THE BILLIONAIRE’S SECRET CONTRACT Episode 4: The Secret Inside the Drive The car moved silently through the darkness. Emma sat beside Alexander, staring at the black drive in his hand. Neither of them had spoken since leaving Thomas's house. The words of the old security officer continued to echo inside her mind. "Don't trust the person closest to him." Who had he meant? Emma glanced at Daniel through the rearview mirror. The assistant was sitting in the front passenger seat, unusually quiet. Alexander noticed her looking. "What?" Emma lowered her voice. "Do you trust Daniel?" Alexander looked toward his assistant. "Why?" "Thomas's last words." Daniel turned around. "What did Thomas say?" Emma hesitated. "He said we shouldn't trust the person closest to Alexander." Daniel's expression became tense. Alexander noticed. "Don't worry about it," he said. Emma looked at him. "How can you say that?" "Because suspicion without evidence can destroy innocent people." Daniel turned back toward the road. But Emma noticed his hands. They were shaking. Something was wrong. When they arrived at the Hayes estate, Alexander ordered everyone except Daniel to leave the room. Emma followed him into his private office. He closed the door. "Nobody enters without my permission." Emma nodded. Alexander placed the black drive on the desk. "Are you ready?" "For what?" "To discover what our families have been hiding." Emma took a deep breath. "Yes." Alexander connected the drive to his computer. The screen remained black. A password appeared. "Password required." Alexander tried his father's name. Access denied. He tried his grandfather's name. Access denied. Emma thought for a moment. "Try my mother's name." Alexander entered: REBECCA CARTER. Access denied. "Try my father's." SAMUEL CARTER. Access denied. Emma looked at the necklace around her neck. "The keys." Alexander stared at the screen. "Maybe." He placed the golden pendant against a small sensor beside the computer. Emma placed her silver pendant beside it. The screen flickered. A message appeared. TWO KEYS ACCEPTED. Emma's heart raced. Then another message appeared. IDENTITY CONFIRMATION REQUIRED. "Identity?" Emma whispered. Alexander looked at her. "Maybe it needs your fingerprint." Emma placed her finger on the screen. Nothing happened. Then Alexander placed his finger beside hers. The computer beeped. ACCESS GRANTED. Hundreds of files appeared. Emma stared. There were names. Companies. Bank accounts. Photographs. Government officials. Politicians. Lawyers. Judges. "This is enormous." Alexander scrolled through the files. His face became pale. "The Black Circle." "What is it?" "A network." "How powerful?" "More powerful than I imagined." He opened one file. Emma saw a list of payments. Millions of dollars had moved between companies. "These are bribes." Alexander nodded. "Probably." Then he opened another file. A photograph appeared. Emma froze. It was her mother. But this wasn't the photograph from before. Rebecca was standing inside a room. Beside her was Samuel. And beside Samuel was Jonathan Hayes. All three were looking directly at the camera. Emma whispered, "My father knew your father." "Yes." "But why?" Alexander opened another file. The title read: PROJECT PROMISE. Emma stared. "What is Project Promise?" Alexander clicked it. A document appeared. "Project Promise was created twenty-five years ago." Emma leaned closer. The first paragraph read: "The Carter and Hayes families will remain connected until the threat is eliminated." Emma frowned. "Connected?" Alexander continued reading. "To guarantee protection, the first daughter of the Carter family will be joined to the heir of the Hayes family when the time comes." Emma's heart stopped. She looked at Alexander. "That's impossible." Alexander didn't speak. Emma read the sentence again. "The first daughter of the Carter family will be joined to the heir of the Hayes family." Her voice trembled. "Alexander..." He looked at her. "Our marriage." He nodded. "It was planned." Emma stepped backward. "No." "Emma—" "No." She shook her head. "You didn't choose me because you needed a wife." "I didn't know." "You said you needed a wife because of your grandfather's will." "I did." "But someone planned this." "Twenty-five years ago." Emma covered her mouth. Her entire body felt cold. "Why?" Alexander continued scrolling. Another document appeared. There were two names. REBECCA CARTER. JONATHAN HAYES. And beneath them was a handwritten agreement. "If the children survive, they must never be told about the promise until the Black Circle is destroyed." Emma's eyes filled with tears. "My mother knew." Alexander stared at the screen. "She knew." "And she let me sign the contract without telling me." "Maybe she had no choice." Emma looked at him. "Don't defend her." "I'm not." "You don't understand." "My entire life was a lie." Alexander became silent. Emma wiped her tears. "Why would our parents arrange our marriage before we were even old enough to understand what marriage meant?" "Because they believed the Black Circle would eventually come after their children." Emma looked at the files. "Did they know this would happen?" "I don't know." Suddenly, another file opened by itself. A video appeared. A man was sitting in a dark room. Emma recognized him immediately. Jonathan Hayes. Alexander froze. "Dad." The video began. "Alexander, if you are watching this, then the plan failed." Jonathan looked older than in the photograph. His face carried years of exhaustion. "I don't know when you will see this. But if you do, you must understand something." He paused. "Your grandfather is not the only enemy." Alexander leaned closer. "There are people inside our family who serve the Black Circle." Emma's heart raced. Jonathan continued. "Do not trust anyone who tries to separate you from Emma." Alexander looked at Emma. The video continued. "The contract is not a prison. It is protection." Emma stared at the screen. Jonathan looked directly into the camera. "Emma Carter is the key." The video ended. Silence filled the room. Emma whispered, "The key to what?" Alexander didn't answer. Then the computer