On board the car carrier.
The car carrier’s engine restarted and the truck lurched forward. Khalid loosened his grip on the Glock and allowed himself to breathe. But as the truck rolled down the highway, its speed did not increase much. He glanced over the rim of the window to see the approaching highway exit. The next road sign repeated:

He’s exiting, he thought.
The state patrol officer apparently had instructed the truck driver to pull the vehicle off the exit.
