GODRIC could not move when Boris lunged at the guest sitting nearest him and the rest of the people at the dining table jumped up from their seats and rushed for the door, panicking, screaming for help. But the doors to the dining hall appeared to have been locked because none of the guests were able to leave the room. Their parents were on the floor, hugging each other in terror as they watched their firstborn son tear the neck of the mayor’s daughter and bathe in her blood. Boris captured the rest of the guests and killed them in the same fashion. Blood soaked the expensive carpet of the dining hall’s floor, spatters reached the wall, windows, and ceilings. Even the huge chandelier in the middle of the room was now dripping in crimson liquid. Arms and chest bloodied, Boris paused to look at his parents who were still in the same spot. They were terrified as Boris walked over to them, begging him to not kill them. “Did you like it, mother and father? Your son just did something extraordinary again. I will be the first vampire in Clairhill.” Boris brought his hands to his mouth and hungrily licked the blood dripping off his hands. “I can turn you into someone like me, too, and we can be a powerful family that will live forever!” Benedict Octavius disgustingly looked at his son. “I don’t have a son like you! My son is not a beast!” “Father, you might want to think carefully before answering. It doesn’t look great but it feels so.” “I should never have allowed you to return if I had known that you turned into a monster! You are not my son anymore! You are not my son!” It was his father’s last words before Boris sauntered forward and attacked the people that brought them to life and nurtured them. Godric just sat there as the whole c*****e unfolds, unable to move, talk, or even think. His irises are shaking and his eyes are growing wider each time Boris would turn to another person in the room. And when he finally murdered their parents, Godric could not help the nausea that was growing in his gut and pushing out of his throat. He bent over to the blood-soaked floor and vomited. Seeing the mangled corpses of the beautifully dressed guests of the banquet, his stomach turned upside down even more. When nothing was coming out of this throat anymore, he started wailing painfully, finally comprehending the terror that he just witnessed. “Godric,” his brother softly called. He looked up and stood from his chair. He almost stumbled backward when he accidentally stepped on an arm on the floor. “Why, Boris? Why did you kill them? Why did you kill our parents?” His voice filled with anger, sadness, and fear. “They said they don’t want to be a monster like me. They’re wrong. I’m not a beast. I’m not a monster. I’m a powerful vampire. I’m an immortal blood being. And they are stupid for turning down an opportunity to be like me.” Godric opened his mouth but nothing was coming out of it. Blood being? Is he talking about that thing he once told him about when he was fifteen? “You’ve lost your mind, Boris! You killed these people! You killed our parents! All to prove a fact that the thing you are insanely fascinated about is true?” “It is true. I am one of them.” “You’ve gone mad! Don’t tell me that it’s the reason you moved to Europe?” Boris smiled. “I told you in my letters that I met a woman during my first year in Europe, right? She’s the one who turned me into a vampire, Godric.” “No! She turned you into a freaking lunatic! You are a criminal, Boris! You’re a murderer!” Boris disappeared from the spot where the remains of their parents lay and was instantly in front of him, choking his neck, and holding his entire weight up against the closed door. Godric’s eyes grew wide as he stared at his brother’s blood-stained face. “Amazed, brother? This is the tremendous power I was telling you about. Are you going to be like our stupid parents and refuse this?” “Boris, don’t do this!” He said, trying to breathe. “Didn’t you tell me that living like this isn’t a bad way to live at all?” “Boris, no!” Godric felt his brother’s hands through his gut. He gasped, coughing up blood. Until slowly his consciousness completely abandoned him. “I’M sorry, Godric,” Selene said honestly, holding his hands, looking genuinely concerned. “I didn’t know that’s what happened.” “It was a long time ago.” Godric looked at the lake where a couple of children were playing and dipping their feet in the water. “After my Change, it was very hard to control myself from wanting to feed off of humans. I kept telling myself, if I tried so hard, I may not need to be like Boris, I wouldn’t need to kill anyone. But normal human food is repulsive to vampire’s appetites. And the longer I put off hunting, the hungrier I became. After my first kill, I met Roald Hosmurg, he’s the one who trained me after my Change. I learned how to control my urges thanks to him. “But I was still mad at Boris, so I decided to be reckless. I want to upset him, to make him mad. But he’s suddenly been elected as a member of the vampire council. It’s a legislature for us blood beings. And now he’s trying to impose his supposed power against me again by threatening to make me cease to exist if I start killing recklessly again.” “Can he do that? You’re an immortal, right?” “He can,” he simply said, looking at her. “Now, don’t get me wrong Selene. I’m not saying this to tug on your heartstrings or whatever. I just want to be completely honest with you like you wanted me to” “And I appreciate it. Truly.” “I hope you still think about the job I’m offering though. It still stands. I want a way to be able to protect you, my spellblood.” Selene smiled. She appreciates the fact that she still has a choice. Now that she knows about his secret, she was expecting that he’d be more imposing. She nodded. “Thank you, Godric.”
