She had no idea how long she had been out, but she could feel herself starting to wake up in her physical form. As Ember gained consciousness she listened for a moment to make sure she couldn’t hear anyone close by before slowly opening her eyes. It took a moment to adjust her sight to the dim surroundings, her eyes felt fuzzy and she had to blink a few times to help clear them faster. Carefully she felt around her trying not to make any obvious movements, she wasn't ready to alert her captors that she was awake just yet. She could feel a threadbare blanket underneath her, it was the only thing between her and the wood floor. The wall behind her seemed to be wood as well. Her hands and feet were bound but there was enough slack that she could move around a little. Her captors were either lazy or expected her to be there for a while.
Someone had thrown a thin worn blanket over her to cover her nakedness. There must have been enough wolfsbane in the darts they used that it forced her to shift back. Once she determined she was alone, she sat up a bit more and took a better look around. She was in a cold dark room in what looked like a shack or run-down building. The room was bare except for a small window with bars over it and a single door. The window revealed it was dark outside and she could just see the outline of trees. She must be in a wooded area. Closing her eyes again she put her head back.
Artemis do you hear anything? She felt her hearing get even more sensitive as she stilled her breathing. There, she heard a slight rustle of fabric on the other side of the door, that must be a guard. It sounded like there was only one and the rustle sounded low so she assumed he was sitting. They must not think her a very big threat.
Well, we will prove them wrong. Unfortunately, they may not live to learn from their mistake. Artemis snickered.
That’s an evil thought, Ember thought back to her wolf and had to stifle her chuckle while shaking her head. Apparently, Artemis is a badass.
Yes, yes I am. Don't you forget it, Artemis snickered again as Ember focused once more on listening. She could just make out the sound of quiet chatter a little distance away. Huffing Ember readjusted trying to get more comfortable. Thankfully her hands were tied in front of her so she could keep the blanket from falling off as she sat up.
How long have we been out? Ember asked her wolf.
They ended up giving you a very large amount of wolfsbane because you kept running. It had been almost twelve hours before the goddess and I could even wake your subconscious enough to talk to you. It’s been twenty-four hours total from when you were taken. If you didn’t have me you might have been out even longer. Artemis growled at their captors for hurting her girl. Ember was surprised at how long she had been out, she felt like she had only been sleeping for a few hours not a full day. She leaned against the wooden wall behind her tucking the blanket more securely around her as she thought.
Well, I guess we can let them know we are awake now. Maybe we can figure out where we are and how many are guarding us. Ember let out a sigh.
“Hello? Could I at least get some clothes and go to the washroom?” She yelled out loudly, pretending she didn’t know there was someone right outside her door. She heard a shift and a thump and she tried not to laugh. She assumed she had startled her guard and he jumped from her sudden holler. She heard another rustle and a male voice called out.
“The girl's awake.” The male voice said loudly in a thick Scottish accent. The chatter went quiet and she could hear footsteps crunching through the foliage. It only confirmed she was in a wooded area, and her captors were not trying to keep quiet.
“Are you sure?” She heard another male voice from outside the door, he didn’t have a thick accent. His seemed more refined, almost English that had been in Scotland for a while.
“Yea, she yelled out asking fer clothes and to use the bathroom.” The first voice replied before the door swung open. Ember could just see the soft glow from a fire about fifty feet away before two forms shadowed the doorway. Artemis helped Ember’s sight sharpen so she could get a good look at the two men now standing just inside the small space making it feel even smaller. The one she assumed was her guard, he had the look of a typical Scottish male, average height, well-built with a tight muscular body, red hair and a beard. His eyes were red and he had a scowl on his face, which she assumed was there permanently, as he stood with his arms crossed against his chest. The other held himself with an air of importance and she knew this was the second voice. He was tall and clean-shaven, his black hair neatly trimmed and he had a sharp angular jaw. If he hadn’t been her captor she would have found him very handsome. I wonder if this is the leader of this band of misfits. He doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who would camp out in the middle of the woods. Ember thought to Artemis, she snickered in her mind making Ember’s lip twitch as she tried not to smile.
“Is something amusing you? You seem in rather good spirits for a girl tied up on the floor.” The leader took a step forward and crouched down so he was at eye level. Ember noticed he was in dark slacks and a button-up shirt his sleeves rolled up casually. No, he definitely didn't fit in here at all. “You are a pretty one. Imagine my delight as my men showed up with such a prize, and naked too.” He smirked trying to make her feel uncomfortable. Ember chuckled.
“I need to use the bathroom.” Ember gave him her best smile, trying to show that he didn’t intimidate her.
“I see, any more requests?” His lips curled into an amused grin as his eyes raked across her body, he raised an eyebrow at her in question.
