The effect of the pepper spray had a lasting effect on Siins eyes as his eyes were as red as an overripe tomatoes. He could hardly believe his own eyes when he looked at them in the mirror. But his mind was at ease because he knew that only was he lucky to escape with his life , the effects of the spray would eventually ware off in the coming days. Knowing very well that the strange coloration in his eyes would attract questions from colleagues and patients as well. He decided to adopt a black goodgle which he wore to mask off his red eyes. While he sat sat In his office after having a consultation with a top client. All he could think of was what would have been of his life if he had lost it due to his oversight with Baichi Gwana. Now that his first plan to rid Baichi of his life had failed. He knew for sure that an individual like Baichi would not be so redundant and would also go all miles to secure his life before trying to fight back. He didn't know how disappointed Kaltumi would be with him for almost loosing his life in a matter of seconds after she had gone through so much to make him the man he had become. Baichi had to go and Kaltumis rules had to be ditched ,was his resolution after having a lengthy thought. If only he was allowed to clean up the stones without having to confess anyone. The whole process would have been much more easier for him and he'ould have little to bother about. Taking a shot with a bow from a far distance was never a problem for him. He had learns to shoot arrows in Congo when he was much younger. It had grown out of a necessity to hunt game which he had to sell to buy books at school. He wondered if Kaltumi thought her instructions through as they seemed to expose him for no just reason.
" Where is the love. ?" He said to himself in a whisper.
" Why expose me to avoidable danger. I'm a just a window cleaner. A Surgeon is also not a soldier." Said Siin in a low toned monologue. A resounding thought of what was to happen if afterall Kaltumi never did love him and just used him to gain revenge and left him alone. Lonely an cold. He wanted to see her not only to quench the burning desire in his heart but also to ask her to kindly take away the need to confess anyone before getting done with the job. He knew very well that the sooner he completed his task the earlier Kaltumi would visit.
" How dare you delay my joy. You vermin." Said Siin and stomped his fist on his table. He was still in semi tantrums. When he heard a familiar voice outside his office. He paused for a while to further access the cognizance of what he was hearing and was very much sure that he was listening to Ramlahs voice.
" Maybe she felt bad about the way she treated me the last time and had come to appologise." Thought Siin as he relaxed his body into the leather chair. But after a while he realized the voice and it owner had passed by without stopping to say. He sprang from his seat and headed straight to the door, unlocked it and hurried outside to see if it was Ramlah who had been talking or just some one with a similar voice to hers. And almost out of sight in the distance ahead. He could see Ramlah walking away with Zaynaba as they held hands and discussed heatily while Ramlah held Mahir in her other hand. For a while , the notion that Ramlah could pay a visit to the facility without coming to see him , felt a dream to him. He quickly remembered that he had been putting on glasses and perhaps it was the effect of the pepper spray that altared his sight. He quickly removed the glasses from his eyes and took a good look at Ramlah and this time he was sure it was her and no one else. His was pause for a while not knowing how to react to the situation but then . Maybe it had skipped her mind that his office was just near by. He thought and decided to call her after initially concluding on letting her go.
" Hi. Ramlah." Said Siin in a sharp tone that was fashioned to go the distance. Ramlah did not turn and he realized that perhaps he had to be louder with his voice.
" Ramlah! " He said In a tone quite loud that almost every one present turned to see who had been shouting and Ramlah herself was no exception. Siin felt it was more dignfied for him to walk up to her instead of allowing her to Walk back to his office.
" Good morning Doctor Siin." Said Ramlah as Siin Closed on her.
" Good morning. Ramlah how are you and how is my little brother doing. " Said Siin as he looked at the face of Ramlah who turned her face away as she looked elsewhere.
" Good morning Doctor Siin." Said Zaynaba before Ramlah could talk.
" We are doing well sir. " Said Ramlah in a quick flow of words.
" That's great to hear. How are you doing Zaynaba." Said Siin as he turned his attention to Zaynaba to reply her greeting.
" I'm doing fine sir. Ehm , Ramlah give me just a minute I will be back. But wait here for me." Said Zaynaba as she smiled and left despite decoding Ramlahs body language which have opined her not to go.
" Wait Zaynaba. Don't go just yet." Said Ramlah as Zaynaba left the scene with a knowing smile.
" Are you sure you are good. You look tense. What's the matter." Said Siin as he stretched his hands forward to collect Mahir from Ramlah.
" I'm doing good. Thank you." Said Ramlah with her gaze thrown at something else that was not on Siins body.
" Where you about to leave. ? I head your voice and was promtped to confirm if it was you." Said Siin now throwing his attention at Mahir
" Yes Sir. I was actually about to be on my way when you called me. I was within the neighborhood and decided to visit Zaynaba. It wasn't planned at all. I will have visited everyone if I had planned to do so. " Said Ramlah while she looked to the tiled floor of the hallway.
" Oh . Okay I understand. I was just kind of surprised that you didn't come to say hi. I believe we are still friends , aren't we?." Said Siin and looked at Ramlahs face which was bent to the floor for reasons he could not understand.
" Yes we are friends . We are family to. I'm sorry I was in a haste. Perhaps next time if I'm less in a hurry I will stop by to say. By the way, Mahir is fine." Said Ramlah and fastened her pace in a bid to evade Siin.
" Are you avoiding me.? This is really not the Ramlah I know. You changed too much." Said Siin as he fastened his pace to meet hers.
" Change is constant Doctor Siin everyone changes." Said Ramlah in non challant attitude.
" But not this much . What did I ever do to hurt you so. It's unfair that you treat me like this . It's just unfair." Said Siin as he brought his steps to a halt, finally allowing Ramlah to zoom past him. Ramlah noticed that Siin had cut the chase and it danwd on her that she may had gone too far with her reaction. She paused for while and turned, facing Siin , looking him eye to eye.
" You said you can't love me. It's not my fault if choose to avoid you. It's for the peace of my heart. I'm sorry if you feel bad. You are a good man and you deserve a better treatment than I dole out to you." Said Ramlah and sighed deeply to ease her nerves.
" We can't always remain on a single issue for the rest our lives. I thought we are done with this issue of love and stuffs." Said Siin in a tenor of controlled infuriation.
" Great. That's the main reason I don't want have contact with you.My heart needs it's to heal as well. It would be faster when you not in sight. " Said Ramlah and this Time her voice was emotional and soft.
" But we are family.its impossible for us not to see ourselves as we fare our paths. Let go of any hate you feel in your heart towards me. I'm not the bad gui. All I did was execute a decision that is better off for you. No matter how had I try . You won't seem to understand. Only the future can vindicate me. " Said Siin in a controlled volume that showed his displeasure towards Ramlahs neglect towards him. Ramlah was pause for a while as their union had began to attract the glances of fellow workers and patient.
" I do not hate you. I just want to be left alone. You won't understand the feeling as well. I'm sorry Siin. I should have stopped to say. It's just a shame on me that I treat you with anything other than care and compassion. We could always say hi and get moving with life just to see where it takes us. I'm very sure the distance would do us both a lot of good. Doctor Siin. The lucky woman in your life would not be happy to see me and you together." Said Ramlah with a smile that didn't hide her pain of heart break.
