“Stevie, what is it?”
“Bill, what you said back there. What you said about it being the CIA that is behind the whole thing.”
“Yeah. Load of s**t, right?” Bill said as he laughed. Latent, however, wasn’t laughing.
“I think I better sit down again.”
“Christ, Steve, what’s wrong? Talk to me.”
Latent buried his face in his hands.
“It’s happening again. The protocols. They’re happening again. It’s just like last year during the Thoughtstorm case; after we found those fingerprints that belonged to a CIA employee. The National Crime Information Center computer told us it had identified the prints, but they were classified. C12 stuff, remember? I’ll never forget staring at that piece of paper that the fingerprint technician handed me. It was a
