Chapter 3

Tess's POV: I woke up with a headache and was ready to just call into work. But I needed to go in and get some hours in for this afternoon. I dragged myself out of bed, groggy. I shouldn't have stayed up so late. But I couldn't sleep with how worried I was all night. Connor was onto Raya for something. I didn't know what. But I was sure it had to do with their kind. She was a rogue, casted out for trying to kill Lincoln after he rejected her as his mate. I was no stranger to vampires and werewolves. I've had plenty of altercations with them since my parents lived on the border of two wolf packs and a vampire clan. Connor didn't know that. I wondered if he ever would. I got up and got ready, slowly. I couldn't think very much thanks to the pain in my temples. But I pushed through. After getting out of the shower and brushing my teeth I closed the cabinet door just to jump out of my skin. I looked back at Raya, who was standing right behind me. "Raya, you scared the s**t out of me," I breathed. "Sorry," she replied. I doubled over as I waited for my heart to stop racing. "I have to leave. It's not safe for me anymore." I looked at her. "What do you mean?" "I just about got torn open by vampires last night. I entered their territory without permission." "Connor." Raya nodded. "I have to leave. I'm so sorry, Tess. But this is goodbye." I nodded, considering my friend's farewell. I looked at her. "Good luck." "Thank you." "Um." I closed my eyes as I thought about the news Connor gave me last night. "Lincoln." I knew she tensed up without me having to look. "You killed him... Didn't you?" Raya looked over her shoulder at me with a small grin. "Another reason why I have to leave." I was going to be sick. I rushed into my bedroom and grabbed my phone. Raya didn't fight me or try to hold me back, which was weird. I pulled Connor's phone number and tried to call him, but it went straight to voicemail. "This number is no longer available," the voicemail said. I shook my head. That couldn't be right. Connor wouldn't change his number on me! I hung up and tried, again. "This number is no longer available," the voicemail repeated. Damn! I looked at my phone as I hung up. "You thought it was going to be easy to hand me over, didn't you?" Raya purred. I pulled up Kade's number and called. But the voicemail repeated itself with "This number is no longer available". What?! I hung up and tried Adrian. The voicemail did the same with him. How am I supposed to warn the packs of a murderer on the loose? Both the Silver Lane River and Blue Shaded Moon packs needed to know! Raya clicked her tongue at me. "Poor, Tess. Her friends seemed to have blocked her number. I wonder why..." I looked at Raya. "What did you do?" I growled. "While they were all occupied at the barbeque last night, which, by the way, happy birthday. I got a hold of their phones and blocked you on each and every one of them. They won't know until it's too late." "Raya!" "Have fun later today." Raya waved me off and disappeared. Fuck! Wait... f*******:! I got on the app on my phone and tried to look up my friends, but nothing came up. When I tried to message them they wouldn't go through. This is bad...
