Chapter 12 Amelia POV My hands are still shaky as Kayden drives us to our new house. Which is kind of ridiculous because we just moved to our first one two days ago, which practically got burnt. I can still see the box though, how he has asked them to deliver it carelessly like it was some kind of gift or present. I take a glance at him, his way is fixed on the road though I can see how tight his grip on the steering wheel is. His action has made me consider everything I knew about him for the last three years. Because this man, the one I met in London, is nothing like the man who saved me. The man who worked as a secretary to a publishing firm came back home at five every evening to spend time with his wife. This version here, looked like… Like a cold-hearted, revenge-seeking stranger. Immediately we get home I step out of the car. My legs almost crumpled like I was too weak just from the whole realization. “Hey be careful” he whispers as he wraps his arms around mine. I fling his hands off me almost immediately “ I can walk” A grim appears on his face “Yeah, I can clearly see that, given the fact that you almost fell” He is smiling, his eyes glittering with excitement, as if what happened just now is some normal thing. “Stop smiling. It's not funny” His smile harder “What's not funny? You are clearly weak and yet you want to pretend to be strong. Come on, Amy. I am your husband. Let me help you” I suck in a deep breath counting in my head. One, two, three before I release a slow breath, Kayden does the same thing, the smile still on his face like he knew I was counting it in my head. I glare at him “You killed someone Kayden! The man I knew, the man I married would never do that and still smile. It's like they have exchanged you for someone who now sees everything including me as some kind of revenge plan, and until I get my husband back you are not helping me!” I slam the door behind me and sit inside ignoring the cramps in my legs “Amelia!” He shouts, running after me, and I hasten my pace taking two steps at a time. Immediately, as soon as I get to the room, I drag the necklace I had been wearing off my neck, taking my shoes off and throwing it on at every angle possible, my wristwatch is next. It'sn't until I get to the wardroom that I realize this is a new house and I don't even know my new room. I turn to go but Kayden is standing in front of me, his blue eyes boring into mine with a silent plea “Just hear me out” he whispers. He takes a step closer, and I take one step away. “It had to be that way, Amelia. It is all for your protection” “You killed a man, Kayden. A whole man. And you say it is for my protection?” This man must think I am really dumb for him to believe I was protecting you in my speech. “Yes, it was. Stefan would have played two sides. I would tell him and he would tell Daniel for a much bigger amount of money needed to eliminate that” “You could have gotten him away. Don't bring him to our house and leave him to die and smile later. Gosh, I don't even recognize who you are anymore! A glint of hurt passed through his eyes. He runs his hands through his hair taking a step back. For a moment he is silent. I can tell my words affected him but I just want to know why he is acting this way, why he suddenly has so many secrets. He looks at me again, a sad smile on his face. “You know me, Amelia. I am as transparent as I can be before you. The killing, everything is for you, Amelia. All for you. You want revenge for your grandmother's death then we can't play by the rules. It can't be a clean game I know the Blackwoods better than you do, you knew Daniel died five yeTs I knew him for a while twenty-five years. They don't play a good game….” “But we are not them. We can choose not to lose ourselves like them” I interrupted him, taking his hands into mine. I said to him “We can choose to be good” He smiled, not the usual Kayden smile. A sad one. His hands cup my face gently, his thumb caressing my face. I smile back, happy that I have finally gotten my husband back. That he has understood from my perspective. Then he says “Amelia, we can't. Daniel tried to kill you thrice. He set a bomb in our house if I had not gotten you out on time you would have been burned. He killed your grandmother. The battle had been bloody long before anything happened. I know Stefan's death affected you but it's the way it would be and if you are not ready to accept it we can move back” “What do you mean move back?” “We can move back to where we came from. Forget about everything. You just need to say the word. Is that what you want?” “No” “Then you need to be prepared. There would be a scandal. Your name would be in the press, anything to weaken you and I swear by my life that I would protect you. I would die for you, I would kill for you to protect you and I would not be apologetic for that. But you need to know that I love you, Amelia. I have loved you even before you did. That won't change” The weight of what he just said settled down on me. I am a good person, believe me, I have a good heart but if I want to get revenge for my grandmother especially I would need to tighten my belt and toughen myself. I turn to him “ but on one condition” “What?” “You would tell me everything. I need to know what is happening and you would not harm anyone until I say so. Is that clear” He takes a step closer, his smile back on his face he raises his hands in mock surrender “Yes. I agree to every word you said ma” Seeing him, his hands raised in a surrender set makes me laugh. I should be angry. Hell, I should be scared. But here I am laughing at someone who left a traitor to die in a fire. His smile makes my heart race fast, the way he is smiling, waiting for me. approval. It's the reason I fell in love with him three years ago. He takes a step closer, wrapping his arms around my waist, closing every distance between us. His eyes meet mine, soft, pleading. His hands caress my face gently, and I can feel the heat pricking under my skin, every touch burning within me. I can feel his hands tracing every part of my body, my boobs, and unfortunately, I had no bra on. My n*****s are not doing any justice to me. “So, how do we celebrate this little victory of ours?” He asks quietly, placing soft kisses on my neck. “We don't…” I let out a moan pushing midway. He pulls back, staring at me. Waiting for my permission. I test my head on his own, my heart racing too fast, I grab his shirt trying my best to stay angry, but my body goes strictly against me. I slam my lips against his own, deepening the kiss with every fiber in me. My hands are all over him, his hair, his face, wrapping my arms around his neck. He gives my n****e a little squeeze, and needles of delicious pain spread through me. He lifts me, wrapping my legs around his waist, and carries me to the bed. I let go of myself, enjoying every one of his touches, every one of his skin against mine as he keeps on calling me “mine” Tomorrow will take care of itself.
