Chapter 5: Who Are You Saying Is Angry?

1219 Words
The next day. The three of them walked into the school together, with Bai Haoxuan constantly complaining about how early the classes started. "I'm so tired... I really don't understand why we have morning reading sessions..." he grumbled. "Second Brother," Su Yueyue suddenly tugged at the hem of Bai Haoxuan's shirt. "What’s up, Su Su? You think the school hours are too early too?" Bai Haoxuan asked with a teasing smile. The girl smiled softly and replied, "I just think, maybe Second Brother would look better with black hair..." Su Yueyue had agreed to help Qin Yixue with two things, and the first one was to persuade Bai Haoxuan to dye his hair back to black. "Huh? Really?" Bai Haoxuan’s eyes lit up, and the sleepiness seemed to vanish from his face. Su Yueyue nodded gently. "Then I’m going to dye it black today!" Bai Haoxuan excitedly slung his arm over Su Yueyue’s shoulder and playfully pinched her cheek. "Su Su, you’re so cute, I…" Before he could finish his sentence, the little girl was suddenly pulled away. "Don’t touch her," Bai Lichen said coldly, pulling Su Yueyue behind him, giving his younger brother a disdainful look. "You didn’t even touch me, why are you getting so worked up?" Bai Haoxuan pouted, clearly unhappy with Bai Lichen’s actions. "Don’t you dislike Su Su? What’s the big deal with me touching her a little…" Although Bai Haoxuan was upset, he was still a little scared of his older brother and didn’t dare pull Su Yueyue back. He didn’t really understand why his brother was so cold toward Su Su, yet couldn’t stand him even touching her for a second. "How long has it been since you were last beaten?" Bai Lichen asked lightly, his tone icy. As soon as Bai Haoxuan heard this, he immediately stopped grumbling. He didn’t dare say another word and could only sulkily watch his violent older brother. Although they were brothers, Bai Lichen had no hesitation when it came to hitting him. Bai Lichen’s eyes flashed with satisfaction as he held onto Su Yueyue’s slender arm and walked away without a glance at his brother. Su Yueyue, struggling to keep up with his long strides, called back to Bai Haoxuan, "Second Brother, we’ll go home together after school." "Okay, okay!" Hearing the girl’s voice, Bai Haoxuan’s mood instantly brightened. He grinned and waved, saying, "Goodbye, Su Su~" As he waved, he thought to himself, How can there be such a cute girl in the world? But as his gaze shifted to the boy beside her, his smile immediately disappeared, and a look of deep resentment filled his eyes. Such a good girl, and yet she’s already fallen for his older brother... Su Yueyue had to almost jog every few steps to barely keep up with Bai Lichen’s pace. "Brother, actually, I think Second Brother doesn’t mean any harm. You don’t need to be angry…" the girl tried to explain. "Angry?" Bai Lichen suddenly stopped, his gaze hardening with a hint of threat. He grabbed one side of her face, his fingers pressing gently into her soft cheek. "Who are you saying is angry? Hmm?" His younger brother had been right; this little fool’s face really was soft. Bai Lichen finally understood why Bai Haoxuan liked to pinch her cheeks so much. The feeling was really good. Su Yueyue didn’t resist, her clear eyes showing a mix of confusion and fear, worried that Bai Lichen might hit her. Perhaps noticing the unease in her eyes, Bai Lichen finally loosened his grip. He didn’t say anything else, but his steps slowed down as he turned and headed toward the classroom. In English class, the teacher was asking the students to do a dictation. After the dictation, the teacher placed the textbook down and said, "The third row, hand your papers in. The rest of you, exchange with your desk mates and correct each other’s work." "Damn! So unlucky!" "No way… desk mate, let me see how to spell that word 'convenient'?" ... Cough, the English teacher said from the front, "Third row, I can see everything clearly from here. Don’t even think about cheating. If I catch you, each word you misspell will need to be copied 100 times." As soon as the teacher said this, no one dared to hesitate anymore. They quickly wrote their names and handed in their papers. "Brother, here," Su Yueyue handed her English notebook to Bai Lichen. "Can you give me the words you wrote?" The boy’s gaze was as cold as ever. He simply tossed out a sentence without looking up, "I didn’t write anything," then lay down and went to sleep. Su Yueyue stood there, holding the notebook, looking at Bai Lichen with a helpless expression. Nearby, some classmates had noticed the situation and began whispering among themselves. "I have to say, the school bully is kind of ungrateful." "The school bully does have a cold aura about him, though…" "If I had such a perfect little beauty chasing after me calling me 'Brother' all the time, I’d laugh in my dreams." "Why do you think the school bully is so cold? Why does that little softie still follow him around every day?" "Exactly, those girls before, they were all scared off by just one word from the school bully." "Maybe that little softie is being threatened by the school bully?" "Could be. I saw the school bully grabbing Su Su’s face this morning, looking like a fierce devil. Su Su didn’t even dare to say anything!" "The big shot is too scary. Even such a cute little fairy is no exception." ... Realizing that Bai Lichen had no intention of helping her, Su Yueyue felt a little down and withdrew her notebook. "Xiao Yueyue, Xiao Yueyue—" Luo Ziyang called her softly from behind. The girl turned around to see Luo Ziyang holding a piece of paper and handing it to her. "I don’t have a desk mate, so how about we correct each other’s work?" Seeing this as a lifeline, Su Yueyue quickly took the paper and handed her notebook to him, her voice soft, "Thank you." Their conversation caught Bai Lichen’s attention. He slowly opened his eyes, gazing quietly out the window. His peach blossom eyes flickered with an unreadable emotion. Su Yueyue gently opened her English book, took out a red pen, and began correcting the words, making sure not to make any mistakes. After she finished, she slowly put down the red pen and stared at the red X’s next to every word with a troubled expression. "Xiao Yueyue, I finished. Here you go, there’s only one mistake," Luo Ziyang handed the notebook back, then asked, "Did I do mine right?" Su Yueyue hesitated before slowly handing over the paper. "s**t—" Luo Ziyang exclaimed in surprise when he saw all the red marks. "Not a single one correct? I even looked it over this morning…" "Do you want me to check it again?" Su Yueyue asked in a small voice, turning to him. "Oh no, no need, Xiao Yueyue. Just focus on your class," Luo Ziyang said casually, tossing the paper into his desk. To be honest, with his abilities, if he’d gotten any correct, it would’ve been a miracle.