beeped. A new message appeared. WARNING. UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS DETECTED. Alexander immediately disconnected the drive. Too late. The lights went out. Emma gasped. The office became completely dark. "Stay behind me." Alexander reached for her hand. A noise came from the hallway. Someone was running. Then another sound. Glass breaking. Alexander opened the door slightly. The security lights came on. A guard was lying unconscious in the hallway. Emma covered her mouth. "What happened?" Alexander pulled her back. "Someone is inside." Daniel appeared at the end of the hallway. "Sir!" Alexander raised his hand. "Stop." Daniel froze. Alexander looked at him carefully. "Where were you?" "Checking the security system." "Why?" "The cameras went offline." Alexander's eyes narrowed. "Who has access to the security system?" "Only me, the head of security, and you." Emma looked at Alexander. The suspicion returned. Daniel stepped closer. "Sir, I can explain." "Don't move." Daniel stopped. "I swear I didn't do anything." Alexander's voice became cold. "Then prove it." Daniel pulled out his phone. "Look." He showed them the security system. Someone had accessed the network using an encrypted account. The username was: JH-25. Emma looked confused. "What does that mean?" Alexander stared at it. "Jonathan Hayes." "But your father..." "Yes." Alexander looked toward the dark hallway. "My father may be controlling the system." Daniel shook his head. "That means he's alive." Before anyone could say another word, Alexander's phone rang. Unknown number. He answered. "Who is this?" A man's voice came through. "You found the drive." Alexander froze. "Who are you?" "You know who I am." "Jonathan?" Silence. Then the voice said, "Take Emma and leave the estate." Alexander's eyes widened. "Where are you?" "You have no idea who is watching you." "Tell me where you are." "I can't." "Why?" "Because if they find me, Emma dies." Emma's heart stopped. She leaned closer. "Let me speak to him." Alexander handed her the phone. "Who are you?" The voice softened. "Emma." She couldn't breathe. "Do you know my mother?" "Yes." "Is my father alive?" Another silence. Then: "Your father died protecting you." Emma's eyes filled with tears. "But you said—" "Listen carefully." The voice became urgent. "The contract must continue." "Why?" "Because the moment you signed it, the Black Circle knew you were alive." Emma froze. "Who told them?" "Someone close to Alexander." The call suddenly ended. Emma looked at Alexander. He took the phone. Then the estate's alarm began screaming. Daniel ran toward the security room. "Someone has breached the east entrance!" Alexander grabbed Emma's hand. "Come." They ran toward a hidden passage behind the library. Emma looked back. "Where are we going?" "Somewhere they can't find us." They entered a narrow underground tunnel. The door closed behind them. For several seconds, there was only darkness. Then small lights appeared along the walls. Emma stared. "You have a secret tunnel under your house?" "My grandfather built it." "Why?" "Escape." They continued walking. Finally, they reached a hidden room. Alexander locked the door. Emma leaned against the wall. Her breathing was heavy. "Alexander." "What?" "Who can we trust?" He didn't answer. "Not Daniel?" "I don't know." "Your security team?" "I don't know." "Your family?" Alexander looked away. "I don't know." Emma stared at him. "Then we have nobody." Alexander looked at her. "You have me." Emma's heart skipped. "Can I trust you?" He stepped closer. "Yes." "Even if this marriage was planned twenty-five years ago?" "Yes." "Even if the contract was designed to protect me?" "Yes." "Even if your family is responsible for everything?" Alexander's expression became serious. "I will never become my grandfather." Emma looked into his eyes. For the first time, she believed him. Then Alexander reached into his pocket. He removed the golden key. Emma touched her silver key. When the two keys came close, both began glowing with a faint blue light. Emma stepped back. "What is happening?" Alexander stared. "I don't know." A hidden panel opened in the wall. Behind it was a small safe. On the safe was the same symbol. The Black Circle. And beneath it were two words. THE PROMISE. Emma whispered, "The contract." Alexander nodded. He placed the two keys into the safe. The lock clicked. The door slowly opened. Inside was a single envelope. And written across it was Emma's name. EMMA CARTER. She stared at it. "How did they know I would be here?" Alexander didn't answer. Emma slowly reached for the envelope. Before she could open it, Alexander stopped her. "Wait." "Why?" "Because whatever is inside that envelope may change everything." Emma looked at him. "Everything has already changed." She opened the envelope. Inside was a photograph. It showed Emma as a little girl. She was standing beside her mother. And behind them was Jonathan Hayes. Emma's hands began shaking. On the back of the photograph was a handwritten message. "I promised your mother I would protect you." Below it was another sentence. "But I failed." Emma looked at Alexander. Then she noticed the final line. "The person who betrayed us is still beside you." Emma's blood ran cold. Someone was still inside the mansion. Someone close to them. Someone they trusted. And before Emma could say anything, the hidden room door suddenly shook. Someone was trying to open it. Alexander stepped in front of Emma. "Stay behind me." Another violent удар struck the door. Emma held the photograph against her chest. Then a familiar voice came from the other side. "Alexander." Emma recognized it. Daniel. "Open the door." Alexander looked at Emma. Neither of them moved. Daniel's voice came again. "Sir, please." The door shook once more. And then Daniel said something that made Alexander's blood run cold. "Your father sent me." Emma stared at Alexander. The billionaire slowly reached for the weapon hidden beneath his jacket. The secret contract had just become a matter of life and death. And the person standing outside the door might be their only ally. Or their greatest enemy.
