Chapter 10: Little Fox

The moon hung high in the sky, playing peekaboo with the slimming storm. The wind is still howling like a million wolves outside the window. The silence in the air is still hanging thicker than malicious, but it does not compare to the overwhelming feeling stirring in my stomach. As we drove further into the mountains, the trees grew denser. There was truly going to be no escape for me from this. The longer I stew with it though, how bad could being a queen to a nest of unforgiving vampires be? Just as bad as it sounds probably... Another fifteen minutes pass as thoughts of what my life will become flood my brain. I have so many questions, and this man is clearly not the one I'll get answers from. "We are here." His deep voice spoke, as if he had forgotten he tranced me. I was still hostile about that. "I see nothing but trees." I grumbled back at him. I wasn't in the mood to converse back and forth. "We haven't passed the barrier yet." His voice came out clipped and agitated. I just hummed in response and waited for this magical fortress to appear. Honestly, I don't know why I expected it to be some normal looking mansion, but the castle that stood before me dropped my jaw. The castle was old Victorian style, towers that touched the sky after coming to a point. The trees seemed to magically dissipate in a huge radius around it, smaller old-looking cobble houses lined the outskirts around the castle. "You're going to catch flies if you leave your mouth open," James laughed, and I shot him daggers through my eyes. His laugh only grew louder. "I know it's quite impressive, and don't let the old look fool you. I have completely modernized everything." His smile only made my eyes roll in annoyance. Of course, he would. A modern vampire, what a treat I was in for. The car roared its engine through the small, lightly glowing town. Laughter could be heard ringing loudly, even as the snow slowly fell, it did not affect them. Most were wearing normal clothes, completely comfortable in this bitter and nippy weather. My eyes stood glued on the cobble-moss-covered houses, they slid slowly back out of sight as we grew closer to the center of it all. The massive stone castle is surrounded by heavy iron gates. A trio of people waited at the door, as we made our way around the circular driveway. James stopped the car and looked at me for a brief moment before cutting off the engine and climbing out. I waited as he made his way around the front, pausing. He looked at the trio and said something that I could not make out, before coming and opening my passenger door. He held his hand out to me, but I refused it. Stepping out on my own, his hand dropped to his side as I watched his eyes flicker red for a moment. He grabbed my hand and placed it in the crook of his elbow, holding it there for a moment and looking at me hardly before turning. "This is your Queen." His voice spoke harshly to the trio that stood before us, two identical males, and a female with long red strawberry hair. The men wore nicely tailored suits, all black. The women wore a black corset top with red ribbon lacing the front, her breasts barely covered by the pressing fabric. She sported leather tights and bright red-heeled boots, making her six inches taller than she appeared to be. "Bow." His command came out forcefully, and even I wanted to listen. The men bowed immediately. "Our eternal queen, we both serve you humbly." The twins said together. Honestly, it was creepy how they moved exactly alike, even sounded the same. "Clara." The warning was clear in James' voice, he was threatening this beautiful women that stood before him. "It's o-" I went on to say, but was cut off with the harsh steel eyes meeting mine. "My queen." Clara gritted through her fangs that lengthened and eyes that flickered red with distain. She curtsied before swiftly turning as the click of her heels faded. "Sire, how was your trip?" One of the men asked James, as I stood quietly and awkwardly by his side. I have barely shown my face, and already a vampire wants to eat me... "It was fine," James' voice sounded worn and angry. "We prepared a meal for your queen, my lord. Will she eat in your chambers with you?" The same man asked for his directions. "That will do, Charles," James walked forward without even a “Thank You”. Looking back at the man as I was drug forward, I mouthed 'thank you', to which an amused smile lit his face. Without warning, I was thorn over James' shoulder, a gust of wind later and my stomach was upside down. He put me on my feet, I stumbled and held my stomach. "DUde!" I breathed through my nose deeply as I tried not to lose my chickens all over the polished black marble floor. "Give a girl some warning! I will just yak all over you next time." I looked him dead in the face, his amused smile waiting. Running my hand through my frizzy locks, I looked around the room. A beautiful bed was centered, massive and looked so soft. The colors were simple, shades of white and gray, not overwhelming but tasteful. A massive book corner held a lamp and a white couch. The gray-shagged rug matched the one under the massive four-post princess bed. Black curtains hung from the top of the bed, allowing the bed to be encased by its cocoon. "Is this your room?" I asked, it was something out of a dream. "No," he said shortly, "This will be your room for now. If there is anything you want added, I will have it picked up." His voice was softer than normal, "I am through that door though." His finger pointed towards a door to the side of the room that I hadn't seen. "This is mine?" I could hear my own shock in my voice. I walked forward to the bed and caressed my hand along the silky sheets and blankets. Poking at the fluffy pillow that fluffed right back out. "What? Have you ever had your own room or bed before?" His voice sounded sarcastic and rude. Turning, I faced him with my blood turning colder by the second. This man has had it too well. "Actually no, I haven't had my own room or bed in years.. I usually sleep on the couch.." The thought brought up one too many memories I wasn't fond of. "Are you serious?" His voice held concern as his feet moved towards me. "Like a heart attack.." I trailed off, his feet stopped just a few paces away. "Why?" His question confused me. "Why what?" I looked at him, his eyes softening as he looked at me. "Why didn't you have a bed, little fox?" I did not like that nickname. Choosing to ignore it, I gave him his answer. "Well, because the world isn't all sunshine and rainbows. Not everyone can get what they want when they want. My parents were druggies and abusive. They didn't care a single bit about me or what happened to me. So no, I didn't have my own room. I didn't get the privilege of a bed, or even a warm meal every night. They hated me, and I can even understand why they did." I could feel the tears that stung my eyes with the pain that emanated from my heart. "I see.." His voice was soft and thoughtful, he was quiet for a moment before taking another step forward. "I meant what I said, I will take care of you. Athena, I will give you everything in this world you could dream of. If you want a war, I'll wage it. If you want shelter, I will provide it for you. If you want revenge, I will get it for you. I will even help you make sure your father never sees the light of day." His dark smile had me worried. With all the sweet things he said, it also held tones of hatred. "So he is alive?.." My voice shook, I was still afraid of him, even knowing now there are many more dangerous things in this life. "He is." He smiled and reached forward to touch my cheek. Flinching, I backed away. "Don't worry, little fox. There is no sneaking your way out of this, and you know that." He retracted his hand as he spoke. Turning around, he walked away. The door shut, and I could hear the click of a lock behind it. I'm literally a princess locked away in a tower..
