Chapter Five

2447 Words
A day before her father was killed, nineteen-year-old Abbigail Snow was stuck in a room guarded by the same two men who have been there since day one, William walked in holding a plate of food. By this time not only has her leg healed, but she had also gotten closer to William. But when he and her mother were gone, Thomas would beat her and yell. He told her to tell her mother she was just 'roughhousing'. William had told her how her sister had been able to get help and that he would help her escape one day that week and he did so. As he set the plate down he handed her a note and a few bobby pins from her mother's kit, before he left he patted her head and she got up hugging him. "Why don't you come with me, Willy? Why stay with them? We can find Maris and tell her-" William cut her off and spoke with the same soft tone he always does. "You know why, I'll give you away easily if I go with you I'm not small or short Pip." Abby punched William's arm and laughed, as he left she opened the note. Pip, I'm putting the sleeping pills in both of their drinks tonight. Please run as soon as I unlock the door, I packed you a bag of clothes and some money find your sister, and stop them, I don't want to be forced to help kill someone again. Don't tell Maris who I am when you find her, just tell her she will find out in due time. Stay safe, I'll find you if anything goes wrong. She wiped her eyes and shoved the note in her bra for safekeeping. A few hours had passed when Abby finally heard the click of the lock, as soon as she heard this she immediately put her hair up using the bobby pins William left for her. She opened the door to find the backpack, Abby picked it up and ran as fast as she could out the door and down the street. "Huh?? Where am I?" She looked around noticing the tall buildings, the smell of pizza and hotdogs were overwhelming, there was a woman walking past, she looked to be in her sixties, she had noticed Abby looking around. Abby's clothes were dirty and her hair was in a mess of a bun. The woman smiled and walked over to her holding out her hand. "Come with me hun, I make the best spaghetti in New York. Let me text my nephew and ask him to pick up the ingredients for it." Abby took her hand and the woman wrapped her arm around her after texting her nephew, she had flinched a little before letting the woman do that. "Tell me, dear, what's your name? What you're doing in New York?" Abby stayed quiet for a few minutes unsure as to if she could trust her or not. She was alone, scared, and hungry her mother didn't allow her to eat much. "My name is Anna Rosasco, but you can call me Auntie Rosa. I can tell you're scared, so I will wait until you are ready to talk hun." They walked up to a large house, larger than the one she, her mother, her father, and her sister lived in before the thing happened. When Auntie Rosa unlocked the door she showed Abby where the bathroom was. "You can take a shower and meet me out in the living room, I wanna talk to you. Oh, I'll be right back." Auntie Rosa walked out a returned a few minutes later hold some mint shampoo and conditioner, she smiled and sat them down next to Abby closing the door. When Auntie Rosa came back her nephew, Husband, and daughter were back. "Auntie Rosa! I got the ingredients, why are we having spaghetti tonight? It's not Monday again is it?" She shushed her nephew and asked them all to go to the patio so they can talk freely. "No DiDi, today is not Monday. We have a guest, she looked pretty bad out there so I invited her for some food, I'm giving her the guest room for the time being. She hasn't told me her name and she flinches so please watch how approach her, at the moment she is taking a shower. Nina, can you please try to be nice to her? I know you-" Nina, a neon-green-haired girl around Abby's age cut her mother off real quick. "It's no problem Mom after dinner I'll show her to the room." At that moment Ashley came out and looked around sitting on the couch, she was now wearing a grey hoodie that she stole from William and a pair of black sweatpants. DiDi looked over and his jaw dropped as she dried off her hair, the rest of the room busted out laughing as Nina waved her hand in front of him. "DiDi, close your mouth, you might sallow a fly. What's up with you? You've never liked anyone." Nina looked at her Mom as she spoke. "I told her I wanted to speak to her, I would also like to introduce her to you all. What do you say, Reed? Wanna ask her to stay? She has nowhere else to go." Reed was her husband, he smiled and shook his head. "Of course my mother would turn in her grave if I didn't say yes. We were always taught when it comes to helping others. no matter who we are or where we are at we have to, so let's all go back in there." The rest agreed and went back inside, Abby had about three hundred dollars in her hand as they did so. "Here Auntie Rosa, there are about three hundred dollars there. Please don't tell anyone I'm-" Auntie Rosa placed her hand on her shoulder and sat down next to her as Abby was talking. "Are you willing to tell us your name? This is my nephew Dimitri and my daughter Nina, over there are their friends and this is my husband Reed." She looked up and there stood a tall black-haired guy around her age, his eyes were a beautiful shade of blue which made Abby blush a bit. Dimitri and Nina both tried to shake her hand but she flinched and covered her head with her arms. "Hey, Hey, Hey relax your safe here I promise. Whatever happened to you isn't gonna happen here I assure you." Auntie Rosa wrapped her arms around Abby reminding her of Maris and the way she used to comfort her, this caused her to start crying uncontrollably. Auntie Rosa told the few in the room to go get started on dinner as she calmed Abby down, once she calmed down Auntie Rosa let go of her and scooted over on the couch waiting for Abby to talk. "My name is Abbigail, Abbigail Snow. I'm nineteen and I was kidnapped when I was thirteen by my mother and two men. My sister was with me on the first day until I told her to escape, I haven't been able to escape till today, one of the men beat me and scold me after, the other one helped me