As Derek led Lisa to his house, he waited for an answer that didn't materialize. The last time he asked her to stay over, it didn't end too well. Yet he wanted—no needed—her to spend the night. Adjusting his hold, he slid an arm around her shoulders as they walked quietly toward his three bedroom home. As they approached the stairs leading to his house, he released her. Her sandals slapped the wooden steps as she climbed and then waited for him to follow. Leading the way to the door, he fished out his house key from his jeans.
