'd long harbored about the existence of beings beyond their own. "What happened, Kira?" Kira hesitated, her gaze darting between Elena and Derrek. She wasn't sure how much to reveal, how much he would believe. Elena stepped forward, placing a comforting hand on Kira's shoulder. "Kira, it's okay. You can trust Derrek. He's always cared about you." Taking a deep breath, Kira began to explain, her voice trembling as she recounted the events of the past few days. She spoke of the man from her past, his return, and the dark power that seemed to surround him. She described the dreams, the sleepwalking, and the growing sense of dread that consumed her. As Kira spoke, Derrek listened intently, his expression growing increasingly concerned and confused. He knew Kira to be a level-headed and honest young woman. If she said she was experiencing strange and frightening things, he had no reason to doubt her. He also couldn't dismiss the nagging feeling he'd had since taking the missing person report. There was more to this than met the eye. But the wings… that was something he couldn’t explain. Detective millers Pov: Meanwhile, across town, Detective Miller, a human colleague of Officer Ridger at the Shadow creek Police Department, found himself once again in the sterile environment of the city morgue. The murder cases he was investigating were growing increasingly complex and disturbing. Dr. Alistair, the human medical examiner, was going over the details of the latest victim. The victim, a young man, lay on the cold metal table. His eyes were wide with terror, frozen in his final moment. There were no visible wounds, but his skin was pallid and cold to the touch. Around his neck, however, were deep bruises and abrasions, as if he had been violently slammed against a wall. “The wounds are... unusual, Detective,” Dr. Alistair explained, his voice professional but tinged with a hint of unease. “Massive tissue trauma around the neck, likely from significant blunt force. But beyond that, the body is…completely drained. It’s as if... as if the life force was violently ripped away.” Detective Miller, a seasoned veteran of the Shadow creek Police Department, had seen his fair share of gruesome crime scenes. But these murders... they were different. They spoke of a brutality, a savagery that defied explanation. He couldn’t shake the feeling that he was dealing with something beyond human.