“Some clothing and something to eat would be great, I also wouldn’t mind a name, and the reason you had me drugged and kidnapped perhaps? You do realize this is a direct violation of the peace treaties between the vampire coven here and the Scottish Pack.” Ember kept her voice light as if having a perfectly civil conversation. She watched as the vampire thought over her requests. He turned to the redheaded man and nodded once and watched as he left before speaking again.
“You can call me Q, you don’t really need any more information than that. I’m having your guard bring you something to wear and something to eat. You’ll have to forgive the meager food options, we enjoy different meals.” He grinned as his eyes glowed eyeing her up once more, this time with a look of hunger flashing across his face as his tongue darted across his lips. He closed his eyes and leaned in close taking a deep inhale. “You smell different from the others. You smell sweet and strong. I may wish to keep you for my own.” Ember shuddered and tried to hide the revulsion she felt.
“I don’t think you would enjoy me as a meal… Q.” Ember said Q with as much sarcasm as she could put in one letter, trying not to shy away from his now uncomfortably close presence.
“Oh, you would be more than just a meal, you would keep me strong for a very long time.” His voice was barely a whisper and his eyes were glowing even deeper. Ember noticed his fangs elongating as he leaned in even closer. She’d had enough of playing nice, she shoved both her hands out pushing as hard as she could with her hands tied together and growled a warning. Her blanket fell from her shoulders but she didn’t notice as she came up to a low crouch for a better defensive position. Q didn’t fall backwards as she had hoped, he moved faster than she could watch and was standing once more glaring down at her before backhanding her across her face and smirking once again.
“You are a feisty one, no you won't be a meal. I may keep you for my daily dessert.” He let out a laugh that made her skin crawl, then licked his lips. “I would have so much fun breaking you to be a good little servant, I’d have you begging me to taste you.” Ember couldn’t stop the shiver this time and she was suddenly very aware of her nakedness. Thankfully her guard came back at that moment breaking the tension in the room as he stomped past Q to throw a shirt and sweatpants at her. He also had a bucket and a small paper bag which he also threw at her. Ember caught the bucket before it crashed into her face but didn't have time to catch the bag which hit her on the same cheek that still stung from Q’s slap. She shot a glare at the redhead who then pulled out a knife. Ember was trying to think of her best plan to avoid the most injury and escape being stabbed when he motioned for her hands.
“You some magician who can get dressed with yer hands tied together?” Red asked her when she looked at him in confusion. Q stood blocking the door. Ember hesitated a moment trying to decide if she should try and shift and make a run for it.
Not yet, there is still too much wolfsbane in our system. We can’t shift yet. Artemis told her, Ember sighed and held her hands up. Q grinned as if he knew what she had been thinking and he winked at her. Ooh, how I will enjoy ripping that smirk to pieces. Artemis growled and Ember released the growl out loud, which only made Q laugh again. Red just kept his scowl as he cut the bonds around her hands then swooped down to cut the ties around her feet.
“Good girl. Just so you are aware, you are nowhere near your precious pack lands, and I have fifty men here with me surrounding your lovely little hut, who would all love to have a taste of you. Now be a good girl and behave or I will tie you back up again naked.” Q kept grinning as he watched Ember quickly shake off the ties and pull the shirt over her head. She pulled the pants on next and looked expectantly at Q.
“Am I able to go to the bathroom?” She asked, Red gave out a loud heavy laugh before Q could answer.
“What do ye think the bucket's for?” He pointed at the bucket and Ember tried not to let the disappointment show through. She had hoped they would let her out so she could get an idea as to where she was and where everyone was positioned. Red shook his head and walked back to the door and took up his position just outside once again. Q gave her one last hungry look before blowing her a kiss.
“Well my darling, I’ll come back for a visit in a little bit.” The door slammed behind him and she heard him call another guard over. A minute later she heard rustling under her window and realized a third guard had been placed there too. She walked over and reached up anyways to look out but the bars stung her hands. They were laced with silver. She swore and heard the vampire chuckle outside her window. Growling in frustration she walked back to the blankets and picked up the paper bag to look at its contents. There was a bottle of water and a granola bar. Her stomach grumbled reminding her she hadn’t eaten since breakfast two days ago. She ripped open the granola bar and ate half of it in one bite then opened the water bottle to wash it down. She was so thirsty she took two large mouthfuls before noticing the funny taste in her mouth.
Wolfsbane! Artemis growled and Ember scowled at the bottle. They wanted to make sure she wouldn’t be shifting anytime soon. If they had so many vampires why would they be worried about her shifting? Fifty of them should easily be able to take her down.
Unless Q was lying, Artemis finished her thought. Drink the water, for now, we need the hydration. They don’t know we are stronger than the average wolf because you have me. I might be able to burn through the wolfsbane faster if they gave you a normal dose. Ember grinned and downed the rest of the water. They sat back and started to try and work out a plan.
