Even though every part of me wanted to stay in Ariana’s comforting embrace, I knew that a sh*tshow was about to break out downstairs. So I dried my tears, took a deep breath and stood up. Ariana looked at me with worried eyes, but seeing my determination she nodded for me to go.
I walked as fast as my feet could carry me, silently cursing myself for agreeing to wear heels.
You’ll look so pretty.. Blah, blah, blah. I can’t even walk straight in these damned things I thought
After almost tripping down the stair and hooking onto the carpets a few times, I finally reached the great hall. Whispers and growls echoed in the walls.
Walking in, all I could see was my mates broad back and I could sense his tension.
“I want him exiled!” Zane yelled
“Your majesty, I don’t know what you think he has done, but I’m sure there are other ways to come to an agreement” Our Alpha replied, baring his neck in submission
No one knew what Charlie had done, or almost done, and I didn’t have the chance to tell Zane before he rushed out.
People turned their heads at me and looked confused, and I couldn’t blame them. They came to celebrate mine and Ariana’s birthday, and now a fellow packmember was beings threatened with banishment.
I made my way to Zane and stood in between him and the Alpha. “Zane, they don’t know. I.. I never told anyone” I whispered while looking down
He pulled me in, shifting his angry gaze between the Alpha and Charlie “He should still be held accountable for his crimes”
“What did she tell you? She deceived me, so why wouldn’t she lie to you? I’m sure she spun a heartbreaking story. Do you know what you are, Davina? Nothing but a filthy w***e! Charlie yelled
“DO NOT SPEAK OF OUR MATE THIS WAY” Zane’s voice were mixed with his lycan. Zane stepped in front of me, yet again shielding me.
Everyone was shook to their core by the scene. All thinking the same thing; who would be crazy enough to challenge a lycan, who would challenge the King?
The Alpha looked at Charlie and sighed “Lock him up”
“What the hell? You believe her over me?” He thrashed as two warriors grabbed him, trying with all his might to break free
No one dared raising their voice after that. Eventually everyone left the great hall and the only ones left were my parents, Ariana, the Alpha and his Luna, me and the King.
My parents stood by my side and hugged me. The Alpha paced back and forth. Ariana silently cried while her mother tried comforting her, and the King looked out the window with his back facing us.
If someone had told me earlier that this is how the day would end, I would have stayed in bed.
After 30 minutes of uncomfortable silence, Zane finally spoke up. “Davina pack your belongings, we are leaving after I have talked with the Alpha and Beta.”
“But..” I tried to object “Davina, please. Do as your told” My mother said firmly
“Ariana will go with you to pack essentials, and the Luna and I will make arrangements for sending the rest of your things.”
I started walking to my room, but before leaving the great hall I shot a glance at my mate. His eyes still burned with fury. This day was a complete disaster.
We sat down on my bed. It felt as if all the energy in my body had been drained, and in a way it had.
“Why.. What did Charlie do? I’m your best friend so why didn’t you tell me something had happened?” Ariana silently cried
I’m sorry.. I just couldn’t I thought to myself
When I didn’t answer she looked at me with anger and resentment
“He told the truth, didn’t he? You lied.”
“What? No!” I gasped
Ariana got up from the bed
“Bullsh*t, Davina. You tell me everything and you have never said anything about him! You always look at him with a spark in your eyes. Did you lie to take him from me? The King wasn’t enough?” Ariana spat
“What the hell are you talking about?” At this point I was actually confused.
Ariana had never mentioned liking Charlie, they didn’t even have nothing in common.
“You know what, never mind. Have a great life with your King. Don’t call me ever again, and forget we were ever friends” She yelled and stormed out
I had no idea what was happening. Never in our lifetime had we argued like this. I don’t even know if I could call it an argument. Tears were threatening to fall from my eyes again and at this point I might as well give up trying to fight them.
Looking in the mirror I was highly unsatisfied with my appearance and opted to take a shower. I shoved some toiletries and a few changes of clothes in my bag and looked around my room.
My entire life was in this house. Pictures of great memories, keepsakes from trips and adventures stared back at me.
Outside our house a large SUV was waiting for me. My parents stood uncomfortable besides my mate, who had a stone face plastered on.
After hugging my parents goodbye, Zane opened the backdoor of the car and gestured for me to climb in. He got in after me and nodded at the driver. My pack and parents disappeared and was replaced with thick dense forest.
I knew nothing of my new home, pack or mate, other than the obvious. I was mated to the King. We drove for a while and no one had spoken a word since we left and I dozed off.
