Ember felt like she was floating in some deep dark space. She couldn’t feel her body, she couldn’t feel anything. I wonder if I am in some sort of Coma. She thought to herself sighing in her mind. She heard a soft noise, but it felt like it was coming from far away and it sounded like a giggle. Well, that’s great, now I think I am going crazy. This time the giggle sounded closer, it was soft and sweet. Hello? Am I not alone in here? Where ever here is… This time she tried saying it but it still felt like a thought. You are never truly alone. You are a special werewolf. This time the voice she heard sounded different from the giggle as if it was from a different person. This voice was powerful, yet quiet and soothing. A soft glow appeared in front of her and seemed to get closer and closer growing in size, Ember started to see an image forming as it grew until all of a sudden, Ember was surrounded by it, she was in it. She was back in her body and turned to look at her surroundings, she was in a quiet clearing with a deep pool of water at its center, she couldn’t see anything but blackness beyond the treeline surrounding them, but it didn't feel foreboding, it felt safe. It was night and the moon was full like it had been back in the forest. The pool in front of her reflected the moon as if the moon was both in the water and the sky at the same time. The smooth surface rippled and from the center of the moon's reflection, the most beautiful woman Ember had ever laid eyes on emerged. She had long silver hair that flowed in gentle waves down to her waist, and she was wearing a soft flowing midnight dress that glittered and sparkled like the clearest night sky. Her skin was smooth and flawless and had a shimmer to it as if she was producing her own soft glow. Her silver eyes were kind as she came towards Ember a soft knowing smile on her face. Hello, Ember. Her lips never moved but the voice was strong in Ember's mind and she knew it was from this woman. “Are you… the goddess Selene?” Ember asked in awe. The woman’s smile brightened as she gave a soft nod. “Wow, one of my favourite stories as a child was when my mom told us about you speaking with her and giving her visions to help her escape! I never thought I would be visited by you myself.” Ember was so excited she almost forgot to bare her neck in respect. This was their goddess after all. “Are you here to help me?” In a way yes. Like your mother before you, you have been put in a difficult situation. I am here to give you a gift. The goddess's eyes glittered mischievously, and Ember felt a surge of unease, terrible things always happened to those touched by the gods in mythology and legends. “So is it going to become a family tradition for the women in our family to end up kidnapped by the bad guys?” Ember laughed nervously. Why did she always make bad jokes when she was nervous? The goddess chuckled softly in her mind. I hope not, your gift today is a little different than that of your mothers. Today I give you a gift that will be passed down through generations to come. As I told your mother, your family has been chosen to help change the tides, to help supernatural races come together. This is why I have fated you with the Fae Prince. The two of you will help bring peace to the wolves and the Fae. But that time will come. First, you need to survive your current ordeal. To help you with that we have a very special gift for you. The goddess slowly turned towards the pool of water once more and Ember stared expectantly, the waters rippled again and she watched, her eyes wide, as a wolf who looked exactly like hers when she shifted emerged from the pool. However, this wolf was bigger than hers and the soft grey fur looked like a deep silver that almost shimmered in the moon's light. The wolf stepped forward from the pool and came up to Ember, gently nudging her with her snout. Ember slowly raised a shaking hand to stroke the wolf’s head and looked into hazel eyes that matched her own. The gold flecks seemed to glow like the dying embers of a fire. ‘Hello!’ The soft sweet voice matched the giggles she had heard earlier and Ember burst into tears. “Are you my wolf?” Ember asked as she laughed and cried at the same time. ‘Well of course, why do you think I am so beautiful? You have always had me, I have always been in your mind and have been with you on every shift. But now we are joined once more as in the old ways and we can communicate together once again!’ Her wolf gave a little wiggle in happiness. “What’s your name?” Ember asked, wiping her face on the back of her hand. She realized for the first time she was naked, although as she finished the thought, a soft silver blanket surrounded her. She gave a grateful smile to the goddess who had taken a step back to watch the meeting of the girl and her wolf. ‘Artemis, my name is Artemis!’ “Artemis, I love it.” Ember smiled at the goddess, clutching the blanket around her shoulders. “Thank you!” This gift is the last I will be able to bestow on your family for some time as it has taken a great deal of power to bring back something that has been lost. I had to ask for assistance from my fellow gods, and they believe I am meddling too much. Remember things happen for a reason. Selene started to move back toward the pool. “Wait! Please, can you answer one more question? You said you fated me to Torin for a reason. Why could Artemis not feel him? Why does the bond not feel right?” Ember called out, Selene did not stop as she gracefully glided across the water to the center of the moon's reflection, her image became shimmery and rippled as if she was water herself. She glanced one last time toward Ember. Ask your wolf. And she was gone. Ember shook her head and looked at Artemis. “Why couldn’t you feel Torin?” Ember asked her burying her face into her fur and wrapping her arms around her neck, Artemis’s head reached her chest she barely had to bend over to hug her. ‘You know I can hear your thought’s. You don’t have to talk out loud. And since we arrived at your grandparents someone has been drugging us. Some sort of potion to suppress the bond. Apparently, someone did not want you to find your true mate! They weren’t very smart thought, they used a potion meant for wolves. They didn’t expect your mate to be a fae. So Torin found us anyways, and boy is he one dreamy hunk of meat.’ Artemis licked her lips and gave a wolf’s grin making Ember laugh. “You got that right, he has to be the sexiest man alive. But we are getting off topic.” Ember shook her head as she sat down on the grass beside the pool of water adjusting the soft blanket better around her. Artemis laid down behind her so she could lean against her soft warm fur. ‘Mmm, I’d like to get on top of that topic.’ She rumbled happily, and Ember couldn’t help but snort. Great, I just so happened to get a horny wolf. She thought, forgetting that Artemis could hear it. She chuckled. Where are we? Ember asked staring at the smooth surface of the water once more. Your subconscious. Artemis heaved a great sigh settling her head on her front paws. Who is drugging us? And why did we get taken by those vampires? I have so many questions. Ember had always dreamed about being able to talk with her wolf, now that she was able to she didn’t know where to start. They both chuckled at the thought. I don’t know who was drugging us, and I don’t know why the vampires nabbed us, although if I remember correctly the vampire you captured was on the phone and his partner escaped. I do know that we have a goddess-given sexy mate who seems to care about us, and we have each other. We will figure this out and save the others. Maybe it’s a good thing we were taken, we can find out what we need on the inside. “You’re right, we can use this to our advantage.” Ember agreed. They started planning out how they could use their position to their greatest advantage and find the answers they needed to help find and save the fae and wolves that have been taken. Once they figured out where they were they could work on their escape. Ember fell asleep curled up to Artemis.
