In the evening, as he wrapped up his work, Derek decided to give Lisa a call. He needed to check in on her and share the news about the house, even if Rose had requested otherwise, Ben had agreed that was the right thing to do.
As the phone rang, Derek couldn't help but feel a knot of nervousness. When Lisa finally answered, he could sense a mix of surprise in her voice.
"Hey, Lisa. I just wanted to see how you're doing," Derek began, trying to keep the conversation light.
"I'm okay, Derek," Lisa replied, her tone guarded.
"How is business?" He inquired.
"Doing well, and yours?" She responds.
"Fine, making plans to expand". He tells her.
"That's good". Lisa says cheerfully. A brief silence ensued. "Is there something you want to tell me Derek?" She asks, breaking the silence.
