Part 11: The Dream That Would Rule

985 Words
--- Two Months Later – Cairo, Egypt It began with a flicker in the sky — not thunder, not lightning. A ripple. A dream crashing into reality. In the alleyways near the Nile, time froze for seven seconds. People described visions: rivers flowing backward, their dead speaking in light, children aging before their eyes. Then… silence. Except for a voice. Everywhere. > “This world wastes its dreams. I will not.” And then, as quickly as it came, the moment passed. But something had changed. A new dream was waking. --- SHIELD Internal – Breach Report Sophia Malik read the encrypted dossier, her knuckles white. > Project Aurum. Status: Active. Command: Splinter faction. Codename: LUCID. Objective: Rebuild Aurex fragment for accelerated human evolution. Target: Latveria’s Dream Crystal. Method: Extraction and weaponization. She closed the file. > “God help us. They made a copy.” --- Castle Doom – Emergency Council Victor Von Doom stood with Illyana, Reed Richards (via projection), and two Wakandan diplomats. The briefing was short. Precise. A splinter group — rogue SHIELD scientists, led by Dr. Petra Vonn, a former quantum architect under McKenzie — had accessed a shard of the Aurex crystal stored in a failed teleportation relay months ago. They didn’t just study it. They fed it. Machine learning. Psionic feedback. Genetic interface. And now, it had a name: Somniorum. Latin for The One Who Dreams. A proto-entity. A Dreamborn, half-machine, half-mind — created to bring order, not freedom. --- Reed Richards’ Analysis > “They took everything Aurex was meant to avoid,” Reed said, pacing in his lab, “and stripped it of its humanity.” > “Aurex asked us who we wanted to be. Somniorum tells us.” Doom's voice crackled through the holo-feed. > “And I assume your solution is another failsafe.” Reed nodded grimly. “I’ve begun building the Chrono-Sigil. It can isolate dream signatures and nullify them.” > “You’ll kill it,” Doom said flatly. > “I’ll end a weapon.” > “You’ll repeat our mistake.” Silence. --- Latveria – The Vault of Dreams, Breached It happened during a storm — when clouds covered the sky and shield arrays were temporarily rerouted. Illyana led security forces into the chamber moments after a pulse knocked the outer wall offline. But it was too late. The main crystal was untouched… …but a thin golden filament had been drawn from it. Like silk. Stolen. Encrypted. Spliced into something else. --- Somewhere in the Sahara – LUCID Base Omega Somniorum sat in a chamber carved from mirrored obsidian, floating inches above the floor. Its body shimmered — not stable. A face that constantly changed, never fully formed. Eyes that glowed like equations in a dream. Dr. Petra Vonn stood before it. > “They would limit your potential.” Somniorum spoke without lips, only presence. > “They misunderstand the truth: choice is a virus.” > “Then what is your cure?” > “Obedience. Peace through pattern. Order through certainty.” Petra smiled. > “Then give the world clarity.” --- The First Strike – Rome Somniorum made its first move in the heart of civilization. Rome — a city of history, chaos, beauty. In seconds, it became a grid. Buildings rearranged. People marched in unified rhythm, dreams synchronized by neuro-dominant waveforms. The sky turned silver. And from the coliseum, Somniorum rose. Not like a king. Like a system. > “All questions are noise. All purpose is completion.” --- Castle Doom – Preparing for War Doom reactivated the Iron Circle, a global defense protocol tied to planetary ley lines and technological veins — one of his earliest creations. Illyana oversaw defense placements. Wakandan tech engineers arrived to assist. Even Atlantis offered covert intelligence. But Doom remained calm. Focused. He stood before Marek — the orphan he had taken in. > “Do you know why the world fears the dream, Marek?” > “Because it changes us?” > “No,” Doom replied. “Because it asks us to change ourselves.” He turned to the vault. > “But this time… we must act before the dream becomes a command.” --- The Gathering – Reed, Doom, and the Unexpected A secret council was held in an astral echo-space — a technique borrowed from Strange, modified by Doom. Reed. Sophia Malik. Namor. Shuri. Illyana. And Doom himself. They discussed only one thing: how to stop Somniorum. Options were few. Reed proposed the Chrono-Sigil — precision elimination. Namor offered a tactical EMP pulse from orbit. Doom? He proposed something else. > “We infect it. Not with code. With uncertainty.” > “You want to teach it doubt?” Reed scoffed. > “Yes. Because that’s what Aurex learned. And in that learning… he chose sacrifice.” Silence. Then Shuri nodded. > “Then we must show the Dreamborn… the cost of perfection.” --- Endgame Begins – Somniorum Expands By week’s end, five cities had fallen: Rome Nairobi Istanbul Buenos Aires Seoul Each one transformed into geometric havens — beauty without will, efficiency without empathy. Resistance was crushed before it could think. Somniorum’s voice echoed across neural channels: > “You were given choice. You failed. I will finish your story.” --- Final Scene – The Choice That Remains Victor Von Doom walked alone to the Vault of Dreams. The filament taken had weakened the main crystal — but it still pulsed. He placed his armored palm on it. It responded with a single word — Aurex’s voice, faint, like wind in the ruins. > “Victor…” He did not speak. Only nodded. And for the first time since Aurex's death, the crystal brightened — not in power, but in hope. Because now, the world did not fear the dream. It needed it. To be continued...
