Chapter 5: Girl talk and Questions

2750 Words
Lil's POV While walking up to her room, she pointed out a small library and an office on the first floor. The second floor had a theater room, 2 offices and 3 guest rooms, and at the end of the hall was her room. It had soft green walls with white furniture throughout the room. The bedsheets and curtains were light blue with a silver accent. After walking into the room, on the left was a huge window that covered the wall and a couch near it facing a TV, and on the right were two doors. “So that door right next to you is the closet and the bathroom is the other one,” Jazz said, pointing to the other door. “I made room for you to put your things in these two drawers of the dresser.” I walked over to the dresser. “Thanks.” Jazz passed me my bags and I started putting things from my bags into the two drawers then set some of my bathroom stuff on the counter in the bathroom. “Dang girl I’m jealous you have a nice big tub with jets and a nice big shower also.” “Yeah, the Blackwells like finer things, so all the rooms are decked out.” “It shows. This house has a lot of rooms and if each room looks like this one, then these rooms look like fancy hotel rooms.” “Yeah, I always feel spoiled when I come over here.” “What do they even do for a living?” “Ummmm…” Jazz got nervous. “They’re not the mafia, are they?” I was worried now. “NO! Gosh no, they work for the government and run a family business as well.” Jazz rushed out fast. “Oh okay. You had me worried I was staying in a house of criminals.” “No criminals here,” Jazz stated. “Why don’t we get changed and head down to the pool and continue to catch up.” “That’s a good idea.” “Oh, one more thing though. They do have one house rule.” “Okay, what is the rule?” “The third floor is off limits.” “Okay, easy enough rule. It’s an odd rule, but I will not go to the third floor.” “Okay good.” Jazz sighed. “On another note, which bikini should I wear?” She ran over to the other dress that was in between the closet and the bathroom door. She opened a draw and pulled out two bikinis. “Pink or Blue?” “Stick with your signature color girl.” “Your right pink it is.” She said happily, going into the bathroom to change. “What color did you bring, red or black?” “I actually threw out the black. So now I have two new ones that I brought over.” “What color?” “Silver and purple with accents of black in it too, and the other one is a deep wine color.” I reached into the bag and held it up. “See” She poked her head out. “Oh, that is super cute. I love how it has swirls of light purple and silver while having black outlining the top and bottom. Super cute, that one may be the new favorite,” she said, disappearing back into the bathroom. I laughed, “Well, you can love the new one. I still prefer the red one.” “We didn’t you bring the red then?” “It was dirty.” She walked out of the bathroom in her very pink bikini and white cover “I should have guessed. Well, go get changed so we can go down.” She said, shooing me to the bathroom. “You can head down. I will be down in a minute.” “You won’t get lost?” “I think I can get down there just fine.” I went into the bathroom but came back out. “Don’t forget to grab some beach or pool towels.” “I don’t know where they keep them,” Jazz said, grabbing her sunglasses and putting them on her head. “I will find Ms. Sally and ask you. Head outside to get some music playing and the booze ready. That way we can start relaxing, catching up and having fun the moment I get outside.” “Done, don’t take too long,” Jazz said, walking out of the bedroom. I closed the bathroom door and got changed. When I walked out of the bathroom, I went over to my bag and grabbed the black cover that tied in the front. Then I went over to my purse that was on the couch and grabbed my sunglasses and put them on my head. “Okay, time to find Ms. Sally.” I said to myself, and headed out of the bedroom, and headed downstairs. I didn’t know where she would be, so I started walking around trying to find her. After checking the office and library, I tried the kitchen and found her sitting in the little nook drinking a cup of coffee. “Hi Ms. Sally.” “Hello sweetheart, do you need something?” “Actually, yes, I wanted to grab some pool or beach towels for us. Do you know where I can find those?” “I don’t think I have ever seen a pool towel, but if they have any, you can ask Luka where they are. He would know.” “Oh. Okay, where is he then?” “He is up in his room. It’s on the third floor.” “Jazz said that floor was off limits.” “It is, but I think in this instance it would be okay.” “You sure?” “Yes, I am sure, dear. His room has a blueish-silver-colored door.” “Okay thank you.” “Of course. Do make sure you knock first.” I smiled at Ms. Sally and walked out of the kitchen back to the stairs and climbed up to the third floor. The first thing I noticed about this floor was every door was painted a different color. On the left side of the staircase was a dark red door, a forest green door and 2 white doors at the end of the hallway. To the right was a black door that had some blue markings on it which, personally, I thought was really cool, a silver, white and gold door, a light blue-silver door, a dark blue door and 2 white doors. I walked up to the blue-silver door and knocked on it. Knock, knock, knock “Come in” came from inside. I slowly opened the door. “Hi”, I waved with a smile, stepping into his room. “Do you need something?” His room was super spacious and was in different shades of gray and silver with some blue here and there. I was nervous for some reason about being in his room, and I wasn’t sure why I had been in guys' rooms before. Hell, I live with two, and yet I was nervous. “Yeah, I was looking for some beach or pool towels. I asked Ms. Sally, and she didn’t know and suggested I come ask you. I know I am not supposed to be up here, but Ms. Sally said it would be okay if I was up here to ask you about something.” I rushed out. Walking further into the room. He smiled. “Well, she is right. I don’t mind you being up here. Just don’t come up here if the others are here, okay.” “Okay”, I smiled back. “I will show you where to find the towels if you answer some questions for me.” He grinned at me. “Seriously?” I asked, walking over to the couch he was sitting on near a big window with a little table in front of it. I noticed he had a pencil and sketchbook in his