Mike helps Jen clear the table. Alexandre rises and pours himself another cup of coffee. The sound of running water fills the air as Jen washes the breakfast plates by hand before drying them off.
"Come with me." Alexandre motions for me to follow him.
"You behave yourself, ya hear." Aunt Jen wags a finger at Alexandre.
"Yes, Ma'am," Alexandre says. "I'll be on my best behavior, scouts honor."
"Were you even a Boy Scout?" I scoot off the soft cloth-covered bench.
"But of course, I was, ma belle. Would you like me to demonstrate the knots I learned to tie?"
"No, I would not."
He leads me into a formal living area off the living room, which has white walls and the same gray two-toned stone flooring found in his bedroom.
The leather couches are black and sleek with red accent pillows.
