Chapter Two

1018 Words
Rose excitedly looked through the peephole of the door. She already knew who it was behind the door, but she couldn't help but take a sneak look at him. For the past few days since Lisa has been discharged from the hospital, Dr. Michael Donovan has always dropped by to say hello. She quickly adjusted her hair again, applied some lip gloss, ensuring she looked good before she opened the door. Dr. Michael Donovan had a cute smile plastered on his face as soon as he came face to face with Rose. She wasn't looking bad, he thought to himself as he let his gaze roam around her. She had a pink blouse on with a denim bum short which showed her legs. It was the first time he was seeing her in something short. He caught himself staring as he tried to reply to her greeting. Rose cheeks turned red as she caught him staring at her legs. She also couldn't help but notice the beautiful bunch of rose flowers he held. She blushed lightly again. She can't believe he got her flowers. Does Michael like her? Oh...she would fly to the moon and back if that was the case. “Good afternoon Rose. You're looking really good in that dress". He finally said. “Thank you”. She says with a cute smile lighting up on her face. “Those flowers are beautiful too, really nice of you". She added eagerly. “Hope Lisa will like it? They're for her". He said simply, unaware of how Rose's heart broke to pieces on hearing that. The cute smile she had on quickly disappeared replaced with disappointment. "Is everything okay?" Michael quickly asked noticing the change in her countenance. “Yes, sure". She quickly feigned a smile, “Why don't you come in. Lisa will be happy to see you". He nods in agreement and steps inside the apartment. “She's in her bedroom". Rose tells him briefly, and walks away. Michael was confused. He couldn't understand the change in Rose's countenance , one minute she was all smiles and the next she was gloomy. Lisa Summers stood by the window in her bedroom staring at nothing in particular. She was lost in her thoughts as silent tears seeps down from her eyes. Every time she thought about Peter, the harder it got to believe he was actually gone. Michael knocked quietly on her door, but got no response. He tried again and again, but still nothing. Worried, he opens the door and peeped through. Then he saw her. “Lisa..." He called calmly. But she didn't respond. He walks in to meet her where she stood. “Lisa". He calls out again, this time getting her attention with his hand on her shoulder. She turns around immediately with shock. She hadn't known she was no longer alone. “Sorry, I didn't mean to startle you". He quickly apologized, seeing how shocked she was by his presence. “Were you crying?" Michael asked with concern laced in his voice as he saw the tears in her eyes. Lisa becoming conscious of her environment quickly wipes off her eyes. “I'm fine, thank you doctor". She says quickly, walking away from him and going to sit on the bed. “I didn't hear you come in". Michael joins her to sit on the bed. “I knocked several times" “I'm sorry". She said softly, her sweet voice teasing his senses. Even with teary eyes and no make up. Lisa Summers was a gorgeous looking lady. “It's fine". He hands her the flowers. “I got you these". Lisa smiles, and his heart beat increases automatically. “Thanks, they're beautiful". “Not close to you". He teases, looking at her to see her reaction. Lisa looks up to meet his eyes. Her gaze was infectious, he couldn't help but stare back. But her face snapped back to gloomy mode. “Where did the smile go?" He asked teasingly trying to get her to smile again. “I can't do this Michael, I don't think I am strong enough". She resumes her crying instead. “Lisa, don't cry. I know it is still too fresh, but time heals everything". He said reassuringly, reaching to wipe the tears on her face. The contact causing goosebumps on his skin. “I wish I had gone with him".She said taking his hand off her face. Michael winced quietly, she obviously wasn't comfortable with him touching her. “Don't say that, I am sure wherever he is, he is glad you made it". “But why would life throw such a horrible fate at me?" She continued, and began crying again. “Life is full of surprises, both good and bad. We never know what is in store for us. We just live through it". “I don't think I can live through this one". She says adamantly, wiping her eyes by herself this time. “You can, and you will". He says reassuringly, as he takes her hands in his. “I will be with you every step of the way". He added leaning towards her, their face so close to each other, they could feel each others breath, as his hands held hers tenderly. Rose walks in unannounced, and sees them like that. They quickly let go of each other's hands, and sit up on noticing her. “Sorry, I hope I am not interrupting anything?" She asked, eyeballing them both, her face red with jealousy. They've been in the bedroom together for too long, Rose grew curious and wanted to know what they were discussing, but rather caught them in a questioning position. “No, nothing at all, Doctor Michael was about leaving". Lisa says suddenly, and Michael looks at her with shock, but she looks anywhere but at him. Was she chasing him out? He thought within himself sadly. “Yeah, I should take my leave". He agrees, as he reaches to squeeze Lisa's hand gently.“Hang in there". Then he gets up and leaves the room.
