Chapter one

Jessica.

My name is Amaris Taylor and i am a werewolf.

I live with my mum and dad in a beautiful 2 story, 4 bedroom house in north Carolina. Our home is not overly big but it's a lot bigger then most of the other pack members houses, my father Brian is beta to our alpha, Gavin Graymor. My mother Clara is one of the best trackers in our pack and a very valuable asset. We where located in a small town surrounded by forest, our house is on the same property as the pack house as my dad is the beta, my father had the option for us to live in the pack house in our own wing of the mansion but my father preferred for us to have our own home so we can live a normal family life. There are 3 other houses on the property for guests to stay. Our alpha and Luna have there own wing in the pack house. our delta and his mate and lead worrier also live there in separate parts of the mansion. There are also other pack members that live there to like my bother who moved there when he was 19 to reseve beta training. The rest of our pack lives in town, along side humans in harmony. Humans do not know about us and that’s the way we want to keep it. It is against the wolf law to ever reveal what we truly are to them, there are very few humans out there that know of our existence and they are sworn to secrecy.

My mother and father are true mates a gift to each other from the moon goddess herself. Every werewolf has a destined mate. One soul that is split into two, to come together as one, they say the love you have for your mate is grater then anything in the world, its an unbreakable bond. When your mate is close your wolf is able to sense them, there scent is meant to be stronger then anything and the most beautiful thing you would ever smell, bringing you together, your wolf will recognise them as "mate" then from there you will mark and eventually mate with one and other creating a forever bond, but there are wolfs that will reject there mates for either power as there mate is not strong or for other reasons. This is unnatural and goes agented everything in are being, but it does happen leaving us wondering the earth in search of someone else to feel the empty void in our hearts, most wolf’s become outcasts, rouges and even if you do find someone else, they are not our destined mate and there will always be apart of us missing, but honestly I don't want to find my mate, well not right away anyway, I want to live my life before being tied down to anyone, i don't get all these she-wolfs always going on about it, like get a grip girls! this is why men see us as weak thinking they need to protect us. well definitely not this she-wolf.

I woke up full of energy and excitement, today was my 18th birthday but not only that today was the day my wolf will immerge which is exciting right? but im full of dread as know I might find my mate which i really dont want yet.

Laying here in bed thinking about what today could bring, I decided to get up out of bed and have a shower, turning on the water and waiting for it to heat up, I looked in the mirror to see if I looked any older, my blue eyes looked brighter, my tanned skin seemed to glow and my body seemed more toned. All Indications that my wolf will immerge soon.

"I wonder what you will be like" I said to myself, thinking about my wolf.

Getting undressed, I got into the shower welcoming the hot steamy water, I let the water wash over me trying to relax about what the day might bring, grabbing my coconut shampoo I massaged it though my long wavy Red hair and then rinsed it out then I washed the rest of my body. Once I was clean and felt refreshed, I turned the water off, grabbed one towel and wrapped it around myself, then I grabbed another to wrap my hair in. Walking to my closest I looked though my clothes to find something to wear. Its spring so its not to hot and not to cold, my favourite time of year. I picked out some black jeans, a black and white tie-dyed tank top with my light grey denim jacket and I grab my black strappy sandals.

Once dressed I blow dried my hair and put some light make-up on that consisted of eye-liner, mascara and lip gloss. I never had the need for anymore, I have natural tan skin, rosey cheeks and plump pink lips. Being a werewolf has its perks.

I walked out of my bedroom and was hit with the smell of bacon and pancakes, my mum must be in the kitchen making breakfast, I quickly towel dried my hair letting it flow in natural waves over my shoulders.

Going down stairs I go into the kitchen seeing my mum flipping some pancakes in a pan. My mother is a beautiful woman she has long brown wavy hair, brown eyes and tanned skin, she tall and lean and walks with elegance.

"Good morning sweetheart" my mother says

"Good morning mum, something smells delicious like always"

"Maple bacon and pancakes, your favourite"

"Thank you! I'm starving"

"Only the best for my birthday girl"

"Where's dad this morning?"

"He had some business at the pack house with alpha Gavin early, but he should be back soon, he wouldn't miss breakfast with the birthday girl."

