Chapter 3

Sh*t.... Sh*t. Sh*t. Sh*t.... Sh*t It was bad enough Carter was cheating on me with a skinny B*tch in a red dress, but now I have to deal with the, "men in black" my father hired to keep me safe. Jacob, the man in charge of the guards, was standing at the door. He looked over to the boy who was now standing in his boxers with a towel thrown over his shoulder. His eyes trailed back over to me, who was now waving my hands around and shaking my head to give the, "It's not what you think" mindset for Jacob.  They glared at each other for quite some bit which gave me the time to turn and sneak towards the window.  "Hold it!" Jacob screamed, making me stop in my tracks.  "Get over here right now." He said with a stern voice.  Hesitantly, I turned and faced him as his eyes glared down at my small body.  "Layla..."  He spoke once more and I began to rub the back of my neck nervously.  "H-Hi Jacob. W-What brings you here to this.... location?" I said with a nervous tone. Of course he didn't speak. He just continued to glare at me. He bent his finger, motioning for me to come here as the last warning he gives me when I don't listen.  "I want to... but see... technically I am not suppose to be here." I made a run for the window and looked down. It was high but not to the point anything would break if I were to jump. I heard footsteps coming toward me and decided to jump anyway. Landing on the ground, I rolled over and laid there feeling the jolt of pain through my legs.  I looked up to see Jacob staring down at me along with the boy in his boxers. Why was he at the window, I shall never know. Jacob shook his head with disappointment and I knew the hard way was coming my way.  "She's on the move, move in..." Jacob said with his mouth close to his watch. I couldn't feel any more pain through my legs as I got up and brushed myself off. I saluted Jacob and took off running as fast as I could. I listened to all the commotion from the guards who, to my guess, was now clearing out of the building.  "She's on the move."  "Everyone clear out and get to the vans!" "You men, you're on foot. See if you could cut her off in the distance!" I could hear everything, even though I put some distance to me and the building. My mother called it wolf hearing. It was awesome at times like right now.  I kept running as the pain in my legs slowly started to fade and then was completely gone. I cut through the park that was near and ducked under trees, jumped over benches and stray cats. It was nothing for me since I was on the track team.  The wind in my hair and in my face was the best feeling ever. It was hard to get that unless I was running on the track field or just escaping my home. Ever since my guards became more strict and reserved on where I go and whom I go. I mean I always had the guards with me, but they became stricter after the incident. Ever since then, freedom has been granted little for me. My mother tries to get me some and covers for me but she can't truly go against my father when his mind is completely made up.  My thoughts came to a halt when the large black man built for ten men to jump out pulled up in front of me and came to a screeching halt just as I did. I sucked my teeth and turned to the other entrance of the park when I saw multiple black cars blocking that entrance and the street itself.  Sh*t.  I turned back to the black van and saw the passenger side door open slowly. A foot climbed out first and then Jacob's body was visible to my eyes next. I pouted at how fast his brain works to get me.  He closed the door and crossed his arms over his chest glaring at me with those angered eyes. I looked to the left and saw a part of the park where no cars or men were scattered at. I started to come up with a plan until I heard, "Layla," came out of Jacob's mouth which broke my entire concentration. I looked over to him and stuck out my tongue and made a quick run for it.    Now, I know what you guys are thinking, why don't she just go with the men and stop making it hard for her. That would be the logical idea at this point right? WRONG! See, if I get caught, then I have to admit to the fact I snuck out of the house without my guards and without permission. HOWEVER, if I get home, sneak into the monitor room, erase the data of my victory moment, THEN I could challenge my father about having proof and make him eat his words with a good old victory moment coming after it. Simple right? I got closer to the other side of the park when I started hearing rapid footsteps coming up behind me. I turned to face Jacob, running like it was nothing. I widened my eyes and made a break for it, running faster than any of my track runs. I got to the fence and jumped on it, climbing like it was life or death when I felt the large hand grab the back of my red sweater.  "Jacob! Let go! I don't want you to rip my sweater!"  "You know, I would never do such an awful thing to you, Layla. Now get down and let's go home." "No! If I go home, it will be the end of my freedom!" "Your life is more important!"  He pulled me with both of his hands as I held onto the gate tightly with my mouth and eyes clenched tightly.  "Jacob let go!"  He kept pulling until I felt his fingers tickling my sides causing me to laugh and lose my grip. "No fair Jacob! Stop it!"  I laughed and laughed until he snatched my body off the gate and held onto me tightly. He turned my body around to face him and held me in a bear hug so I wouldn't move.... or breath for that matter. I continued to struggle to get out of his death grip until he shook my body once making me stop. "Enough with this nonsense, Layla! You need to come home, your father is waiting for you along with your mother." "You really think I want to go back to that house so he can yell at me about how 'imperfect' I am?!" "Layla... is that how you feel?" I could feel Jacob's eyes on me. I laid my head on his chest to cover my sadness.  "It's how I see it. His only daughter..... who can't seem to listen to the rules put on her by force.... all because of-" "Layla.... That is not how your father views you. I know you're scared but if you just go talk to him calmly and tell him what happened, then I highly doubt he will do anything crazy." Jacob placed my feet on the ground and I huffed at Jacob's statement.  "How bout... I lighten the incident and tell him you came willingly?" I looked up at him with sparkling eyes and a smile on my face. He placed me down on my feet and brushed off my clothes to make it look a little bit more neat. This is why Jacob was my favorite. He always had my back even when he was forced to do his job and come get me on a normal day. It tried to make sure the punishment I had coming for me was less than what I truly deserve. Jacob and myself got into one of the black cars instead of the van to make the ride more comfortable for me. I saw by the window seat staring at the passing trees and houses as the car made its way to the mansion near the forest. It keeps our location hidden so people won't do anything crazy.  