"You're going to conduct an in-depth background check, anyway, so why do you need to ask that question?"
Flanders smiled. "That's the first time anybody ever answered the question in that way. Is there a reason why you did not answer 'yes' or 'no'?"
"Yes ends the interview. Obviously. Only a dimwit would apply to a government job with an unsavory record. And 'no' means I approve the government's in-depth investigation of my life, even if I withdraw from this job. If I thought I had something to hide I would have walked out with the others."
