I wish it did , so my mind can fall into serenity at the knowledge that something as feeble as a damn shower can be as shattered as I feel . I groan out loud , sifting my fingers through my tousled strands and spin around , pushing the bathroom door closed , and nearly sigh in relief when I notice the door has a lock . I lean my forehead against the cold oak wood , my eyes fluttering closed , and I release the sigh that's been trapped in my chest since the moment Kai stepped into the bathroom . My mind is a whirling chaotic mess . My mind whimpering, sorrow wrapping around me like thorny vines . I inhale a ragged breath, pushing away from the door and pad toward the shower , pulling Kai's shirt off over my head and toss it to the side , the cold air washing over my limbs and I shiver . I step in the spacious shower and fidget with the faucet, jolting when the pressured spray of water rains down on me . Of course he has a fancy shower . I roll my eyes but still sigh as the water cascades down on me , the heat of the drops causing my shoulders to sag , the feel of the warmth comforting me . I bristle as I reach for the shampoo , washing my hair slowly and urge myself to block everything out . All the screaming in my mind, all the confusion, all the pain thawing at my soul . I wash myself clean , scrubbing at my wrist and forearms , my mind blank as the skin turns raw, the soap burning the tender skin. I inhale a guttural gasp , the sponge falling from my fingers , and I push the faucet closed, rushing out of the shower , hastily wrapping the towel around my shivering body . I push open the bathroom door and don't even glance toward the bedroom door to see if the door is open or not . After all , this is Kai's room . I blow out a rush of air, walking toward his closet, pulling it open, shocked by the amount of clothes he has -- more so by the color . All of them are dark , except for a few white shirts, hoodies and sweatpants . The rest are black and dark gray . My fingers slide over the soft material , pinching it between my thumb and forefinger . I slide a white hoodie off the hanger and pull out a pair of his black briefs , pressing my lips together as my cheeks burn red . I can't wear my dirty clothes and I definitely can't wear this towel . I quickly slip into the clothes, rolling the top of the briefs a few times and slip the enormous hoodie over my head. Glaring down , I huff when the hoodie falls to my knees . I fold the cuffs of the white hoodie , feeling ridiculous . Why does he have to be so big ? Running my fingers through my hair , I attempt to untangle the knots, cautiously walking toward the door as I wince when my fingers tug at a knot in my hair . "Maybe use a brush ?" Unfamiliar , orotund and thick voice . My heart falls , and I glance off to the side, my mouth running dry. Dark brown hues, bronze skin and stark blond hair greet me. His eyes beam, playful with a hint of wilderness . He leans his shoulder against the wall, amusement gleaming on his face as his eyes rake down my body, clearly finding the outfit as ridiculous as I do. Who is this man ? "Do you not own a brush ?" He gestures toward my hair with his hand , grinning like a Cheshire cat. I'm too shocked to speak, caught off guard and wary . The man's eyebrows draw together before the rise. "I knew Kai was into the mutes ." He chuckles softly, pushing his hands into his trousers' pockets , his accent thick. He must be related to the Royals , given his graceful and confident movements . "I'm not mute ." I grumble , offended by his words . He's assuming that I'm one of Kai's floozy girls , which is clear by the way he grins . "I'm also not Kai's type ." I pull my hands from my hair and fold my arms across my chest. Does he not know that Kai has a mate ? Does the term mean nothing to them ? The man hums, smirking as he pushes off the wall and rounds me, striding toward Kai's bed, clearly unbothered yet amused by my presence. His confidence irks me . Why is everyone just walking into Kai's room as if this is the first stop ? And why is everyone just assuming that I'm one of his floozy girls ? I'm not . "If not , why are you here then ?" There's an accusatory edge to his tone, as if I chose to be here. I shift , fidgeting with the sleeves of the hoodie . "Who are you ?" Instead of answering his invasive questions , I want to know who he is . I'm wary , not knowing if Kai's father sent this man to end my life . Does Kai's father even know that I'm alive ? Or did Kai send this man to finish his job ? The man seems like the type to be unbothered by human