Love or Friendship

Romela and Wendell became closer. They always work together on their assignments. Romela is good at English and Science, Wendell is good at Math and History. Wendell thought about telling his best friend James that he was going to court Romela. James was not surprised because he always saw his best friend happy when he was with Romela. The problem is that he also has secret feelings towards Romela. "Brothers, I have something to tell you," Wendell began talking while they were eating in the cafeteria with his male friends. "I want to court Romela, do you think she likes me too?" he added. "Why don't you ask Romela? she is the one who can answer your question!” answered by one of his friends. James didn't seem to like their conversation with his friends, so he said goodbye and was going back to their classroom.

As James walked back to their classroom, he saw Romela sitting on the bench of the gymnasium without anyone. It entered his mind to approach her but he remembered his best friend, Wendell. “ James!, a woman shouted. James turned and saw his girlfriend, Ivory. " Where are you going? Why do you seem to be avoiding me?" Ivory said. "No, I'm just thinking about something", James answered. "When are you going to take me home again? So when are we going to date again?" his girlfriend grumbled. "Come on, it's time for our next subject", James avoided. While they were walking away from the gymnasium, James glanced at Romela again. He thought that his feelings about her were not right and he needed to forget it.

As time went on, Wendell's feelings for Romela deepened until one day he confessed his feelings to Romela. " Romela, can I ask you something serious?" Wendell asked. Romela first smiled and said "Okay, wait, make sure it is not silly again!"." I'm serious this time, I'm serious about you Romela... can I date you?" Wendell confessed. For a long time, Romela felt that there was something special about what Wendell was doing for her. Bea often teases her that Wendell might start courting her, but she doesn't think much about it because she's happy with their friendship. "You know.. I haven't had a boyfriend yet, and I want my boyfriend to be a long-term one," replied Romela. "I love you, I'll try to be a good boyfriend to you if you let me" said Wendell. "Can I think about it first?" answered Romela." Sure, no pressure, I'll wait for your answer" Wendell said with a smile. The truth is, Romela does not understand herself. After all, Wendell is OK, handsome, smart and kind. But Romela seemed to be looking for something to someone.

Ever since Wendell confessed to Romela, he had always made the girl feel that she was special. But unexpectedly, Wendell got hospitalized because of dengue and was unable to attend school for a long time. Romela was left alone because Bea suddenly moved to a different school and they also had to move to a house near to her father's new job . Romela and James teamed up on a project. They are always together researching and collecting data for their project. Romela's group decided to build their materials for visualization in the park. According to the leader of their group, they will finish sooner if they make partners in making materials. They became partners with Romela because they were both good at art. “How can we start this? James asked Romela with a smile. "You.. what do you think we should prioritize?" Romela asked sarcastically. When she and James became a group, he tried to avoid him because she didn't want James' girlfriend, Ivory, to see them. Because she already knows the behavior of that woman when it comes to her boyfriend, she is too jealous.

While Romela and James were working on a project, James looked at the girl's serious face. "She is really beautiful, Wendell will be lucky when she accepts him as her boyfriend", James whispered to himself. "Do you know when Wendell will be back?" Romela suddenly asked James. "I don't know yet, he hasn't updated me yet, wait, isn't he courting with you? Isn't he calling you?" James asked with jealousy." "He hasn't courting me yet, I haven't let him court yet," Romela answered. "Huh? dont tell me you don't like him?" he nervously asked Romela. "I do, I like him as a friend but if you ask me if there is more than that, I cant answer your question now" Romela answered seriously. That's when the conversation between James and Romela started. They exchanged questions about each other.

"You have paint on your face, Romela, on the side of your cheek," James said when he suddenly looked at her. " Where? Wait, I can't wipe it, my hands have paint too" Romela said worriedly. "Is it okay if I wipe it for you? James asked him. Romela couldn't do anything but to agree. When James wiped her face with his handkerchief, something came to James' mind. James suddenly put a different color of paint on Romela's other side of cheek. "There, to make it even, there is paint on both of your cheeks!" James said, laughing "Ahhh! if that is what you want!, come here!" Romela said, laughing. He chased after James and they took turns putting paint on each other's faces. Romela didn't notice a protruding rock and tripped over it. James immediately pulled her but it was too late. Because of the strength of his pulling towards Romela, he lay down on the grass and he also pulled Romela to his body. This caused the unexpected to happen. Their lips met. They kissed.

It took a few seconds for them to realize what had happened. Romela came to her senses and suddenly stood up and walked away from James. " Romela, I'm sorry I didn't mean it, I just wanted to help you" explained James. "I know, no one likes what happened" replied Romela". " Me, I like what happened" James whispered to himself.