Just then my brother Connor walked in, he's 22 and yet to find his mate. He's tall with black stright floppy hair, he has brown eyes like our mum, he's tall and very muscular, the single she-wolfs are always all over him, he's a right player but he's very protective over me to the point its super annoying!!! He's also going to be the next beta of our pack. Once Alpha Gavin steps down so will my dad but Alpha Gavin hasn't got an heir as our Luna couldn't have pups so it all depends if someone comes to challenge him to a fight to the death, if they win they will become our alpha, that's even if that would ever happen, no one has came up agented alpha Gavin and lived to tell the tale.

"Happy birthday little sis, what are the big plans for the day?" My brother said whilst walking over to the table grabbing a plate and sitting down.

"No to much today, I'm going to go have lunch with Jason, Emma and Zane at the pack house then we are going to sit around the pool waiting for my wolf to come fourth" I said with a shrug.

"Don't stress yourself out waiting for her to come out, these things take time, Jenna (mums wolf) didn't come to me until 11:59 at night, she was a stubborn one" mum said walking over with a stack of pancakes, placing them on the table. She looks like she's now talking to her wolf.

"Yeah, not everyone can be as cool as me" my brother said with a wink. He got his wolf as soon as the clock turned 12am on his birthday.

Its nice to see him In a playful mood, usely when I mentioned Zane’s name he's gets all serious and protective, he has said to me multiple times that he doesn't trust him but I have grown up with Zane, I know he would never do anything to hurt me, he's one of my best friends.

"Ohh really, just wait until I get my wolf, I'll be running laps around you bro" I say playfully.

"I accept your challenge little sister" he says

"Now now pups none of that" my father says as he’s walking it to the kitchen, to all of our surprise, alpha Gavin is walking behind him.

We all bow our heads to show respect to our alpha and then I get up and wrap my arms around my dad and he hugs me tight "happy birthday princess”

“thanks papa” I say stepping away from him.

“Yes happy birthday Amaris, you have grown up so fast ”Alpha Gavin says in his booming voice.

“Thank you Alpha, its so kind of you” I say, I feel uneasy with the way Alpha Gavin was looking at me.

“so tell me, has your wolf appeared yet" he asks

“No sir, I’m still waiting”

“oh never mind I’m sure she will appear in due time, please let me know when she does, I would like to be able to see your first shift, I know it’s usely a family affair but I’m sure you’re parents wouldn’t mind and after all I have no pups of my own to be able to enjoy these proud moments with.”

“Of course sir, I would be honoured”

With that he turned and headed to the door. “well then I hope to here from you shortly then Amaris” He said before walking out.

Once Alpha Gavin was gone my dad passed me a little red box with a white bow.

"We was going to give it to you tonight but there's no better time then now" he said while walking over to my mum and wrapping his arms around her from behind and placing a kiss on top of her head, my mum looks up at him smiling.

I opened up the box to find a car key with a gold keyring of a wolf howling at the moon.

"No way" I say looking at my parents in disbelief.

"Only the best for our princess, its not everyday you turn 18" my father says, I rush up to them given them both a big hug and kissing them on the cheek, smiling ear to ear. "Well do you want to go see it?" My father says.

"Hell yeah I do!"

I followed my parents out side and they stood next to a brand new Honda Civic type R, the car that I have always wanted, it is a light grey with red rims. "I love it! Its the one that I have always wanted! Thank you so much, you guys are the best!" I said jumping up and down like a little girl but I don't care I’m so excited and so grateful to my parents. "Who wants to go for a quick ride to test this bad boy out?"

"I call shot gun" my brother said rushing around to the passenger side to get in.

"That's ok sweetheart me and your dad have a few things to arrange for tonights party but you go have fun with your brother and we will see you later.?" My mother says

"Ok i will see you later and thank you again, you are honestly the best parents a girl could ever ask for, I don't know what I would do without you both" I said walking up to them to give them a hug.

"You are more then welcome princess, now go and test your new wheels out, save me a ride" my dad says.

My parents go inside and i get in the car, putting my keys into the ignition and starting the car up I turn to my brother and say "so bro where do you want to go?"

