“Havier” I wrap my arms around him after he pulls me away from the guards. “How have you been? I missed you so much?” I hold his face in my hands with a wide smile on my face.
I knew she could trust him which is why I had fought even my father just to be with him. Why not? He loves me just as much as I love him. Now, he has come to rescue me and take me into his home.
“What are you doing here?” Havier’s thick voice asks sternly and I flinch slightly at the tone he used.
“W-What do you mean what am I doing here? I came to be with you, of course, my love.” I cover up my startle with a smile.
“Don’t! Don’t call me that!” Havier hiss loudly and I take a few steps back in shock.
“W-Why are you talking to me that way?” tears glistens in my eyes as I glance up at him. “You gave me this in case I wanted to find you and I-”
Havier takes the emblem from my hands and throws it to the ground. “This means nothing! What we had was nothing. You were just a casual fling, I can’t believe you actually came looking for me.”
I gasp as his words thunder down my ears, leaving an eternal scar on my heart. I can’t believe this. I just can’t believe what I am seeing.
This is the same man I had been with affectionately just two days ago. He had kissed me and promised we would meet again so why? Why is he behaving like this?
“H-Havier, there must be a misunderstanding. I-”
“The only misunderstanding is that you were gullible enough to think I had feelings for you. I was only looking for some fun and you were the best thing I could find in that mediocre village of yours!” Havier spits with his green eyes flashing with disgust.
My heart tears into a thousand pieces with his words and I find it hard to breathe now.
I can not believe my eyes. Who is this man standing in front of me? What had they done to my Havier? My kind, sweet Havier.
“Stop this! Stop saying all that!” I grab his hands. “What are you saying? Why are you doing this? We were in love, you confessed to me and we-we-” I burst out in tears.
“I can not keep repeating myself. Leave, Raya, and never come back. You and I were never a thing.” Havier says before he pulls my hands off him.
Without a single look back, he walks out and I fall down to the ground, drowning in my tears.
My head is ringing with his stinging words and my chest is too tight to breathe. How did this happen? What have I done wrong for him to push me away like that?
I fought against my father, left my village and gave up my entire life just to be with him but he had kicked me in the curb. Where am I to go now? Who will listen to her wails and help me out?
Not knowing how long I sit on the ground crying, I finally pick myself up and walk down the hill after the car refuses to start.
I couldn’t care less as my life had already been ruined. With my red puffy eyes, I wander around the town aimlessly, a few people raising eyebrows at the lost girl but no one paying attention to me.
My legs finally give up and I sit down in front of a building which looks like a motel, not knowing where else I can go.
After a few dreadful minutes, my body zaps into a wretched slumber out of exhaustion and hunger.
*****
With a sharp jolt, I wake up and straighten my body. My blue eyes wander over the room and clean bed I am on and a frown settles on my face.
What am I doing here? I clearly remember falling asleep last night in front of a motel so how did I end up here?
Looking down at my clothes, I am relieved to find out that I am still in the same dress I had run away with from home and Jayke’s boots are just by the bed.
“What am I doing here?” I whisper under my breath, not knowing who to ask as I am all alone in the bedroom.
Is this a house or the same motel I had slumbered in front of yesterday?
Getting up from the bed, I move to the window which is wide open with the bright sun shining through it.
I peek outside to see the bustling streets with people walking down, all engrossed in one thing or another. The rich, the poor and children running about the streets.
It is fascinating to me who had only lived within the confines of my tiny village and within the premises of the Mage Academy I had attended only for a year.
I had dreamt of a life here with Havier, wanting to build a family with him as I became a widely known artist but it had been only that. A dream.
A knock sounds on the door and I turn back, wondering who is behind the door.
“Come in.” I say.
The door is opened and I see a strikingly handsome male standing at the doorway. He is a bit older than me from his looks but his muscled physique tells me otherwise.
His dark brown hair is styled to the side to reveal his dashing looks and his enchanting grey eyes seem as if they could penetrate into my soul.
Dressed in a tailored suit, he stands so tall that I rise from the chair, intimidated by the man.
I can tell instantly that he isn’t human. He is a werewolf or Lycan just like Havier.
“Did I startle you?” his deep voice rings across the room and somehow, I find it hard to look him in the eyes.
“N-No, I just-” I clear my throat, not wanting to sound like a fool. “I didn’t expect you…” I trail off.
“Are you the one who saved me?” I ask even though the answer is pretty obvious.
The man steps into the room with his hands behind his back and closes the door behind him. My anxiety increases, being in a room with a stranger.
