It was Lily.
"Hey, where did you go to?" Logan asked, looking at her.
Lily stood by the window, gazing outside. "I went out," she replied, her voice neutral.
Logan walked closer. "Where?" he pressed, curiosity etched on his face.
Lily turned, her expression unreadable. "I went to see someone."
Logan's eyes narrowed. "You just got here yesterday. Already making friends?"
Lily's gaze locked onto his, her eyes sparkling with a hint of mischief. She paused, her lips pursed.
"I just went out" She insisted.
"I'm beginning to know about you, Lily," Logan said, his voice low and measured. "I'm going to know about you, even if you don't tell me."
Lily's eyebrows shot up, surprised by his intensity.
Then, without a word, she turned and walked away.
Joel arrived at their place that evening, and Lily greeted him warmly.
"Welcome." She smiled at him."And thanks for yesterday".
"Don't mention" Joel smiled at her.
Logan came into the living room .He exchanged handshakes with Joel.
"Lily, can you bring Joel a drink?".He asked her.
Lily nodded and headed to the kitchen. She returned with a glass of juice and placed it on the table.
Joel smiled. "Thanks, Lily. I hope you're getting used to this place now?"
Lily replied, "Yes, I am. Thank you very much."
Joel said, "Feel free to do as you please here. I know it's not easy but with time, you'll get used to this environment soon."
Lily smiled. "Thank you."
Logan watched their exchange, his eyes narrowing slightly as he observed Joel's intense gaze.
Suddenly, Lily's face flushed, and she gave an embarrassed cough. "Excuse me," she muttered, quickly standing up.
Lily hastily walked away, leaving Joel and Logan alone in the room.
Logan's eyes remained on Joel, his expression unreadable.
When Joel was about to leave later that day,he called Lily aside.
"Hey, I heard you went out somewhere?" asked, settling into an armchair.
"Yes," Lily replied.
"Where did you go?" Joel inquired.
"I went to visit someone," Lily said.
Joel's eyes sparkled. "You know I'm your friend, right? You should consider me your friend, not just his friend alone. If you need someone to talk to or share something, I'm here. I'll listen and offer advice."
Lily smiled. "Alright, thanks, sir. "
"Don't refer to me as sir again.....My name is Joel,as you know " he said and added "As for Logan,he may seem proud and bossy, but he's kind too."
Lily chuckled slightly.
"It's the truth, Lily. Feel free to express yourself when talking to him. Don't hesitate."
"Thank you very much, I appreciate it," Lily said.
"Everything is okay, right?"
"Yes, everything is fine," Lily assured.
Joel stood up. "I just came to say hi. I'm heading home now."
"Alright, bye," Lily replied and stood up for her room .
That night, Lily settled into her cozy bedroom, the soft glow of her lamp casting a warm ambiance. As she prepared for bed, her thoughts turned to her mother, hundreds of miles away in the hospital.
She couldn't shake off the worry that had been gnawing at her since she left her mom's side to return to the mansion. The memory of her mother's frail smile and weak voice lingered.
Just as Lily was about to drift off to sleep, she reached for her phone and dialed Jessica's number.
"Hey, Lily!" Jessica answered, her voice warm and reassuring.
"Hey, Jess! I was just thinking about mom... how's she doing?" Lily asked, concern etched in her voice.
"Mom's doing great! The doctors are optimistic," Jessica shared.
Lily's heart swelled with relief. "That's amazing news! I'm so happy to hear that."
Jessica's tone turned sympathetic. "How are you doing, Lily?"
Lily's voice trembled. "I'm fine. I just wish I could be there for mum."
"I know, Lily. But you're doing what's best for us .Mom understands," Jessica reassured.
Lily took a deep breath. "Thanks, Jess. Just talking to you makes me feel better."
"Anytime, Lily. That's what sisters are for," Jessica said with a smile.
"I promise to visit mom soon, Jess. Give her my love," Lily said.
"Will do, Lily. Take care of yourself, okay?" Jessica replied.
As they wrapped up their conversation, Lily felt a sense of comfort wash over her. Knowing her mom was recovering brought her joy.
She drifted off to sleep, her heart lighter, with thoughts of her mother's impending recovery and Jessica's unwavering support.
Logan arrived home from work the next day accompanied by a stunning woman with piercing green eyes and raven-black hair. Her sleek black dress hugged her curves, and her heels clicked against the marble floor.
"Lily, I don't want to be disturbed," Logan instructed, his voice firm but polite. "This is a crucial business meeting."
Lily nodded, curiosity piqued. She watched as Logan gestured for the woman to precede him into the study.
The woman's confident stride and poised demeanor commanded attention. Her perfume wafted through the air, leaving a subtle scent of lavender and vanilla.
As Logan followed her into the study, he closed the door behind them. The soft click of the door latch signaled the start of their private meeting.
Inside the study, Logan offered the woman a seat in the plush leather armchair. He walked around his mahogany desk, his eyes locked on hers.
"Can I offer you a drink, Ms. Thompson?" Logan asked, his voice smooth.
"Scotch, please," she replied, her voice husky.
Logan poured two glasses, handing one to Ms. Thompson. They sipped their drinks in silence, their eyes engaging in a silent understanding.
Lily, meanwhile, continued dusting the living room, her ears straining to catch any muffled sounds from the study. The silence was punctuated only by occasional murmurs and the soft rustle of papers.
Forty-five minutes passed before Logan emerged with Ms. Thompson, her expression satisfied.
"Thank you, Mr Mitchell," she said, extending her hand.
Logan shook it firmly. "The pleasure's mine, Ms. Thompson. Our partnership will be fruitful, I assure you."
As Ms. Thompson left, Lily caught a glimpse of her sleek black sedan waiting outside.
Who was she?, and what business meeting were they discussing about?
