The creature rushes us with a sound that does not belong in this world. It is not a growl or a scream. It is the sound of something hungry enough to swallow the sky. Trees bend from the force of its approach. The earth trembles beneath its weight. Adam moves before thought. One heartbeat he is human. The next he is shifting, bones cracking, muscles tearing and reforming. His wolf bursts free with a violent snap that sends dirt and leaves into the air.