"Anywhere you want to go, just don't kill us" he said playfully.

I rolled my eyes and pulled out of the driveway way. Me and my brother agreed we should go to the mall, he needed something to were for tonight and so did I. Tonight my parents are throwing me a party at the pack house and the hole pack will be there, apparently it was Alpha Gavins idea which I found a little wired as he never offers to throw a party for the other wolfs on there 18th birthday, or for any birthdays that I'm aware of but I put it down to my father being his beta and me being daddy's little girl.

The mall was 30 minutes away from our packs territory, my brother took charge of the radio and was flicking through the channels.

"Would you pick something already!" I said to him

"Well its not my fault the channels out here suck!" he says

After a moment he says, "I was thinking sis, maybe we should get your friends to meet us at the mall for lunch, I want to treat you, we can go to your favourite restaurant and I can then keep an eye on that Zane friend of yours."

"Sounds grate, but honestly Zane isn't a bad guy, i keep telling you this, i have known him since we where pups, he's one of my best friends" I say

"I know but I just don't trust him, he's to power hungry for my liking, I just don't want you to get hurt. You know I will always protect you right?"

"I know you will bro and that's one of the reasons that I love you, but I have no power in our pack so you have nothing to worry about."

"You are the daughter of the beta and sister to the future beta, you have more power then you think little sister, people can use you to get to us as they know we would do anything to protect you, leaving are defences down to attack our alpha and to claim our territory for there own." He says being all serious.

I didn't reply to him, I got lost in the what he just said, am I really that much of a risk to my family and pack, I would never do anything that would put my father and brother in any bad situation. I would trust Zane with my life if I needed to, I know he wouldn't do anything to hurt me he's my best friend. Zane get a bad wrap because of his parents, his father tried to overthrow the blue moon pack with his brother 15 years ago, his brother didn't make it and he and his mate where exiled and hunted by the blue moon pack until alpha Gavin agreed to take them in on the exception that they place there loyalty and live a quite life on the packs border, no other pack would dare to take traitors in but alpha Gavin’s hatred to towards Axel the alpha of the blue moon pack runs deep and he would do anything to p**s him off to be honest but not enough to start a war.

I pulled into the malls car park and got out my phone to message my friends to get there butts to the mall for lunch.

"You really need to upgrade your phone sis, that thing is from the dinosaur age" he said looking at my old nockia push button phone.

I rolled my eyes at him and ignored his comment, I like my nockia, its so simple to use, but he is right, it runs off the 3g network which is fazing out, its so hard to get a good signal now, I heard that they where now introducing a 5G network, not that I know much about networks or technology. Its not that I can't afford a new phone, I could actually go out and get the latest smartphone if I wanted but I'm saveing every dollor, before i take my place in the ranks of the pack i want to travel and visit other packs around the world and experiencethere culture.

Emma, messaged me back first and by no surprise was already at the mall so we meet her by the food court.

Emma turned 18 four weeks ago she has short shoulder length dark blonde hair, big round brown eyes, pink plump lips, a owl glass figure and she is wearing full make-up, her green and black smoked eyeshadow complemented her emerald green tank top and black leggings, she was also wearing knee high platform boots that looks like they have about 50 laces on each boot.

"Hey girl ready to do some hard core shopping!" she says existed, she's always up for shopping, I sware this girl is a shopaholic, she's always here at the mall lately, i also think its because she thinks she might find her mate as the mall is always packed but what she doesn't realise is not many werewolf from other packs venture here, you get the odd one here and there but they are usely just passing though, most wolfs keep close to there own pack territory unless they are high in authority and have to travel for pack business.

"When don’t you shop? I only need to find a nice dress to were tonight, I don't need a hole new wardrobe every time I shop like someone I know" I say jokingly to her.

"A girl needs options you know" she says smiling with a shrug while putting he hands up.

"Okay lady's, well I'm going to leave you to it, I need to get a few things myself, we'll meet back here at 12 and then go get some lunch?" My brother says

"Sounds good bro!" I say

"Also let me know when Zane and Jason get here" he says looking directly at me. I roll my eyes.

