Her She sat on the swing chair, her mind drifting into a different world. A world without hope, a world with nothing to hold on to. She gazed at the blank sky while watching the sunset. So much had changed in seven years. She glanced at the almost empty sheet of paper. How her heart used to skip a beat when she heard he'd written to her. How her cheeks burned with excitement when she read his sweet poetry. Now, she stared at the almost blank letter. So much had happened while he was gone. First, The Alpha died. When he died, Raina sent messages to urge him to come back home. She didn't want to tell him he'd lost his father already - lest he did something stupid out of sadness. However, he never showed up. Her father had to take over since he was in exile. She waited for him, day by day. She refused to take over the next Alpha position because she wanted him to have it. She wanted him to come back to her. Now, she stared at the piece of paper. It wasn't written in his usual neat and beautiful handwriting, neither was it written on an expensive material. There were neither poems nor words of affirmation. There was neither explanation of why he had ignored all her letters for a year, nor did the letter contain any piece of information about where he had been... Only a crumpled scroll, indicating he was coming. Raina read the words again and again, trying to process things. She did not know if she should be happy that he was finally coming or, angry that he took so long. "Will it feel the same way when he comes?" " Will he love me the same way? " True, they were just kids. She was only Nineteen when he ran away with the Luna. He was Twenty-One. They had been childhood lovers though. "There has been none without you, and neither has there been anyone after you. Yet, I feel so empty inside. " Raina soliloquized, holding the piece of paper like it was a death order. Why did she not move on after he left? Why did she refuse other marriage proposals? Yet, Why did she choose to train to be an Alpha, instead of training to be his Luna? Did she still love him? Did her heart still flutter with his name? Did his hazel eyes still make her heart leap? Moreso, why did he take so long? Raina went through so much when he was away. First, it was tortured by the Alpha who tried everything possible to find out where his family had gone to. She and her family stayed in the dungeon for many months. Afterward, he died and she waited for Tyler to come back home. How excited she was when he told her he was coming for the first time. How she threw away her less fancy clothes to make sure she was only dressing in her best attire, to not catch her unaware. How she spent extra hours daydreaming about her reaction when he walked into the palace. But he never showed up. Except a letter six months later, apologizing for not coming. Still, she waited. Then, the King of Aunderbridge, Seth, began terrorizing packs. This made her father immediately step into power. Alpha Demitri fought against his attack for many years. They were always armed, just in case the palace was under attack. She began training as an Alpha immediately, just in case something happened to Alpha Demitri. Thankfully, the training made her less busy, to the point she no longer awaited his letters like a child. However, that did not stop their love. After the ordeal, Her mother died in an ambush. She was shot by an arrow by the masked warrior, whom, she later found out was Seth himself. This gave Raina a new enemy and a new reason to train. For over a year, however, there hadn't been an attack on them. This gave way to loneliness again. She stared at the crumpled scroll before her, then at the sky, "I needed you by my side through these years. Where have you been?" Slowly, footsteps were heard from afar. She didn't mind it, however. She knew who it was. "I have talked with the Alpha of Moonlight Pack. He's willing to ally with us. His son is..." "No! " She objected, not letting her father finish his sentence. "At least, let me finish my sentence." "I said no, which is final. " "How long will you continue to linger in self-pity?" Raina stood up from her chair to face him again, "Self-pity?" "You have waited for him long enough. Will you not move on already?" "He is coming, Father. " "You said that weeks after he left. You said that after Alpha Alexander's death. You said that before I became Alpha. You said that during the time of Seth. You... " "What's your point? " "I think you should move on already. " She looked at him and then walked away. "Raina! Come back here!" "I'm not marrying anyone, and neither am I going to agree to be crowned Alpha until Tyler tells me himself that he doesn't want to be with me again." As she walked away, she let go of the letter. She entered her private garden - the only place that reminded her of Tyler, and the many things they did. Must I suffer like this for love? How long do I have to be tested? Move on. Was it that easy? Every day, her father made it difficult for her. He was alone, he wanted to see her happy before he died. He was old, he wanted to see his grandchildren. He wanted to crown her Alpha. But, how long did it take him to forget that they weren't supposed to even be in that position? Did her father forget, so soon, that Tyler was the real Alpha? "Oh, moon goddess, why do you tempt me in such a way?" Suddenly, footsteps were heard from behind, "Sometimes, I forget how much alike we are, my love. " Her heart skipped a beat, she turned to face him. "Tyler..?"
