Damien's POV
I paced back and forth in my office, the weight of the news still sinking in. The phone call I had just received had shaken me more than I wanted to admit.
My company, Steele Enterprises, was under attack. A rival Alpha, Victor Ashford, had started sabotaging our operations, and I was left trying to pick up the pieces. The situation was escalating quickly, and I knew we needed to act fast. But the last thing I wanted was to involve Ivy.
I leaned against my desk, my mind racing as I thought about the mess I was in. Victor Ashford wasn’t just any Alpha. He was dangerous. Ruthless. And I wasn’t about to let him destroy everything I had worked for.
But there was something else gnawing at me, something that felt... off. The idea that Ivy’s bloodline was somehow tied to all of this kept creeping into my mind.
“Damien, we need to talk.”
I looked up to see Hayden, my right-hand man and closest adviser, standing in the doorway. His face was tight, his expression grim. I knew he had bad news, but I didn’t need to hear it right now. I needed to think, to come up with a plan. Not to be reminded of the mess I was already drowning in.
“What is it?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
“It’s Victor. He’s targeting us from all sides. His pack is infiltrating our supply lines, disrupting shipments, and causing chaos in the city’s infrastructure. We need to hit back, and we need to do it fast.”
I clenched my jaw. “I know that, Hayden. I don’t need you to tell me what I already know.”
He stepped into the room, his eyes never leaving mine. “There’s more. One of our sources reported that Victor is targeting you directly. He’s making moves to destabilize your control. He wants to take everything from you, Damien. Everything.”
I exhaled sharply, frustration rising in my chest. Victor Ashford had been a thorn in my side for years, but now he was playing a dangerous game. A game that could cost me everything.
“And what do you suggest we do about it?” I asked, my voice low.
Hayden hesitated, then spoke carefully, as if he knew I wouldn’t like what he was about to say. “We need Ivy. She has knowledge—information—about the bloodline, about the power behind the packs.
Her insight could give us the edge we need to fight back. It’s the only way we can outmaneuver Ashford before he makes his next move.”
I froze. The mention of Ivy sent a jolt through me, a familiar anger flaring up in my chest. “I’m not asking her for anything,” I said sharply. “She’s weak. She’s not a part of this world. She’s nothing more than an Omega.”
“But she’s not just any Omega,” Hayden pressed, his voice soft but insistent. “She has a connection to something much bigger. You can’t ignore that, Damien. If you want to survive this, you need to stop dismissing her.”
I slammed my fist against the desk, my frustration boiling over. “I know what I said. I know what happened between us. But that doesn’t change the fact that she’s not part of my world. I won’t drag her into this mess. Not after what happened.”
Hayden didn’t back down. “I understand your pride. I do. But you can’t afford to let it blind you right now. The situation is far more dangerous than you realize. If you don’t take action, if you don’t use everything at your disposal—including Ivy—you could lose everything. This isn’t just about business anymore. This is about survival.”
I stood there, staring at Hayden as his words hit me harder than I expected. He was right. I couldn’t ignore the gravity of the situation. I had to think bigger. But involving Ivy? It felt like the wrong move. After everything that happened, the last thing I wanted was to drag her back into a world she had already rejected.
“I’ll think about it,” I muttered, though I knew I was only saying it to placate him. I didn’t want to think about it. I didn’t want to admit that I might need Ivy’s help. Not after how badly I had treated her.
I turned away, pacing again as the weight of the problem loomed larger. I could feel it closing in, like a storm on the horizon, and I had no idea how to stop it.
“You have to make a decision, Damien,” Hayden added, his voice harder now. “Before it’s too late.”
Before I could respond, my phone buzzed on the desk. I looked at the screen, and my stomach dropped. It was a message from one of my trusted informants.
“Victor’s made his next move. He’s targeting someone you care about.”
My breath caught in my throat. The message was short, direct, and to the point. My mind raced, my pulse quickening. The only person who could fit that description was Ivy.
“What does this mean?” I muttered to myself, staring at the message as if willing the words to change. But they didn’t.
“Damien?” Hayden’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts. “What’s going on?”
I clenched my fist around the phone, my heart pounding in my chest. “Victor’s targeting Ivy.”
The words hit me like a punch to the gut. My mind went blank for a second, and I had to steady myself before I spoke again. “How could he know about her?” I whispered to myself, the question burning in my mind.
“I don’t know,” Hayden said, his voice tinged with concern. “But it’s clear that he knows something we don’t. And he’s using her to get to you.”
I ran my fingers through my hair, feeling the weight of the situation grow heavier by the second. This was bad. Worse than bad. I had already lost Ivy once, but I couldn’t lose her again—not to Victor. Not to anyone.
“I have to get to her,” I said, my voice low and determined.
Hayden nodded, but his expression remained cautious. “Damien, I know you’re angry, but don’t let your emotions cloud your judgment. We need a plan. We can’t just rush in.”
“I don’t care about a plan right now,” I snapped, turning toward the door. “I’m going after her.”
As I stormed out of my office, I could feel the weight of every step pressing down on me. Ivy was in danger, and there was nothing I could do to protect her unless I made things right between us.
But could I really ask for her help after everything that had happened? Could I really face her after how badly I had treated her?
I didn’t have the answers, but there was one thing I knew for sure: I wasn’t going to let Victor Ashford take her from me. Not again.
I stepped out into the night, my mind spinning with questions and regrets. I had to find Ivy, and I had to do it fast. But as I made my way toward the place where I thought she might be, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was walking straight into a trap.
The only question now was whether I would make it in time to stop whatever Victor had planned for her.
