Chapter 4: Meeting the Aunt

519 Words
--- The city buzzed quietly under the soft glow of early afternoon sunlight. Teresa stood nervously outside the small café, clutching the worn letter her mother had sent years ago. It was the only connection she had left to the woman who had vanished from her life too soon — her mother’s sister, her aunt. Her heart pounded as she pushed open the door, the scent of fresh coffee and baked bread wrapping around her like a comforting blanket. She scanned the room, eyes searching for a face she had never seen but somehow felt she already knew. And then, she saw her. A woman sat by the window, her silver-streaked hair pulled back into a loose bun, eyes warm and kind beneath gentle wrinkles. The woman smiled as if she had been waiting her entire life for this moment. “Teresa?” The voice was soft, but firm. “Yes,” Teresa whispered, stepping forward. Her aunt stood and embraced her with surprising strength, pulling her into a hug that melted years of loneliness and pain. “You’ve grown into a beautiful woman,” she said, voice trembling with emotion. Teresa blinked back tears, feeling a strange mix of relief and apprehension. “I didn’t know you were here,” she murmured. “I stayed away for your protection,” her aunt explained. “After your mother died, things in the clan became complicated… dangerous.” Teresa nodded, remembering the shadows that clung to her past like chains. “I wanted to find you sooner, but it wasn’t safe. Now that you’re here, you can learn more about who you really are.” Her aunt’s words stirred something inside Teresa—a yearning for answers, for a place to belong beyond the city streets and the memories that haunted her. “Can you tell me about Mom?” Teresa asked quietly. Her aunt’s eyes darkened, a flicker of pain crossing her face. “She was the moon lady, the heart of your clan. Strong and wise, but her death left a wound that never healed. You have her blood, Teresa. That’s why your dreams… they’re calling you.” Teresa swallowed hard, the weight of the truth settling deep within her. “I’ve been dreaming about a man… an alpha. But I don’t know who he is.” Her aunt smiled knowingly. “You will. Soon.” As they talked, Teresa felt the threads of her past begin to weave into a new tapestry—one filled with secrets, power, and the promise of a destiny she had yet to understand. Outside, the sun dipped lower, casting long shadows over the city. Inside the café, a seed of hope was planted—one that would grow and change everything. Teresa sat quietly, her mind racing with questions as her aunt’s words sank in. The stories about her mother, the pack, and the dangers lurking beyond the human world felt both distant and painfully close. Despite the fear, a small spark of hope flickered inside her — maybe this meeting was the first step toward reclaiming her true identity. ---