existence , as if the concept of life doesn't matter to him . He sinks down on the bed , straightening out his clothes as he calmly slides his hands over his trousers . He clears his throat, sitting up straight and tilts his head to the side . "Are you one of Kai's fan girls then ?" He clasps his hands together , watching me with a hint of disgust in his eyes, not acknowledging my question . "Because, I promise you , you're not the first girl to break into his house." He deadpans, his eyes drifting off to the side, his eyebrows furrowing . What ? Girls have broken into Kai's estate ? "Now that I think of it, I'm curious to know how you guys do it ?" His face conveys genuine curiosity, as if he truly believes I broke into Kai's estate. He lifts his hand, shaking it softly with his palms up, as if to dismiss me from the question he just asked. I gape at him . What ? "Don't tell me , I'd rather not know ." He visibly shivers, disgusted at the thought. I huff, shaking my head. "I'm not one of Kai's..." I break off, my face scrunching up in disgust . "Fan girls ." I can't believe that girls actually do that . I've always heard girls fawning over Kai, all over the packs, girls would lust after him , but I never knew this is the extent they drift toward. Sure, Kai is absolutely beautiful, intimidating and dark, his mere presence demands attention , but breaking into his estate ? That's extreme . The man's face remains blank, blinking at me slowly . Disbelief . "Sure, of course you aren't ," He inhales a lung full of oxygen, sighing through his nose. "You were just lost, right ? And decided to enter his home and steal his clothes ?" He mumbles. My palms are sweaty, my mind flowing with anger as I stare at him, baffled beyond belief . I can't make out if he's bluffing or actually views me as one of Kai's stalkers . This makes my insides turn, my stomach clenching . I would never fawn over Kai the way those girls do , I would never see Kai in that way . Even if my thighs clench and my breathing turns labored when I'm around him . I have hate blooming in my heart for kaif Sinclair. My teeth grit together . "No ," I push out. The man rolls his brown hues. "I'm not one of Kai's stalkers , he kidnapped me ." My voice is firm and clipped, my fingers balling into fists . For all I know, this man could be one of Kai's stalkers . "So , if you could show me how to get out of the estate, that would be very nice ." I can feel my face turn red with anger , the audacity of this man irking me . A small part of me expects him to stand from the bed and guide me toward the exit , but he doesn't . Of course , he doesn't. His eyes lazily sweep over me again, his expression still the same. My nose flares and I spin around, stepping toward the door, but his voice halts my stride . "My name is Jasper ." It fits him. "I apologize for being so blunt ." He clears his throat . I swing around, and my doubtful eyes meet his again. He pushes up from the bed and swiftly walks toward me, outstretching his arm, his hand hangs in the space between us . I study his face, noticing the honey brown in his eyes and the freckles lightly littering his cheekbones, his nose sharp and his eyebrows bowed downward , slight creases streaking next to his mouth , making it known that he smiles often . I tentatively take his hand in mine and slowly shake it . "Skye ." I murmur, pulling my hand from his , and he hums , the sound dark and amused. He pushes his hands into his pockets. "Rings a bell ." He grins , his words not sitting right with me . What does that mean ? Jasper must see the confusion on my face . "Have you eaten yet ?" Jasper's question catches me off guard, my hand falling down to my stomach and he raises both his brows . "I'll take that as a no," He drawls out, his tone light . He grabs a hold of my wrist and tugs softly, moving me toward the door . "Let's go eat then ." I pull my wrist from his hold and nod , following behind him as he strides down the hall, seemingly familiar with the house . "How do you know Kai ?" I ask , wringing my hands together as I try to keep up with his long strides . Jasper looks at me over his shoulder , his lips tilting into a smile . "I'm his best friend ." He informs me . This information doesn't surprise me . They both seem to be dark and intimidating . I keep quiet , not sure if I should be striking up a conversation with him . Averting my eyes to the ground , I focus on my steps , until Jasper stops , halting my strides and I glance up at him , shuddering at the devious look in his eyes . "That's why I know so much about you, Skye ."
