📖 Untamed Secrets Chapter 13 – Boundaries on Fire The morning after the rooftop scandal, Serena walked into Hale Ventures with her head held high — but her chest felt like a drum being played from the inside. Everyone was looking. Not openly. Never openly. But she felt the stares grazing her skin, whispers darting like shadows behind manicured hands. It wasn’t just Vanessa this time. The gossip had spread like perfume in the air: Jeremy Hale had been caught with someone. And the someone was her. Serena smoothed her black skirt and walked toward her desk. Her hands wanted to tremble, but she forced stillness into her body the way Jeremy always did in front of a crowd. She’d learned from him. Learned how to wear armor even when her heart was bare. The elevator chimed. Jeremy stepped out. Dark suit, darker eyes, not a trace of hesitation. He looked at her — just a fraction too long. Not enough for HR to file a complaint. But enough to make her pulse race. “Serena,” he said, voice clipped, boss-like. “My office. Now.” And just like that, the rumors flared hotter. ⸻ The blinds were already drawn when she entered his office. Jeremy shut the door, the lock clicking like a gun being c****d. “You let Eli bait you yesterday,” he said, circling behind his desk. “That cannot happen again.” Her mouth fell open. “I let Eli—? Jeremy, are you insane? He was harassing me in front of half the company!” “You gave him power when you walked out with him. You don’t understand how this game works—” “No,” she cut him off, slamming her hands on his desk. “You don’t understand. I’m not your chess piece. I’m not here to move quietly while you play puppet master.” His jaw flexed. His eyes burned. He stood — slow, deliberate — until he was right in front of her. “You think I’m trying to control you?” he whispered. “Aren’t you?” For a moment, silence. Thick. Electric. Then Jeremy reached out, catching her chin between his fingers, tilting her face up. His touch was iron and fire all at once. “I’m trying to protect you, Serena. Because if they smell blood, they’ll devour you. And I…” His voice dropped, raw. “…I won’t survive watching that happen.” Her heart twisted. She wanted to believe him. She wanted to hate him. Both at once. “You’re still my boss,” she said softly. His eyes flicked to her lips. “Right now, I don’t give a damn.” And then his mouth was on hers. This kiss wasn’t frantic like before. It was deep. Claiming. A slow fire that spread through her until her knees weakened. He lifted her onto the desk in one motion, papers scattering to the floor. His hands slid up her thighs, pushing her skirt higher, his breath hot against her ear. “You’re mine,” he murmured, fingers teasing the edge of her panties. “Jeremy—” “Say it.” She gasped as his hand slipped inside, stroking her slowly, deliberately. Her back arched, lips parting in a moan she couldn’t hold back. “You’re mine,” he demanded again, his voice gravel and heat. Her pride warred with her body. Her body won. “Yes,” she whispered. “Yours.” His mouth crashed back onto hers. His other hand gripped her hip as he entered her, hard and fast, no pretense of restraint. She clutched at his shoulders, biting back screams as he moved inside her, desk creaking beneath them. Every thrust was punishment. Every kiss, a confession he refused to speak out loud. She broke first, shattering around him with a cry that echoed against glass walls. He followed, groaning her name into her mouth, like it was the only prayer he knew. When it was over, he held her against his chest, both of them shaking. “You destroy me,” he whispered into her hair. Her eyes stung. “And you ruin me.” ⸻ The knock came sharp. “Mr. Hale?” Vanessa’s voice. Sweet, poisoned honey. “The board meeting starts in five.” Jeremy’s eyes met Serena’s. No panic. Just cold calculation sliding back into place. “Go,” he whispered. “Use the back exit.” Her body still trembling, Serena smoothed her skirt, grabbed her tablet, and slipped out the hidden door. But in the mirrored wall of the hallway, she saw her reflection — flushed lips, wild hair. And behind her… Vanessa watching. Smiling. Like she had caught everything. ⸻ The boardroom was a theater that afternoon. Vanessa sat three seats away, looking angelic as ever, her pen gliding across paper. But her gaze flicked to Serena again and again. Knowing. Jeremy presented quarterly results with his usual brilliance. The CEO clapped him on the back. Investors nodded. But Serena barely heard. Her chest burned with dread. Because secrets were never safe. Not in this company. Not in this city. And for the first time, Serena realized— Jeremy wasn’t the only one who could ruin her. ⸻ That night, her phone buzzed with a text from an unknown number: You looked beautiful today. He won’t protect you forever. Serena’s blood ran cold. She stared at the screen, pulse pounding, and knew— The real dangerous game had just begun.
