Chapter 5

1005 Words
It was a Saturday evening, about a week later. Evelyn Mitchell, Logan's mom, arrived at the house, dressed in a stunning champagne-colored maxi dress, paired with elegant pearl jewelry and carrying a designer handbag. As she entered, Logan, seated in the sitting room, watching TV, stood up and warmly greeted her. "Hi, Mom! You look amazing." Evelyn smiled, handing Logan a gift bag. "I brought something for you, dear." Logan took the bag, intrigued. "Thanks, Mom." Evelyn turned to Lily, who was standing nearby. "Lily, dear, could you get me a cup of tea and some cookies ?" Lily curtsied. "Okay, ma." Evelyn added, "And make sure the tea is Earl Grey, with a slice of lemon." Lily nodded. "Yes, ma. Right away." "Thank you, dear," Evelyn said. Lily hurried to the kitchen, leaving Evelyn and Logan to exchange pleasantries. After she left, Evelyn leaned forward, her expression serious. "Logan, what do you think about her?" "Who?" Logan asked her. "Lily, of course. Do you think she's okay as your maid". Evelyn's eyes narrowed slightly. "This one......... she's bad at everything she does. And she keeps getting on my nerves. I've been wanting to report her to you, thank God you came today." "You have to endure for the main time, Logan. That's why I'm here. As you know, we discussed you and Charlotte last time." Logan sighed. "Mom, I've told you multiple times-there's nothing between Charlotte and me. No relationship, nothing." Evelyn's voice remained calm. "Logan, this isn't something you can decide alone. Your future, your family's legacy...it's not just about your feelings." Logan's tone turned firm. "Mom, I can't force myself into something I don't want. I'm not a child; I can make my own decisions. You've always pushed me to do things I don't want including having a maid, but I'm an adult now." Evelyn's smile hinted at amusement. "Do you think you're mature enough to make decisions, Logan?" Logan's eyes narrowed. "Why do you say that? Don't you think I'm mature enough?" Evelyn leaned back. "You think you are, but there are many reasons to doubt that. You're not even ready to get married, let alone to the right person. That's why I need to help you find someone suitable." Logan's face reddened. "My personal life is none of your business, Mom. And what's with this sudden urgency?" Evelyn's gaze turned stern. "You need stability, and Charlotte provides that. You think you're mature enough, but you don't even have anyone special in your life, Logan. No one you love." Logan's expression turned defiant. "That's not true, Mom. I do have someone I love." Evelyn's eyes widened in surprise. "Really? And who might that be?" Logan's voice filled with conviction. "Someone who makes me happy, someone I care deeply for." Evelyn's curiosity piqued. "Why didn't you tell me about this person? Why keep it a secret?" Logan shrugged. "You never listened, Mom. You always pushed Charlotte on me." Evelyn leaned forward, her tone softening. "I wanted the best for you, Logan. Charlotte's family background and social standing-" Logan interrupted, "That's not what matters, Mom. Love is what matters." Evelyn smiled, a hint of surprise still on her face. "Okay, Logan. Tell me about this person you love." Logan's eyes sparkled. "You'll meet her soon," Evelyn's curiosity piqued, she leaned in closer. "Who is this person, Logan? Someone I know?" Logan hesitated, his eyes darting around the room before meeting Evelyn's gaze. "You'll find out soon enough, Mom." Evelyn's voice turned stern. "Logan, I want to know now. Who is this person you claim to love?" Logan's voice remained steady. "Someone who understands me, supports me, and loves me for who I am." Evelyn's eyes narrowed. "Is it someone from work? A friend?" Logan's lips curled into a slight smile. "You'll just have to wait and see, Mom." Just as Evelyn finished speaking, Lily entered the room with a tray of refreshments. She set the tray down on the coffee table and turned to leave. Logan swiftly stood up, his eyes locked onto Lily's. He reached out, gently grasping her arm, and drew her back. "Lily," he whispered, his voice low and husky. Before she could react, Logan's lips descended onto hers in a deep, affectionate kiss. Lily's heart skipped a bit as Logan's hands cradled her face, his thumbs tracing her jawline. His mouth claimed hers , the kiss deepening into a passionate, all-consuming embrace. Lily's mind reeled, her thoughts scattering like leaves in the wind. She tried to pull back, but Logan's arms enveloped her, holding her close. His lips left hers, trailing kisses along her neck. Evelyn's jaw dropped, shock etched on her face. "Logan! What are you doing?" Logan broke the kiss, his eyes still locked onto Lily's. "I'm showing you, Mom, that I've found someone I love." Evelyn's expression transformed from shock to stunned silence. Logan took a deep breath and began, his voice filled with conviction. "Mom, I want to tell you something important. This is the person I love," he said, gazing at Lily. "I care deeply about her, and she cares deeply about me too. I love her more than words can express." Logan's mother's eyes widened in surprise, her expression unreadable. Logan's determination hardened. "I know it may come as a surprise, but I've never felt this way about anyone before. Lily is the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. I want her to be my supporter and helper. I want her to be the mother of my unborn babies ". Logan's eyes never left Lily's face. "I know it may shock you, but my feelings for Lily are genuine. I want to build a life with her." Evelyn's eyes were wide open in shock. It was a joke, right?. It had to definitely be a joke . How could it be possible?, Logan was just telling her few minutes ago that he wasn't okay with her being his maid so how could he now claim he loves her?.
