[wind blowing]
[fabric fluttering]
[rustle][rustle]
MUSIC (What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong) PLAYING (distant):
I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom, for me, and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
[sniffling] ...This [muffled] still.... works?

[music fades slowly]
[tap][tap][hoarse voice] Hello. It's me, Vilfred Dela Cruz. You might be wondering why--why--[breaths in and out] why she's not the one speaking here. This phone was s-supposed to be hers.
You won't hear from her anymore.
B-because--oh god. [whimpers] It wasn't supposed to happen. It wasn't supposed to be her. It was going to be me. Me! It should've been me.
It should've been me who lost his life, not her. It--It's too much. It's so unfair!
She's dead.
[Vilfred cries]
It's all my fault. I should've double-checked. No, triple checked. Or maybe I should've been more careful. I can't. I just can't live anymore in this world. The last person I love and the reason I survive died. She died because of me. I-I can't go on anymore.
What's the point of surviving when the reason I go on is gone?
[thud]
I've lost everything since this apocalypse happened. I lost my safe place, my best friend, my friends, everything that I held dear. I was going to kill myself a week after the apocalypse. When she came into the picture, I knew I just had to protect her and live on. But what about now?
What happens now when she's gone?
Do I even have a reason to live through all of this?
WHAT HAPPENS NOW!?
[THUMP]
[glass shatters]
[screams] GIVE ME BACK MY LIFE, PLEASE! GIVE ME BACK, DEAN! GIVE ME BACK EVERYTHING I HAD GOING ON BEFORE THIS BULLSHIT STARTED!
PLEASE! Please! Please.
[Vilfred wails]
I'm going crazy. i***t, talking to a phone? As if it'll hear my pleas. This is s**t. Everything is s**t.
[silence]

MUSIC (What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong) PLAYING (distant):
I see skies of blue
And clouds of white
The bright blessed day
The dark sacred night
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
[thump][thump][thump]
The colors of the rainbow
So pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces
Of people going by
[chair squeaks]
I see friends shaking hands
Saying, "How do you do?"
They're really saying
"I love you"
[click]
[tap][tap][tap]
I hear babies cry
I watch them grow
They'll learn much more
[click]
Than I'll never know
And I think to myself
[heavy breathing]
What a wonderful world
[Vilfred sobs]
Yes, I think to myself
[click]
[c***k]
What a wonderful world
[THUD]
Oh yeah
