The floor-to-ceiling glass walls of Edith’s office reflected a ghost.
She stood motionless, one hand wrapped around a cooling cup of coffee as she gazed across the sprawling sea of city lights. Every illuminated street, every towering skyscraper, every hidden alleyway existed beneath the shadow of one man.
Her father.
Adrian’s influence stretched across the city like an invisible web.
If he discovered what she was doing, everything she had fought to build would disappear overnight. He would not kill her.
Death would be merciful.
He would take away her freedom.
He would lock her behind gilded walls once more, strip away every choice she possessed, and reduce her to nothing more than a perfectly obedient heir.
The office door opened with a quiet click.
