Chapter 5Daniel took another deep breath as the sleek elevator doors in Paulo’s building closed. The numbers climbed toward the fashionable apartment. Very little of the lobby and interior had changed over the years, except for the updating of the well-appointed art. Even the doorman stood with the same combination of suspicion and feigned interest he held years ago. The doors dinged as the only other couple stepped out of the elevator. Daniel closed his eyes as the cab continued its ascension.
“Hey, you okay?” Kar asked for the third time in ten minutes. Daniel nodded.