"See you soon lady’s"

"You most certainly will" Emma says flirting as he was walking away, she has had the biggest crush on my brother since we where kids. "Damm he gets hotter and hotter every time I see him, the things I would do to that man!"

"Eeww you do realise that's my brother your talking about and don't forget you have a mate out there waiting for you" I say

"Ohh lighten up, I'll wait for my mate but I can't help that your brother is a walking s*x god who wouldn't want a peace of that fine..." I cut her before she can finish that sentence.

"Ok ok, your practically drawling, I don't want to hear this, let's go do some shopping to get your head out of the gutter." I say laughing at her.

Emma made me try on about 30 different dresses before finding the right one but she did insist on me buying at least 5 of them "its your birthday you should treat yourself" she kept telling me, if she had it her way i would be leaving the shop with all of them, I also brought 3 pairs of shoes to match the dresses and Emma insisted on buying me a pair of stunning stiletto heels as a birthday gift, they are silver with five thin straps that go across the top of my toes and feet and down on a slight angle and slim buckle that goes around my ankle. They will match perfectly with my dress tonight.

It was 11:45 and Emma was sill shopping away like her life depended on it, Jason sent me a message 10 minutes ago telling me they where on there way now, so I had to practically drag Emma away from the shops, but once she realised we where going to meet conner at the food court she stopped complaining.

Back at the food court Conner was waiting at a table for us, he had more shopping bags then I did.

"You shop like Emma" I said laughing at him.

"Ohh really, so you don't want your birthday presents then" he lifted 2 bags up and wiggled them in fount of me.

"You shouldn't have got me anything, your already treating me to lunch, that is enough for me" I say

"What type of big brother would I be if I didn't spoil my little sister on her birthday and besides after what you got me for my last birthday you can't really say much about me spoiling you."

On my brothers 22nd birthday I got him tickets to a concert of his favourite band, Twenty one pilots, he was dying to see them but before he could get ticket they sold out and he was pretty disappointed but little did he know at the time that I got the last two V.I.P tickets which where front row seats and back stage passes and I also got him the newest pair of Nike Jordan's that he had his eye on.

"If you don't take them i will" Emma says egger to see what's in the bags. I laughed at her.

Taking the bags i open one up to find the latest iPhone in pink, there was also a hard pink phone case to go with it and a pop grip that is the colours of the galaxy to go on the back.

"You don't have to worry about the contract is all taking care off and it has your same number its also all set up ready to go for you." Connor informs me.

"Thank you so much, I love it but you really shouldn't have, I was fine with my old phone. You know your totally going to have to show me how to use this" I said and he chuckled at me.

"I'm sure Emma will be all over it for you" he said laughing while looking at Emma already getting it out of the box for me. "Open the other bag"

I do as he says and I find a box that says iPod with a case to match. I open the box and pull it out , its red and on the back it has an engraving saying:

"happy 18th birthday little sister,

I love you to the moon and back"

Reading the engraving, it made me swell up in happiness, I feel like the most blessed and loved person in the world. I am so lucky to have my amazing parents and the best big brother anyone could ask for and I can't forget my friends, they are simply awesome, I don't know what I would do without them.

I got up and wrapped my arms around Connor. "I love you bro and thank you for everything" I say

"You are more then welcome little sis, besides now you can play good music in your car and not have to listen to that rubbish on the radio. Do you want me to put some music on there for the ride home later?" He says

"Yes please that would be amazing, can you show me how to do it?"

"Of course I can" Connor said.

While waiting for Jason and Zane to show up, Connor showed me how to download music on the iPod and after Emma showed me how to use my new phone, it was actually more simpler then i thought it would be and i can do a lot more with it then I could do with my old Nokia and the camera is amazing i couldn't stop talking about what things I could do with it, I took so many selfies with Emma and Connor, we where having so much fun, Conner and Emma sat there mocking me about how stuck in the past I was, we were laughing and joking around when Jason and Zane walked up to us.

"Sup guys, happy birthday Ammi! what are we up to?” Jason said coming around the table to sit down next to me.

"Em and Conner where just taking the p**s out of me about my old Nokia and how apparently i was stuck in the past, they where just showing me how to use my new phone that Conner got me for my birthday" I say

"Well to be fair, you where the only person I know that still has a push button phone, not even my grandparents have one. That thing belongs in a museum" Jason says.

