Caleb

828 Words
Caleb watched as Ember went to close her door, but then immediately turned around and walked back out again. Where are you going? He thought to himself as he carefully followed her so she wouldn’t notice. At first, he could feel his wolf start to grumble as the thought passed through his mind that she might be going to him. But when she didn't turn towards the guest wing but towards the kitchens instead, he realized she was headed outside. Caleb turned towards the front entrance and crossed the front lawn as he casually walked up the steps to the walkway. He nodded at one of the warriors on perimeter duty as he walked by, and headed toward where the side entrance opened in the wall. He slowed down as he got closer and shifted his eyes to his wolf’s as he crouched low and peered carefully over the side looking for her. He spotted her just as she shifted. She was magnificent as she flowed through her shift in mere seconds, smoother and faster than most wolves. Her wolf was big and strong and the alpha power coming from her made him want to submit to her every need, if he had been in wolf form he would have rolled over and bared his stomach. He watched as her fur rippled in the light breeze as she gave a little shake. Something must have made her happy as she suddenly did a playful dance like a young pup. He chuckled quietly to himself as he watched her. She had to be one of the most beautiful creatures in their world. He just wished she wasn’t so headstrong. He thought she would have taken off along the wall but instead, she shot into the woods. This piqued his interest as he watched her sleek form disappear into the trees. He looked around quickly as he stripped down tossing his clothes gently off the side of the wall so he could retrieve them when he got back and shifted leaping off the wall easily. Thankfully the 15-foot drop was pretty easy in wolf form, and he took off after Ember. It didn’t take long following her, for him to realize where she had gone. He remembered finding her there last summer after she had gotten angry at her brother, at first he had just been worried about the future luna, but it was that afternoon that he started to have feelings for her. He remembered following her then, but holding back a moment in case she just needed space. He had watched as she found the waterfall and stopped in awe of the peaceful place. Rumour had it a water sprite used to live in those waters before they all left for the fae realm as the humans started to spread. The waterfall still felt magical. He had made noise on purpose that afternoon, and she spun around startled, but her face flushed as she had shamelessly looked him up and down. She had seemed so young even though they were close in age, but he couldn’t help but fall for her. He had hoped from the moment she left, till the moment they saw each other on her return, that they would be mates. His parents had approved the match from the moment they first found out he had a crush on the Alpha’s Granddaughter. They were even more excited when Alpha addressed the pack about his decision to name her his heir. Their family would move up in the ranks. Finally reaching the elites. They were always close but had never gotten into the ranks and it’s rubbed them the wrong way for a long time. They almost seemed more disappointed when Caleb showed up for dinner not mated with her than Caleb had felt himself. As the days went by and she didn't seem to be mated with anyone from the pack his hopes grew with their affection. He thought he had more time, that he could convince her the rest of the way to make him her chosen. She wasn’t supposed to feel her mate at the ball. Torin wasn’t supposed to feel her, but somehow he had. Caleb’s wolf shook his head angrily at the direction his thoughts were going. He couldn’t think about her being mated to that fae. Once he knew where she was going, he hesitated only a moment before he raced back to his things. He shifted quickly and hastily got dressed before grabbing his phone. Okay. She’s in the woods a good 2 miles northeast she’ll be at a small waterfall. I don’t know for how long. He texted then stuffed his phone in his back pocket and paced in front of the gate trying to decide if he should go check on her or not. His wolf grumbled in his mind. Finally shaking his head he turned and walked inside the gate. She would be fine.