escape actually. I thank you for your kindness, if I can stay here for a while and hide that would mean a lot, I have over five hundred dollars I can pay rent-" Auntie Rosa was now hugging Abby tightly as her hand was rubbing her hair, the others were listening as well. "You can stay for free hun, I have a wig you can use for tomorrow. Nina, Dimitri! Come here please I need a favor from you two." They slowly walked into the living room, Nina had a slightly sad look on her face as she sat next to Abby, DiDi sat in a chair across from Abby, shocked. "Abby, I am so sorry they did that to you. Do you know where your sister is?" Abby stayed quiet as Nina spoke, she smiled and wiped her tears away. "No, I don't know where she is yet, her name is Maris," She let out a tiny gasp for air as the room felt like it was getting smaller, Auntie Rosa wrapped in another tight hug which helped her breathe. For the first time in six years, she felt safe, with William there was only so much he could do to protect her. "Okay, back to what I needed from you two and your friends over there. I need you guys to go out with Abby, she needs a haircut and new clothes also Nina help her pick out some makeup, we have a meeting soon." Nina smiled and nodded, DiDi looked at Auntie Rosa confused. "Why do you need me?" Nina walked over and smacked the back of Dimitri's head smiling, she placed her arm on his head as he smacked it away. "Because in case her mother and that man recognize her she'll need all the help she can get." Dimitri and Nina were play-fighting at this point making Abby let out a loud laugh. "Ok, I'm going to finish dinner, Abby dear make yourself at home please." Auntie Rosa got up and walked to the kitchen. That night was like no other, Abby was shown to her room she had her own bed!! A TV in her room and actual bedsheets and blankets that were warm! However, it didn't stop her from having a bad night with nightmares back and forth about not being able to find her sister or finding out she died, DiDi would be the only one to hear her crying to herself when she woke up so he walked in and sat next to her. "Come here Abby, I know what it's like to have bad nights. Hugging something always helps me, we don't have big enough pillows or any stuffed animals so I'm the next best thing, I guess?" He rubbed the back of his neck looking in the doorway when he felt arms around him, Dimitri looked down to see Abby hugging him, she was now fast asleep. He laid back to make sure they were both comfortable, as he laid there, he started petting her hair softly. The next morning Abby woke up and looked around for DiDi, he had woken up early and covered her up so she got up and took a shower. Abby wore a white t-shirt with the hoodie from last night, a light blue skirt, and the blonde wig that Auntie Rosa had given her for the time being. Once breakfast was over, the three of them went out, Abby realized that there was a black SUV in the driveway that wasn't there last night, as the group walked over two men with black suits and sunglasses when they reached the car the two men opened the doors of the car and they all got in and was really cozy in there surprisingly enough. Abby and Dimitri got stuck next to each other, and when he looked over at her, his heart would begin to beat; this was very new to him. Dimitri was always a loner growing up, it was his sister Diana who had most of the friends; while he was the one who got into fights. "So, how long were you stuck at that place?" Dimitri wanted to hit himself in the back of the head for what came out of his mouth, he looked over at Abby concerned about what her reaction would be. "Six years just about, if Willy didn't help me escape, it would've been till death. He was the only good thing there, when my mom was gone he protected me from his brother, I still have the note he gave me yesterday before I left." Abby took out the paper that William had used to tell her about what he was gonna do and she read it aloud for Dimitri to hear. "So you and this William dude must be close, huh?" DiDi stated with a touch of jealousy in his voice, Abby looked over at him as she put the paper away letting out a small laugh. "You have no idea, he is nothing like Ava or Thomas what-so-ever. I feel bad that he was dragged into this, no one should be forced to do anything they don't wanna do. I hope he's ok, if they found out he did that he'll be hurt or worse." She stared out the window and continued talking, "Willy told me how my sister got help, and how she beat Tom's ass real good. Tom came back that night with a pretty deep cut on his cheek, he still has a scar, and it serves him right! When Willy was younger Tom had gotten ahold of a knife and slashed his eye because he took Tom's crayon box." She messed with her thumbs as she stopped a took a breather. "I'm sure he is fine Abby, anyway we are going to get you a haircut first on the list Auntie Rosa gave me. After we do that it's off to the clothes and makeup, oh and she said we can have dinner out so we are good with that. Also, we need to get you a phone, and I have a small surprise for you tomorrow. Do you have a favorite food? Favorite color?" Abby sat there shocked, it had been forever since someone wanted to know something about her and the person next to her is not only unbearably hot but really sweet. He helped her through the night, she then realized that she hadn't thanked him for last night. "Hey Dimitri, thanks for what you did. I owe you tons!" She smiled and answered his questions, "Also my favorite food is chicken alfredo while my favorite color is blue! What about you?" She fixed her wig as she listened to the sounds around her something she did back at the house when she was alone. "Favorite food is anything Auntie Rosa makes duh, and my favorite color is blue as well." As they finished talking the driver told them they were at the stylist the Rosasco family went to. Abby woke Nina up and they got out walking to the door, Abby saw a face she never thought she would see again. Immediately tears started streaming down her face as both DiDi and Nina looked in the same direction she was, Abby opened the door and screamed at the top of her lungs.
