I heard nothing more than a painful ringing in my ears as I warped home and laid in bed, not bothering to change out of my salt-water drenched clothes. My goal wasn’t to ignore my mate as he spoke to me but I heard nothing more than a sharp continuous bell as I stared blankly into his face, watching his lips move gently without sound. I wanted to sleep so I let him change my clothes and the sheets into something dryer but I still didn’t make a noise. I was afraid if I did, the ringing would get worse.     Although I wanted to sleep, I wasn’t that lucky.
