The Second Escape

Jax’s pov

Malakai reached for his gun, but before he could stand, the window shattered, and a canister of silver gas hissed onto the floor.

My wolf choked uncontrollably as the room began filling up with the paralysing gas.

“Stay with me” Malakai managed to get out as he moved with great effort.

I shook my head because I couldn't get anything out and just then the door burst open and masked men rushed inside with their guns pointed at us.

I fell to the floor, my eyes already filled with tears, I tried moving, but my body refused to comply. The dosage of the gas was fast acting.

Malakia tried to move ,he pushed himself up, shaky but stubborn, and took a step forward like he could still take them on, he hadn't even taken a step when one of the men walked to him and swung the butt of his gun into Malakia’s side very hard.

“ Ahhh” he screamed

He staggered , holding onto air as he tried to stay up, but his body finally gave out and he dropped to one knee, then collapsed fully onto the ground, face first.

“Malakia!” I tried to shout, but nothing came out.

Malakia tried to raise his head but the man hit the back of his head with the gun and he passed out.

I was weak and couldn't even manage a breath properly but I tried forcing myself forward, crawling with my hands to get to him.

One of the men noticed me and walked over slowly, like I was nothing. He squatted in front of me with a mocking smile.

Before I could react, he hit me hard on the side of my head with his gun and the impact sent a white flash through my vision, blurring everything in sight.

The last thing I saw was Malakia lying still on the floor, and the men standing over us like we were already finished before it all went black.

I woke up again to darkness,my thoughts scattered and my breath labored. The stench of whatever place I was in hit my nose immediately and I gagged.

“ Dammit” I cursed

I tried to move and instantly regretted it because my whole body felt like it had been beaten from the inside. My throat was dry, my head pounding so hard I thought it might split open. I wondered how long I had been out .The stench didn't help matters as it made me nauseous.

For a few seconds, I just lay there, breathing slowly, trying to remember where I was. My nose slowly became accustomed to the smell and it no longer affected me this way it did.

Then it all came rushing back, Malakai and I were caught at my place.

My eyes snapped open even though I could barely see anything, the room was pitch black and I blinked a few times to see clearly.

“Malakia…” I tried to say.

My voice was so rough I could have sworn that it wasn't me who called out the name.

I forced myself to sit up slowly, ignoring the dizziness, I placed my back on the cold wall and shook my head slowly.

The room was a dungeon, with cold walls and cold floors, chaimd were hanging loosely from the center and it looked like it had been used severely times for torture.

I was in a cell, oh my god, We were locked up in an unknown place by an unknown people

“Malakia,” I called again, louder this time.

I waited but there was no reply.

“ Malak..ai” I called out slowly this time ,a lot of things running through my mind

Then I heard a faint sound like a sharp intake of breath and then movements.

I followed the sound and saw him stir from the other side of the room.

He groaned softly, shifting like someone fighting to wake up from a nightmare.

Relief hit me immediately and my racing mind calmed at once.

“Thank God,” I muttered under my breath.

He coughed once, then slowly pushed himself up.

“Fuckkk,” he said weakly.” You are a loud one.”

I let out a short breath that almost sounded like a laugh. “You’re alive.”

“I already know that,” he replied.

I leaned back against the wall, trying to steady my breathing. “They got us.”

“Yeah,” he said quietly. “I noticed.”

“ Why are you being mean?” I scoffed “ it's not like I sent the people after us or sent them out location.”

“ This isn't my fault,” I quickly added

“ I wouldn't say it isn't.” He scoffed.

“ You wouldn't” I sneered “ I was following your orders.”

“ I'm normally on guard but with all those pheromones you were releasing, I couldn't think straight.” He said.

“ I wasn't releasing anything, you wanted me and that's totally fine” I said “ I mean I'm hot , I also wanted you , we were lost and they followed us , so it could also be your fault.”

A long silence followed as he rested his head back on the wall.

I couldn’t keep up with the silence anymore.

“You got knocked down too easily,” I teased weakly.

He scoffed. “I was already half dead from that gas.”

“Excuses.”

“If I wasn’t weak, I’d have broken that guy’s arm,” he muttered.

I shook my head slightly.

“ You're supposed to be an Alph…”

“ I'm a beta,” he corrected, “ but that doesn't mean I'm weak,I'm from a strong pack.”

There was a brief pause

Then he said, “you didn't even put up a fight””

My chest tightened. “ I know .”

He stood up and walked to my side of the room before sitting on the floor beside me, I could hear him breathing heavily.

Then, in a lower voice, he added, “ are you fine?”

My face went hot, a reminder of our s****l escapade that was interrupted.

“Yes” I nodded

“ Good,” he nodded back. “ I really didn't want to explain to Roxy when we got out of here.”

My mind immediately went to my best friend that was taken.

She sacrificed herself for me and I was still taken, I wondered if she was okay.

“ He wouldn't hurt her.” Malakai’s voice interrupted my thoughts “ he probably needs her for my Alpha, and he wouldn't let anybody hurt her.”

“ Why are there a lot of people after her?” I said

I hit my hand slowly on my head “ I mean I always suspected she was important, but not this important to have a lot of people on her trail.”

“ There's still a lot you would find out about your best friend, but not now “ he said slowly “ I really need to rest and get my strength back.”

I nodded, he was right, we needed to rest.
