“What is this? I swear I’ve tasted something so good!” Dylan mumbled out while stuffing his face. I couldn’t help but laugh at the sight. “It’s called a dump cake, it is like the easiest cobbler ever. You’ve never had one?” I could see a slight trace of sadness dance across his eyes before he spoke again.  “My mom was never the ‘bake cookies for Santa’ type. She was an amazing mother and the best I could have asked for growing up but when I had a bake sale at school freshman year, Lilly and I stayed up all night making pies that everyone bought out of pity because they were so bad.” He laughed at the memory and hearing him talk about his mom was bittersweet. He never talked about his relationship with his parents, never talked about them leaving so to hear him open up about them to me