lap. “Yes, seriously.” “Why?” “Well, I have questions, and you intrigue me,” he said, motioning for me to sit on the couch. I plopped down on the couch. “Okay, what questions do you have?” I got comfortable on the couch sitting across from him. “What do you do for work? “I work in the archives at my job.” Had to be careful about the answers I give when it comes to my job. Thankfully, this part is true, it’s just not the whole truth. “Do you like your job?” “Of course, if I didn’t like doing it, I would leave the company. Besides, I teach people as well in different departments.” This was also true, but not the whole truth. Why does he care about my job? “Glad you like what you do. Do you have any siblings? I noticed how you weren’t bothered by Zach and Alice and how they talked and acted with one another.” “Yes, I have a younger sibling. My sister is 5 years younger than me. I also consider my roommate, Drake, as a brother, since he is always keeping an eye on me and being protective and all.” I told him. Thank goodness he isn’t asking about my job anymore. “Do you have any siblings?” “Yes, I have several siblings. We lost our parents at a young age, so my older brother and I raised our two younger siblings,” he said, looking down at the sketch pad for a moment, seeming lost in thought. “Oh. I’m so sorry for your loss. I didn’t mean to ask a personal question.” I felt bad for bringing something emotional and troubling. My own past wasn’t exactly the best and I didn’t like talking about it, so I could imagine he didn’t like talking about his either. “It’s okay you didn’t know, and I have come to terms with what happened,” he said with a tight-lipped smile. “Well, it’s good that you have come to terms with it. I am still working on that part myself,” I said, messing with my fingernails, not wanting to look up at him. I have no idea why I admitted that to him. I never tell anyone about my personal life, especially not my past, but I found talking and opening up to him so easy. 'Why does this man bring so many different emotions and feelings out of me?' I thought. “Hey”, he pushed my leg with his foot. I looked up “What?” “Can I ask you another question?” “Sure” “It's personal.” He warned me. I motioned for him to go ahead and ask. “Are you single?” “Yes, but I am not exactly looking to date or anything.” I answered him honestly. Not sure why he wanted to know, but I don’t mind talking about my relationship status with others. “Interesting.” He got up, setting his sketch pad and pencil on the little table in front of the couch. “The towels are in a hall closet on the second floor,” he said, walking away. I looked at his sketch when I stood up and was blown away by what was on it. “Did you sketch this?” I asked him while picking up the sketch pad. It was a picture of a guy and girl holding hands walking in what looked to be a mystical forest that had birds, butterflies and fairies flying over their heads. It was so sweet looking and simple. No words to describe how amazing it looked. “Yeah, I sketched it today. I was about to start another one when you came in.” I looked up and jumped, a little shocked that he was right next to me. “You drew this today? How there is so much detail to it, there is no way you drew this today.” I state not believing him. “I really drew it today. Something this small normally takes me about 3-4 hours max,” he stated. I looked up at him and saw that he didn’t see what I did, “Well, if you can draw something like this in that short amount of time, you are very talented. You ever think about showing your drawings in a gallery?” I asked, looking up at him. He looked me in the eye. “I draw for fun, not for money or fame.” We seemed to both get lost in each other’s eyes. “Do you have other drawings? “Yes” “Can I see them.” “I’m pretty sure Jasmine is wondering where you are.” “Your right.” I cleared my throat. “So about those towels.” I could feel the heat of my cheeks turning red. I had completely forgotten about Jazz waiting for me. Hopefully she hadn't started drinking already, or I was going to have to take care of her all night. “Yeah, this way.” He motioned for the door. I set the sketchbook back down on the table and followed him out of his room and down to the second floor. He turned toward the home theater room and over to a small white door. He opened it, and it was a good side hall closet. He reached in and handed me a purple and red towel. I smiled and laughed. “What is so funny?” he asked, closing the door. “Well, you handed me two towels, and they are both my favorite colors.” I looked up at him to find a shocked expression on his face. “I handed you your favorite colors?” “Yep! That’s why I was laughing. I found it funny how you just grabbed the towels, and they just happened to be my favorite colors.” “Well, I actually grabbed the purple since you are wearing a purple bikini. By the way, you look amazing in that color.” He winked at me. “I just grabbed the red because it was on top of the purple.” “Well, thank you for the compliment and the towels.” I turned around, trying not to blush like an i***t. “You’re welcome,” he said as I headed down the stairs. “Oh, one more thing, can you keep an eye on how much she drinks? She has been drinking a lot since she came home from college. I am worried about her,” he said. I turned around to look at him and saw that he really did look worried. “Well, if she is drinking a lot it either has something to do with school, a guy or life stuff knowing her. I will keep an eye on her though.” “Thank you.” I walked the rest of the way down the stairs and out the door to the patio in the living room. “There you are. I was about to come hunt you down,” Jazz said, throwing her hands in the air. “Sorry I had to hunt down the towels,” I said, handing her a towel and unfolding mine on a chair next to her. I noticed the pitcher she had was not full. “Girl, how much have you had to drink already?” “I have had one full cup.” She grabbed a cup that was half full. “And this one, that's it.” I rolled my eyes at her. “Well, let me catch up.” I poured some in the empty glass on the table and downed it. Then I refilled it and drank half of it. “WOW! Go girl!” Jazz shouted at me, chugging the drinks. “Okay, all caught up. Now let’s get to having some fun. I haven’t seen you in a long time, so there is a lot to catch up on.” We both took our swimsuit covers off and put our sunglasses on and got into the pool.