As we drove up to the house, I started to feel the pit of guilt forming in my stomach. Jacob laid a hand on my shoulder to ease my feeling, but in this case it wasn't helping as much as I wanted it to. He parked in front of the double doors where I saw my father, standing with his arms crossed and the angered glare that looked into my soul. He was pissed, I would say more than pissed.    Jacob exited the car and came around to my door to let me out. I slowly climbed out as I gripped Jacob's hand tightly with nerves forming in my wobbling legs. I walked up to my father with my hands in front of me and my head lowered. I looked up to his dark brown eyes that seemed to be black at this point and took a step back slowly.  "Otōsan I-" "Get in this house... Right now." His stern voice stabbed my soul as I shrunk hearing it.   I entered the house and looked to see my mother walking out of the living room with the same white dress I saw her in earlier. I ran into her arms and she took my hands and held them tightly. I looked at her with the "Save my life" eyes but she simply shook her head once with her eyes closed. That gave me the sign that she tried already but father had made up his mind and there was nothing she could do about it.  I turned to see Jacob and my father speaking and then stepped away from my mother who took a step away from me. Father soon joined mother and I with his arms still crossed over his chest.  "Otōsan I can explain-" "Explain what Layla... How you lied to your mother and I about going to bed early but in an half an hour a guard is pulling me to the side, telling me that you snuck out of the house, and then had the nerve to pull a victory dance in front of the camera!" "It... It wasn't like that! I just wanted to go out and have fun with a few friends!"  "Don't lie to me Layla! I saw the video! You were out there jumping and dancing!" He said mimicking the things I did in the video.  I looked down with guilt forming in my stomach once again and sighed lowering my head.  "As punishment, you are not to leave this house for a week! You are to go to school and then track and that is it. You will have your guards with you at all times!" "Father please! You promised that the guards would be at a distance while I am in school to not raise attention to me! And... And you can't take away the type of freedom I need as a growing teenager in this school. It's hard as it is with all of your stupid rules!"  I huffed and boiled up my fist, stomped my feet and basically started to act like a child in front of him. I would do anything just to keep the freedom I was allowed to have.  "Should have not disobeyed me in the first place!" "Mom, do something!" I turned and looked to her for help but she only showed that saddened look on her face.  "Honey..." She spoke while walking up to him. I lowered my head and slowly released the fist I had while taking defeat slowly.  "Maybe this is too much for her. She is your only daughter and this is nothing more than her just wanting to be out after hours. Sneaking out, however, is not the way to go. I can agree with your father on that one but-" "But nothing!" My father interrupted and glared at my mother.  "Layla... disobeyed my rule... My only rule for her!" "Only rule... Father?" I spoke while raising my head slowly.  "Only... rule...Father? No you should be saying the like... one-hundredth rule you set for me!" "Now wait a minute Lay-" "No! You want to know something, you don't have one rule! You have multiple rules. Don't go outside without your guards, don't sneak out of the house, don't leave without telling anyone especially me and most of all, don't go into the forest!"  "Layla-" "You got all these stupid rules on me and lets not forget the tracker you placed in red hoodie that Grandmother left me! MY favorite f*cking hoodie that you know I would not even think about damaging to take that f*****g tracker out. How dare you do that to me without even telling me!" "You better watch your mouth right now!" My father shouted while lowering his arms.  "Please... the both of you calm down..." My mother stepped closer to us and placed her arm in the space between us.  "And it's funny how you say don't go into the forest because of the beast that lives in there but news flash father, there is not f*cking beast in there! It's just a myth you created to keep an eye on me like always!" "Layla honey, that is enough. Please calm down..." My mother placed her hand on my shoulder and I smacked it away from me, too angry to even realize what I had done. She took a step back shocked at my actions then looked over to my father who was completely livid.  "I hate you at this point. You ruin everything for me!" "Layla enough!" It was my fathers turn now to boil up his fist along with clenching his eyes shut.  "I hate this house, I hate your rules, I hate feeling like I'm in prison and most of all..... YOU f*****g DISGUST ME!" My father's eyes widened and a loud smack was heard. The area around us was quiet. You could hear a pen drop. My mothers hand was against her mouth as she gasped at the sudden event. My fathers hand moved away from my face as I felt the stinging sensation and a handprint forming on my cheek.  "Charles! How dare you smack her like that?!" My mother pushed my father who glared at her with angered eyes.  "Amelia, stop! She is here disrespecting me after I have done nothing but keep her safe and active with the world around her. I will not be treated like this because she is wrong in this situation and does not understand that!"  They continued to argue. The shock is still in my system. He slapped my face. He slapped his only daughter. I couldn't believe it honestly. While they argued, I simply went upstairs and locked myself in my room. I stripped from my clothes and laid in my large bed, clutching my red sweater tightly. Tears streamed down my face as the thought of my father hitting me repeated in my head over and over again.  My mother eventually came up to check on me. She tried making excuses for my fathers actions but I ignored her calmly. My father came as well. Apologizing for his actions and he had no right to let his anger get to him like that. He was upset that I said what I said, which I can agree, I did go overboard and shouldn't have said what I said but he didn't have to hit me.  They both gave up and me, after crying for like an hour or two, I finally drifted off to sleep.
