Chapter-8 DeathRider

Hope’s POV “Miss Lancaster?” I turned from the clothes scattered across my bed to find one of the household staff standing outside, holding a large black box. “There’s a delivery for you.” “For me?” I frowned. “I didn’t order anything.” She nodded. “Yes. It was delivered a few minutes ago.” “Thank you.” I took the box from her and carried it over to my bed. When I opened it, there was a short fitted black dress beneath a cropped leather jacket, with a pair of knee-high boots tucked beside them. I pulled the dress free, running my fingers over the smooth fabric. It was bold and far sexier than anything I normally wore. Definitely not my style. I frowned, wondering who could have sent it, when I noticed the small black envelope tucked beneath the jacket. Opening it, I found a single card inside. Wear this tonight. I want to see you in it. Leon. Leon? He sent me this? I pulled out my phone to call him, but before I could dial his number, a text from him popped up. Leon: Do you like it? Me: It's very different. Leon: I know. Will you wear it for me? I smiled. I might never have chosen it myself, but knowing he'd picked it out for me made it impossible to say no. Me: Of course. Leon: Good. Meet me at the parking lot behind City Square at eight. I frowned. Me: Aren't we watching the festival with everyone at the square? Tonight was the annual Lunar Awakening Festival, one of Ashbourne's biggest celebrations of the year. It was held every year during the first full moon of spring, a night dedicated to renewal, growth, and the bond between wolves and the moon. By sunset, the entire city would gather in the square for music, food, drinks, and, of course, the fireworks. Leon: You know me better than that, doll. I don't follow crowds. I rolled my eyes but couldn’t help but smile. He was cocky, but I couldn't deny that I liked it. Me: Then what are we doing? Leon: It's a surprise. Before I could ask anything else, another message appeared. Leon: Do you have a swimsuit? Me: Yes. Why? Leon: Wear it underneath the dress. Me: Leon, what are you planning? Leon: If I tell you now, how will you spend the whole day thinking about me? Heat crept into my cheeks. Leon: See you tonight, doll. I pressed my lips together, but it was useless. I was already smiling like an i***t. It had been almost a month since Leon and I had been together. After our disastrous first night, he'd more than made up for his behavior. He took me to dinner, surprised me with my favorite peonies, and actually took the time to get to know me over the past month, asking a million questions and seeming genuinely interested in every answer. Yes, he was still somewhat a mystery to me, and sometimes his intensity overwhelmed me a bit, but no one was perfect, right? “See? I told you to give him a chance,” my wolf said smugly. “Yeah, yeah,” I replied, unable to stop the smile tugging at my lips. Everything had been going so well. Almost too well. Still, there were moments I couldn't quite explain. Sometimes, when Leon looked at me, there was something in his eyes that made me feel as though he were seeing someone else. I always pushed the thought away. He had apologized and had been nothing but good to me since. That night had been a mistake, and everyone made mistakes. Besides, he hadn't tried to touch me since that first night. Not once. I couldn't decide whether I was relieved or disappointed. My nights had been filled with dreams of him lately. And they were definitely not innocent. At exactly eight, I was waiting by the parking lot, glancing around nervously. I didn't want anyone to see me. I'd told my parents I was going out with Harper and a few friends. Where are you, Leon? I had just picked up my phone to call him when the low rumble of an engine caught my attention. I turned toward the sound and saw a large black motorcycle approaching the parking lot. The thing looked like a beast, unlike any motorcycle I'd ever seen before. DeathRider was written across the fuel tank beneath a winged skull emblem. And Leon was riding it. I’d never seen him on a bike, but God, it fit him. The leather of his jacket strained against his broad shoulders as he leaned into the machine, his white T-shirt clinging to his chest. He handled the massive beast with a relaxed, lethal confidence that made my stomach drop. A slow heat spread through me. Seeing him like this... it was a predatory kind of sexy that made me forget how to breathe. “Wow,” my wolf purred as Leon rolled to a stop in front of me. I was still staring at the motorcycle when he looked over at me, a faint smirk playing on his lips. “What... what is this?” I asked, unable to tear my gaze away from the sheer size of the machine. “This is my baby…DeathRider,” he said, running a hand over the fuel tank with quiet pride. “I built her.” I stared blankly at him. He built her? How? “Hop on, doll,” Leon said, distracting me. “We don't have much time.” My gaze dropped to the narrow leather seat behind him, and I swallowed, a nervous knot forming in my stomach. “What's wrong?” Leon asked, catching my hesitation. “I...” I mumbled, looking back at the bike. “I've never ridden one before.” Something in his expression softened. He reached for me, his fingers brushing gently over my cheek. “Do you trust me?” I met his gaze. I wasn't sure about the motorcycle, but I was sure about him. Slowly, I nodded. “Then come on.” I climbed onto the seat behind him, still unsure where to put my hands. As soon as I settled in, Leon slipped off his leather jacket and wrapped it around my waist, pulling the sleeves around his own torso before tying them securely. The knot drew me flush against his back, and suddenly I was acutely aware of just how close we were. “There,” he murmured, looking back over his shoulder, his dark eyes meeting mine. “You’re all tied to me now.” A shiver shot straight down my spine. His back was a wall of solid muscle pressed against my breasts. I slipped my arms around him, clinging to his warmth as the familiar scent of leather, pine, and masculine heat surrounded me. Reflexively, I leaned closer, my lips hovering dangerously close to the eagle tattooed on his neck. His scent hit me again, and desire curled low in my stomach. Instinctively, I pressed my thighs tighter against his hips. Leon went rigid beneath my hands, his entire body locking up instantly. His breathing turned harsh and heavy as he turned his head slightly, his mouth barely an inch from mine. “Careful, doll,” he growled. “Keep breathing on my neck like that, and we aren't leaving this parking lot.” What? “And I'm already a very starved man.” Before I could respond, the engine roared beneath us, its deep, guttural growl vibrating through my body. Leon tightened his grip on the handlebars. “Hold on tight, doll,” Leon murmured, a hint of thrill in his voice. I tightened my arms around his chest just as he twisted the throttle. DeathRider roared beneath us and shot forward, the sudden burst of speed sending a thrill through my entire body. A startled laugh escaped me as the wind rushed through my hair and the city blurred around us. I had no idea where Leon was taking me. But I couldn't wait to find out.