“Yes.” he answers. “I saw you passed out on the cold floor and instructed my men to get you a warm room. I usually do not care about peasants but you just seemed different.”
“I am not a peasant.” I grit out before realising my harsh tone. “...sir.” I add so I won’t sound rude to the person who had saved me from possibly freezing out there.
“And with an attitude as well.” a small smile escapes his lips. “I am glad I wasn’t wrong about you.”
“Thank you for taking care of me and feeding me. I would repay but I have nothing on me.” I say with a lowered head.
“I don’t do any act of kindness in my life expecting something in return so there would be no need for that.”
Suddenly, the man steps closer and I take a step back out of instinct. I look up to see him smirking as if amused by my actions.
“Are you scared?” he asks.
“I see no reason why I shouldn’t be.” I answer and then he chuckles.
“You have a fire in you that I want to keep.” the man says which makes me furrow my eyebrows. “I am Reynold Keper, Alpha of the Keper Pack.” he brings his hand forth.
“Raya.” I shake him even though I am still doubtful of his intentions with me.He is an Alpha which means he is the leader of his Pack so what did he want with me?
“Raya, I don’t care about your sap story or how you ended up sleeping on the streets despite not being a beggar but if you come with me, I can offer you a life different from the one you have led so far.”
I say nothing, not knowing how to respond to the Alpha’s suggestion that I come with him. After my last encounter with their kind, I want nothing to do with them.
But something inside me pushes me to trust the saviour of my life.
Five years later.
“With regrets and heavy hearts, we mourn the death of our dear Luna, Camilla Orengen. She was a kind, passionate and fierce woman who had been the best person we could ever ask for a Luna.” The official speaks in a gloomy tone.
Everyone who is present in the compound of the Keper Pack are dressed in all black outfits with their heads bowed as they listen to the eulogy of Luna Camilla.
“Her death was sudden and it has left a deep mark in all our hearts. She will forever be in our memories.”
I am standing in the middle row as I sniff back my tears, keeping my head downcast. I hadn’t been a favourite person to Luna Camilla but I still had to pay my respects.
She was the wife of the Alpha who had saved my life five years ago and I had also been the one who was taking care of the ill lady days before she finally kicked the bucket.
Being the Head Healing Mage of the Castle, I was given the task to heal the Luna but I failed which left me feeling guilty for the lady’s death.
When I was first brought into the Pack by Alpha Reynold, Camilla had been hostile towards me and I suspected that it was because she thought I might be having an affair with her husband.
In order to avoid trouble, I steered clear off her path for years until I was appointed as the Healing Mage and I had to see Camilla face to face nearly everyday.
The Luna was much kinder to me but she still remained reserved and kept me at arm’s length. I never thought she would end up like this.
I peek up a bit to see Alpha Reynold crying as he hugs his wife’s coffin. It takes great courage and strength for an Alpha to cry in front of his distinguished subject but Alpha Reynold was something else.
From the very moment I met him in the motel till now, he had always looked admirable in my eyes. The way he led his Pack with passion and devotion was something I respected a lot about him.
He is utterly kind and sometimes, I thought the world didn’t deserve someone as caring as he was.
“Healum Magnificum!” a tiny voice says from next to her and I look down at the little boy stretching his hand out.
“Mommy, my magic won’t come out.” he pouts as he stares up at me.
“Noah, behave yourself.” I say sternly and then sigh when my son’s face falls with disappointment.
“We will practice healing magic later. Now, we pay respect to the late Luna, okay?” I smile and the five-year old bops his head in agreement.
A week after the funeral, I hold Noah’s hand as we walk down the pavement of the Castle, heading to the Mage’s lounge which is situated at the end of the huge premises of the Keper Pack.
“Healum Magnificum!” Noah yells as he sticks his little hand out in the air.
“Magic doesn’t just happen out of the blue, my love. It takes training, power, and dedication.” I say as I point my index finger to a flower on the path and the flower shoots up from its roots and falls to the floor.
“But, mommy, I have magic too. I can feel it inside me!” Noah says excitedly, oblivious to the melancholy mood all over the Castle due to the Luna’s death.
“Of course, my love. I told you, we all have magic inside of us, we just have to find the right opportunity to?” I raise my eyebrows.
“Tap into it!” Noah finish off for me.
“Good job.” I smile before handing him the flower.
“Head Mage Raya.” someone calls and I turn to see a maid standing behind me.
“Yes?”
“The Alpha asks for your presence in the courtroom.” the maid says and I nod my head.
“I will be right there.” I answer before leaning down to reach my son’s height. “Noah, Mommy needs to see Alpha Rey for a minute. Now, run over to the lounge and let me see you.”
