Chapter 4: The Rogue and the Warning

1395 Words
Ivy's POV I couldn’t take it anymore. The feeling of being watched was suffocating. Every time I walked down the street, I felt those eyes on my back, following me, waiting for me to make a mistake. Whoever it was, they were patient, too patient. But tonight, I was done running. Tonight, I was going to confront the person who had been following me for days. The sun was just beginning to set, casting long shadows across the streets. My footsteps echoed in the empty alleyway as I made my way down the familiar path I always took on my evening walks. My heart beat in my chest, thumping harder with every step. This time, I wasn’t just going to pretend I didn’t know. I wasn’t going to ignore the prickling sensation on the back of my neck. I stopped at the corner and glanced over my shoulder. There he was, lurking at the edge of the alley. I had seen him before, always just out of reach. A tall figure with dark hair, his face hidden in the shadows. But tonight, I wasn’t going to let him hide anymore. I took a deep breath and turned to face him, my legs slightly trembling, but I was done being scared. “Who are you?” I demanded, my voice firm despite the fear simmering in my chest. He didn’t answer immediately. He just stared at me, those dark eyes studying me like I was some kind of puzzle he couldn’t solve. Then, after what felt like an eternity, he spoke, his voice low and rough, like gravel scraping against stone. “My name is Kian Darkwood,” he said, taking a step closer. “And you’re more than just a curious Omega, aren’t you?” I furrowed my brow, confusion sweeping over me. “What do you mean?” I asked, my heart racing. Kian’s lips curled into a half-smile, though it didn’t reach his eyes. “I know what you are. I know about your bloodline.” He paused, his gaze shifting over me, as if trying to figure out how much I knew. “You’re not just any Omega. You’re tied to something much bigger. Something dangerous.” A chill ran through me. “I don’t understand,” I whispered, trying to steady my breath. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” “You don’t know?” Kian’s voice was filled with an eerie kind of amusement, but there was something else there, something deeper—a warning. “You’re being hunted, Ivy. You don’t even realize it, but your bloodline is worth more than anything they’ve ever searched for.” I took a step back, feeling like the ground beneath me was shifting. “Who’s hunting me?” I asked, my voice trembling now. There was something about the way he said it that made me feel like I was in deeper danger than I had ever imagined. “The same ones who hunt anyone with power. The ones who want to control you,” he replied. “And trust me, Ivy, they won’t stop. They’ll find you eventually.” I shook my head, trying to deny what he was saying. “No. I don’t want any part of this. I just want to live my life.” My voice faltered, but I forced myself to stand tall, determined not to show how scared I was. Kian’s expression softened for a moment, but only for a moment. “You don’t have a choice,” he said quietly. “You’re already caught in their web.” His words echoed in my mind, each one heavier than the last. I opened my mouth to speak, but no words came out. What was I supposed to say? How could I fight against something I didn’t understand? “I didn’t ask for any of this,” I said finally, my voice barely above a whisper. Kian’s eyes softened for the briefest second, but the hardness soon returned. “None of us do. But the truth is, Ivy, there’s something inside of you—something you don’t even know about. And it’s not just about your bloodline. It’s about what’s in your soul. You’re more powerful than you realize.” I shook my head again, not fully understanding, but the weight of his words seemed to sink in. He wasn’t lying. I could feel it in my bones, something stirring, something ancient and powerful, like a fire just beneath the surface, waiting to be ignited. “Who wants me?” I asked, my voice shaking now, fear taking over. “Who’s hunting me?” Kian looked around, his face tense, as if expecting someone to jump out at any moment. “I can’t say their names. Not yet.” He stepped even closer, his breath warm against my face. “But you need to know that there are wolves far more dangerous than the ones you’ve met. They’ll do whatever it takes to get what they want from you.” I was speechless. How could I have known? I had no idea what kind of danger I was walking into. I had thought my only problem was Damien Steele and his cold rejection, but this? This was something else entirely. “I just want to be left alone,” I whispered, my heart pounding in my chest. “You can’t outrun them,” Kian said, his voice firm now. “No matter where you go, they’ll find you. The only way to survive is to learn what you are. To understand the power you have inside of you.” The words “survive” and “power” hit me hard. I wasn’t sure I was ready for any of this. But I couldn’t ignore it. I couldn’t keep pretending it wasn’t happening. “I don’t want any part of this,” I said again, my voice breaking. Kian took a step back, his eyes narrowing. “You don’t have a choice.” He turned his back on me and started to walk away, his steps purposeful, like he was about to disappear into the night, just like before. I watched him, my mind spinning with everything he had said. The danger. The bloodline. The power inside me. And then, just as I thought he was gone, he stopped. Without turning around, he reached into his coat pocket and pulled something out. He tossed it to me without a word. I caught it instinctively, feeling the weight of it in my hands. It was a piece of torn paper—crumpled and worn, as if it had been folded and unfolded a hundred times. I glanced down at it, my breath catching in my throat when I saw what was written. It was a map. But not just any map. There were strange markings, lines that looked like they were drawn in haste. And at the center of it all, circled in red ink, was one name. My name. I looked up in shock, but Kian was already gone. Vanished into the darkness without a trace. I stood there, frozen, staring at the map in my hands. My name. Why was my name on it? What did it mean? I felt the air around me grow heavier, as if the weight of everything Kian had said was pressing down on me. I didn’t know what to do with this information. I didn’t know what to do with anything he had told me. But one thing was certain: I was no longer just a forgotten Omega. There was something inside me, something powerful, something worth hunting. And now, I was at the center of a game I didn’t understand. A game where the stakes were higher than I could ever imagine. I looked down at the map again, my heart pounding as I wondered who had drawn it. Who had known about me—about my bloodline—and why had they marked my name in red? I took one last look at the dark alley behind me before turning and walking away, the map still clenched tightly in my hand. I had no idea where this path would lead me, but there was no turning back now. I was already caught in the web. And the only choice I had now was to follow it.
