The ride back to the pack house was silent. She had pushed Caleb back gently after seeing the look on Torin’s face when he hugged her. She was trying to comfort her friend but it felt wrong now. She still couldn’t feel the bond properly with Torin but the hurt in his eyes was as strong as feeling it. The more she sat thinking about it the more guilty she felt. Torin had sat behind her, she wished she could feel his emotions since hers were a complete mess. Caleb was brooding and looked angry. Which only started to make her angry. Why was he upset? Suddenly she felt tingles on her shoulder and she glanced back. Torin had casually rested his hand on the back of her seat gently touching her shoulder. He wasn’t looking at her, he was looking out the window. Did he feel her emotions? Or was he trying to calm himself down? Either way, it was a comfort. She let out a sigh and rested her head against the window closing her eyes and trying to clear her head.
They arrived at the pack house and her shoulder felt cold at the loss of contact as Torin unbuckled and got out opening her door for her.
“Thank you,” she smiled up at him and he gave her a soft smile back and a subtle wink, before she turned to address all three. “Ok, Caleb can you bring our guest to the cells? I need a shower and a change of clothes I’ll be down in an hour and we can wake our new friend up to see what he knows.” Caleb nodded and headed away. Ember nodded at the other two, “See you in an hour.”
Ember was almost to her room when she heard her name called, she turned and saw Torin walking quickly to catch up to her. “Torin, is something wrong?”
“I am sorry.” He said awkwardly, running his hand through his hair. Why did that look so sexy?
“Sorry for what?” Ember asked trying to distract herself from her thoughts.
“Not being there. Caleb is right. I should have been there to help. We should have gone together or both stayed. We shouldn’t have split up, either way.” Torin scrunched his features as if trying to figure out what to say next. “I’m also sorry for acting out by the truck. I almost attacked Caleb.”
“Torin he started it, actually I feel like I am the one who needs to apologize. I know my wolf hasn't claimed you but I can’t deny I do feel something. I shouldn’t have hugged Caleb. That was inappropriate…” Ember looked down, when she said it out loud she realized just how much of an ass she must seem like. If this had been any other scenario she could have started a fight she may not have been able to stop. If Torin is her mate she should never have comforted Caleb in that way. She looked up again and saw a conflicted look on Torin’s face.
“I feel like this is not fighting fair, but I have never been one to follow the rules.” He muttered almost too quietly for Ember to hear before his face changed from conflicted to something else, he took a step closer and placed his hand gently behind Ember’s head at the nape of her neck and pulled her into himself. She stepped forward as if in a trance unable to stop her heart from racing, she felt like it would burst from her chest. He leaned down and hesitated, hovering right above her lips. “Tell me no if I'm overstepping.” He whispered gazing into her eyes waiting for the slightest hint of objection. She closed her eyes and finally gave in. Torin’s lips softly pressed against hers and she felt the tingles burst through her entire being as if her whole body was on fire, she gasped at the sensation and he went to pull back, but she grasped his shirt in her fist and pulled him back in and all his self reserve melted. They started kissing more passionately and fervently as he gently moved her backwards until she felt the wall at her back his hand on the back of her neck supporting her as his kiss deepened, his other hand roamed her body before holding her flush against his chest. Ember put her arms around his neck, running her hand through his hair as she let a slight moan escape her lips. Torin pulled away to catch his breath resting his forehead against hers. “I’m sorry. I have wanted to do that since I watched you enter through the grand doors at your ball, and then again as I danced with you, and as I watched you fight in the rings, as you took charge of our mission, as I came around that corner and saw you bagged a vamp. As I watched another man hold what I so dearly want to be mine.” He whispered as they panted from the heat of the moment. “I wanted to give you space, to let you come on your own to me, but I needed to feel… to feel if you felt the same, even if just a little.”
Ember felt her wolf stir at his words as her emotions threatened to take over. It felt so right to be in his arms it was different from anything she had ever felt before like her wolf was starting to wake up. “I feel it, I think even my wolf is starting to feel it. It’s getting stronger the more I am with you.”
“Be mine, please. Let me show you I am all yours, let me show you the goddess doesn’t make mistakes.” He rubbed her cheek with his thumb and leaned in for another soft kiss, making her melt in his arms. Everything felt so right all of a sudden. She nodded smiling up at him and he let out a whoop of joy before spinning her around in the hallway.
“There’s no point in denying my feelings, we do need to figure out why my wolf is being slow to claim but for now we have more important matters. Speaking of which, I really do want to have a quick shower and change, before we put our guest to question.” She stepped back and headed towards her room once more.
“I feel like I must help you since it is my fault you are in such a state.” Torin hurriedly caught up, a silly grin on his face as he wiggled his eyebrows at her.
“Slow down there Romeo, I said I can’t deny what I’m feeling and agreed to start a relationship, I didn’t say let's jump into bed.” Ember laughed when he pouted.
“Well, technically I offered to help you shower. No bed involved.” He winked again and she couldn’t help but give him a slight shove.
“You can wait in the hallway.” She teased him and he stood at her door with his mouth open.
“Upon my honour as a prince I would never do anything to offend my lady,” He bowed to her and still bent over he glanced up making her laugh again.
“Oh yes, your honour as a playboy prince.” He winced, then sighed as he stood up then leaned against the wall beside her door.
“Fine, I shall stand sentinel to defend your honour. May I wait for you here and escort you down to the cells when you are ready?” He gave her puppy dog eyes as she opened her door.
“Oh fine, if you stop all the silly talk you can wait in my room. I won't be long.” She grabbed his arm and dragged him inside. “You can make yourself comfortable.” She motioned towards her sitting area as she walked into her dressing room to pick out a new outfit then went into her bathroom closing the door behind her.
