Chapter 5

1006 Words
I was shocked to see my parents. As I had gathered we were about three hours away from our pack, and it must be a really good reason for them coming here. “What happened? Why are you here?” I ask flabbergasted “Nothing happened, dear. His majesty invited us” my father replied I looked at my mate with a c****d eyebrow, searching his face for answers “Let’s sit and eat before we talk” my mate said as he pulled at a chair for me Still a bit confused I reluctantly sat down. I looked at the menu, but couldn’t focus. The wheels in my head were turning as tried to make sense of the situation. Could something have happened in pack after we left? Zane took my hand in his and squeezed me reassuringly while smiling softly. I asked Zane to decide what we ordered, as I couldn’t get my thoughts in order. He happily obliged and ordered us both a Caesar salad and water. Comfortable silence fell on the table as we ate, and I could see my parents occasionally smiling at each other as if they were having a private conversation. When we were done eating I couldn’t wait any longer for answers. “Okay, I’m sorry if I sound rude now, because I really like being in your company, but I’m kind of freaking out. What’s going on?” I ask my parents They shared glances with my mate, and my father nodded at him. Zane cleared his throat and chuckled a little nervously. “As you know, it is tradition to give the parents of one mate a gift. Showing that I can provide for her. I have asked you here to give you this.” What? How come I didn’t know this? “I know your responsibilities as Beta makes a vacation difficult, therefore I have bought you a house a few miles of your territory. Making it possible for you to have some alone time without being to far away from the pack in case of emergency.” My jaw hit the floor and my eyes shot up to the size of saucers. My parents had always sacrificed their alone time and vacations in favour of the pack or me, and he just gave them the freedom to have that luxury. I turned my head at my parents. My mom had teary eyes and tried her best not to cry, and my father sat rigid and agape in his seat. Finally my father spoke up. “Your majesty, thank you for this kind gift. We really appreciate it and would like to accept this offer. However we have a request..” Now it was Zane’s turn to be surprised. He quickly gathered his appearance and nodded for my father to continue. “We would like to have the opportunity to visit Davina, and for her to visit us” Zane let out a breath and smiled broadly. “Of course, and that was already a given. But keep in mind that we are the King and future Queen of werewolves and have a busy schedule.” My father nodded and smiled in reply Zane’s words suddenly hit me. I would soon become the Queen. “Oh sh*t” I realised I had spoken out loud and not in my head. My face was now beet red in embarrassment and my mother scowled at my for cursing. I quickly whispered an apology. My parents and mate shook hands and I hugged them goodbye. My father had gotten a call from the Alpha about disturbances from the prison cells and had to get back to the pack. Even though Whitestone pack is rather small, we still have cells in case we catch a rouge or someone broke the laws. Zane paid for our lunch and grabbed my hand before walking us out of the cafe. The cold air kissed my nose and I pulled my coat tighter against my body. As always Zane opened and hold the back door of the car for me and slid in after I had gotten in. I noticed we were driving in a different direction than we had come from. “Were are we going?” I asked “Just a quick stop before heading back” He smiled and cupped my cheek. The tingles felt stronger as electricity zapped around in my body. We reached our destination and for the umpteenth time today my jaw fell down. We had driven to a beach, and a few feet ahead of us someone had set up duvets with many pillows. In front of that there was a small table with different cheeses and crackers, and a big campfire to keep us warm in the autumn air. Werewolves usually have a higher temperature than humans, but since we are in late October the weather is quite chilly. Zane led me down a small trail and lifted one of the duvets for me to sit under. After we got ourselves in comfortable sitting positions he took my hand in his. “I would like to apologise about this morning. I was out of line.” He said as he looked down on our hands. “Since we are blessed by the moon as mates and will we spending our lives together, I would like to be honest with you” His words caught me by surprise and made my stomach clench in fear. What if I’m not good enough for him? I’ve only known him a day and a half, and my heart already feared the thought of losing him. I didn’t trust my voice and only nodded in reply He looked me straight in the eyes, as if he searched for something before looking away again. He sucked in a breath and sighed “I’ve.. I’ve never had a girlfriend or been intimate with someone before. You are my first.. everything actually. I know what you must think of me hearing this.”
