Sarah was standing in front of her mom, tears streaming down her cheeks, "Why would you do this to me, like I have no say in what's going to happen in my life, like my whole life is to be planned by my mom" Lyra was heartbroken as she listened to her. "Sarah, I mean no harm, these things happen." Sarah cut in What things? Do you mean marrying my junior sister off to the man I've planned to spend the rest of my life with? Or planning my life without consideration of my feelings? "Enough Sarah" Lyra shouted, You have no idea why I've made this decision. I'm not happy it'll break you, but you'll be fine. Sarah looked at her mom, her eyes swollen, with tears still rolling down her face as the intensity of the argument weighed heavily on her emotions. Her voice broke. "I can't believe this, he's my first love. It shouldn't happen this way" Sarah, I wish things were different. I won't let you make a lifetime mistake. Why do you think being with the one I love is a mistake? Lyra wasn't ready to pour it all out, at least not in Sarah's condition; it'd break her even more. Sarah had made sacrifices for her mom in the past and this appeared as an impossible sacrifice to make "It won't happen this time, whatever secret you're keeping. I won't offer up my happiness to keep your secret protected. No", she yelled. Emma walked in on a heated argument between her mom and Sarah. Emma interrupted, how's your health Sussy? Sarah darted at Emma with so much irritation, then walked out of their sight. Emma watches Sarah leave in incredulity. "Emma, Sarah can't marry Ryan," Lyra said. Emma, still shocked, asked, why?! I'll explain everything to you soon, just know you're engaged to him, Lyra replied. Sarah loves Ryan with everything in her. I can't do that to her. Don't I get to decide? Lyra abruptly walked out on Emma, leaving her in a state of shock and disbelief. Emma rushed to have a conversation with Sarah. *Knock knock* Sarah, still crying, replied "I don't want to talk to anyone. Go away, Emma." Stood up and slammed the door in Emma's face. Emma walked away sad. Still sitting in disbelief and sobbing, Sarah thought to herself "Do I deserve this?" "Where did I go wrong?" When the house was quiet, she climbed out her window and went to meet her best friend Lisa as she was the only one who could comfort her troubled heart. "Haven't seen you like forever now, how are you?"Lisa asked Sarah. Heavy silence engulfed the air. Lisa could not help but notice that her body language echoed distress… Lisa, with so much curiosity, asked" are you okay?" Sarah's eyes welled up with tears blurring her vision and rendering her speechless, her voice seemed to vanish, lost in the depth of her grief, and tears began to roll down from her eyes as she reached out for a hug from Lisa. Lisa gave her a comforting hug. It's okay I'm here for you! She finally found her words. "Lisa, my mom doesn't care about my feelings, she only wants to protect her secrets, Emma is to marry Ryan, how am I supposed to live with that?" Lisa sighed in disbelief. What's her reason? Have you heard from her? What reason would she have? Sarah replied, "She only wants what's best for her, she's unconcerned about me." And Emma, what is her take on this… "No one could say "no" to this, she's happy obviously…I hate to be hurt" Sarah said still sobbing. Lisa leaned forward, her eyes filled with concern as she asked Sarah, "But why would Ryan agree to hurt you? Does he not feel the same way about you?" Sarah let out a deep sigh, her heart heavy with the weight of betrayal. "I don't know, Lisa. I thought he loved me, but now I'm not so sure." Lisa furrowed her brows, her mind racing with questions. "No one can force him against his will. He must have agreed to this, and that's why the news got to you. If he had said no because he loved you, things would have been different." Sarah nodded slowly, tears welling up in her eyes. "You're right. He's the one to be blamed here." Lisa leaned back in her chair, studying Sarah closely. "Have you seen or had any conversation with him before now?" Sarah shook her head, her voice barely above a whisper. "No. He hasn't visited me since I fell ill. I had no idea he was capable of something like that. Their conversation was interrupted. Sarah couldn't wait for Lisa to get back to her as it was getting late and her mind filled with a lot of questions for Ryan, so she hurried away to meet Ryan as it was getting late and she needed to see and speak with him. Lisa came back to where Sarah was seated and she was gone, her mind troubled and she wished she hadn't been distracted by her customer to leave Sarah in such a state, the weight of her disappointment. She tied her badly, with uncertainty found her voice and asked herself, "Where has she gone to now? I hope she gets somewhere good before it gets dark." As Sarah ventured down the desolate path a sense of unease hovered in the air, and fear pressed upon her chest, making it difficult to breathe. Turning back to Lisa was not an option as she had already gone halfway along the road. Suddenly, an unusual sound broke the silence. She ignored it as she quickened her steps, it felt as if she was being followed, and then turned and her vision was blurred, still feeling nervous and holding her breath, she asked "Who's there?".