“Ok ok I get it” I say back putting my hands up in defeat.

I met Jason in training when we where 13. Wolfs start training to fight at the early age of 12 to keep the pack strong, by age 20 we are tested if we choose to become worriers, trackers or healers we are tested on our strength, speed, hunting skills and fighting skills, the wolf’s that pass the test then go onto specialised training. I want to train to become a worrier, there are not many she-wolf worriers in our pack for most become trackers, other she-wolfs think I’m crazy but I am a daughter of a beta and I want to protect my people, even without my wolf I am the strongest she-wolf in our group and the fastest, i even put some of the males to shame, Jason being one of them but he never takes it to heart like the others, he’s always laughed it off. He’s very sweet and kind and is always there for me if I need anything, we are very close, Emma thinks he has feelings for me but he’s never acted on it and even if he did I see him more as a brother, I mean he’s handsome, he has dark brown short hair, green eyes, nude skin and he has dimples when he smiles, he is tall but not as tall as most wolfs and he is wearing light grey jeans with a green hoodie that complements his eyes and black high-top runners.

“So where are we going birthday girl?” Zane says

“I was thinking that little Italian restaurant Stephan’s on the high street, there pasta is to die for" I said.

Suddenly I had this uneasy feeling that someone was watching us and I started to look around. Zane was talking to me but I couldn’t register what he was saying then Connor stepped in fount of me putting his hand on my shoulder pulling me out of frantically looking around.

“what’s wrong?” He said in a serious voice.

“Ohh nothing I just had this strange feeling like someone was watching us it was wired but I sware I could feel eyes on us"

“Can you see them?“ he said on high alert. Everyone was now looking around.

“No but it was a pretty intense feeling, I don’t know maybe its just a wired sign that my wolf is immerging” everyone just stared at me for a second

“Maybe” Conner said sounding uneasy

“let’s just go to the restaurant” Emma said

The restaurant was a short walk from the mall and we all walked in silence, I still couldn’t shake that feeling but I walked with my head to the front of me trying not to look back, I don’t want to freak them out anymore then I have. Conner kept looking at me and then around him, he had a serious look on his face like he was ready to fight whoever dares to challenge him, Zane was also mirroring Conner expression, they where in serious protective mode.

“Guys seriously it was nothing, relax” I said as we entered the restaurant

When we sat down the tension settled down and we all starting joking around and having a good time, me and Emma ordered 3 different pastas to share and garlic bread while the boys ordered 2 extra large family pizzas between them. What can I say? Werewolf’s eat a lot, we burn a lot of calories with training. We where eating and talking and all of a sudden got a horrible pain in my head and then I hear it, a voice in my head, but not just any voice, my wolfs voice.

“Hello Amaris my name is Mona, i am your wolf, I have waited so long to be able to talk to you, I apologise for my late arrival, it has been hard to brake though your barrier hence the pain you just experienced, but don’t threat I am here now”

“Omg! It’s really you! its grate to meet you! I’m so happy you are finely here, don’t sweat about the headache its passed now and besides its totally worth it the pain"

I Catch my friends and brother looking at me as I have stopped engaging with them.

“Do not tell anyone that I am now with you for now, it is of grave importance that you keep it to yourself you need to trust me. We will talk later after our shift” my wolf said.

“Everything ok?” Jason said.

“Yeah all good Jace I was just day dreaming, you know what I’m like, my heads always far away from me" I fake laughed but Emma was looking at me with knowing eyes, she can always tell when I’m lying. “Shit..." I thought to myself.

“You really need to learn to lie better" Nova said with a scoff.

I ignored her and carried on acting like nothing happened. Throughout the rest of lunch we carried on talking and joking around Emma’s attempts to get me to go to the restroom with her to integrate me to find out why I lied failed. I think she knows I just got my wolf but doesn’t understand why I lied. I hate lying to people, I guess that’s why I’m so bad at it. I don’t understand why I can’t just tell them, its meant to be something to celebrate, but i need to trust her. she is a part of me now after all.
